Will the Rangers release a statement on this play??? Rangers looked like a bunch of total clowns out there.

That is just total disregard for another player's safety. Buchnevich could have done some serious damage to Mantha's eye with a crosscheck like that one.

No respect for the game, or another man's livelihood.

Rangers fined 250K for comments about Parros

WATCH: New York Rangers and Washington Capitals begin game with line brawl after Tom Wilson incident

"Public comments of the nature issued by the Rangers that were personal in nature and demeaning of a League executive will not be tolerated," said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. "While we don't expect our Clubs to agree with every decision rendered by the Department of Player Safety, the extent to which the Rangers expressed their disagreement was unacceptable.
"It is terribly unfair to question George Parros' professionalism and dedication to his role and the Department of Player Safety."

Hmmmm....

Gotta say, there's no crosscheck there. He just punched him in the face with the hand holding the stick. Not a manly thing to do, but I find this all to be terribly overblown.

Looked like a stick to the face to me in the video, but if you think it was just the glove holding the stick which made contact it wouldn't be as serious.

I don't want Kuznetsov on the Kings. there's a good chance his recreational pharmaceutical use is causing him to burn out earlier. his scoring is trending in the wrong direction.

Stoll even stated his [stoll's] use probably caused his play to deteriorate enough to end his career a couple seasons earlier than it should have.

I’m sure but I wouldn’t want him in LA.

Yeah, we don't do so well with the substance abusers and on top of that, we have awful luck with Russians.

i'm relatively indifferent about it but the screenshots i've seen do make it look like he only had one hand on the stick

lucic got a game for punching connauton right? seems fair

This is more like the one that Lucic got two games for...last season maybe?

I thought it was a stick to the face when watching live. Regardless, his actions that entire game were pathetic.

My (possibly) final stance on the Wilson/NYR thing. Hell, who am I kidding. More BS will happen again.

If you have a department focused on the safety of players, and you dole out suspensions for dirty play, you cannot expect teams to police each other.

If you want to remove the instigator penalty, allow teams to police each other, and have the DOPS focus on a narrow scope (illegal checks, headhunting like Bertuzzi/Moore, etc) I am completely fine with it.

But the league created Tom Wilson and effectively neutered other teams who have veered away from dangerous players, because the league set the expectation they would handle it.

They have not.

So whether you want more fighting/team policing OR you want DOPS to be more strict on ALL dirty play, the point is this middling around and inconsistency is not cutting it.

People get hung up on the name of the department, but their only real function is applying supplemental punishments for players that have violated rules at an egregious level. Hockey is an inherently dangerous sport. I've never really understood calling it Player Safety. I guess it sounds nicer or more noble.

pens up 2-1 in the 1st , Carter has both goals. 6 goals as a Pen, 5 have been 5 x 5. He's really been good in all areas, esp. faceoffs. That's the kind of strength down the middle you need in a playoff run.

We need a new system and a coach that gets more out of their players. It’s unacceptable that everyone who leaves thrives offensively.
