If we stayed out of the top 3 I was all about Drysdale, I remember getting hammered for having him so high above Sanderson but the dude just oozes Doughty/Makar. I don't want to be right about that if he's a Duck

I thought the consensus was that Drysdale was rated higher than Sanderson. I remember the Sens getting a bit of blowback for taking Sanderson instead. Sanderson was one of those late risers if I remember correctly.

Late riser, I had him at 10ish, but so many had moved him to him top-5 and Drysdale back end of the top-10, which is were I disagreed

Still think Sanderson provides a powerful, steadying element but Drysdale is just too dynamic for Sanderson to touch

Yeah, I was a fan of Drysdale as well, but Sanderson has had a good D+1 season so far so we will see how it shakes out. That is going to be another huge debate for a long time.

I think some people also worried Drysdale/Sanderson were being rated too high because it was a weak year for defensemen at the top of the draft whereas the 1st line potential forwards ran deep.

this is a good point.

It's one game, an impressive game sure, but I look at it like Bjornfot's first couple of games in LA. I know I over hyped him immediately.

It's early for sure. He did well in the AHL tho too. His skating is what makes him most effective.

Saw that Pearson will be out past the TDL (LBI). He has a whole 11 points in 33 games this year. Looks like last year’s 21 goals/45 points in 69 games was an aberration. Not a good performance for his final year on this contract.

Starting to see the Laine/Kings rumors start up again. It looks like he is a disaster in Columbus and the chances of his signing there seem to be evaporating more each day. Pierre-Luc Dubois has been a complete nothing for Winnipeg though as well so it's a trade of malcontents.

It's hard to wrap your head around this because Laine is just a diva to the max. He represents everything bad about the prima donna label some guys get in the league. That said, the guy is ultra-talented and an elite scorer who is only 22 so he has room for growth mentally. Columbus isn't going to get some massive return for the guy because he is unsigned and everyone knows it isn't working there. It's also no secret that he wants to play for the Kings.

Would you do this trade if they could get it done without moving Turcotte, Byfield or the 1st rounder? The Kings would have all the leverage and if this guy is happy here, he is a star in terms of goal scoring talent.

Maybe we can send back Jeff Carter for him. To be honest, I'm not moving shit for Laine, we've got our own Laine and he's leading the Reign in scoring... except he doesn't come with the emotional baggage. Kings are finally back into the "working hard for the team" headspace and things like "character" are at the forefront of the team. If we're trading scraps for Laine, maybe it's worth it, but I'm not moving a significant piece for him.

Where are you seeing these rumors?

Would be great to get another stud Blue Jacket and win the cup

The Laine likes the kings rumors have been around a while. I remember reading about it last season during the pause. I made a few posts about it here when it was brought up.

I would not do it. He's talented sure. But he's a head case and a bad influence in the locker room. By all accounts he demands linemates and playing time when it's not earned. That will not go well with creating the culture the Kings want, especially with as many young players as the kings have.

Laine's salary demands will also be through the roof. He's streaky and doesn't put the effort on defense when he's not scoring.

Short answer: No.
Long answer: Hell no.

I know they're different situations, but we went through this with Kovalchuk and it led to arguably the two darkest years in Kings history.

I wouldn't say they were the darkest years in history. They were dark years though.

I've been watching the Kings since the late 90's, and the Kovalchuk era is probably the worst hockey I've seen them play. Especially that Desjardins + Kovalchuk combo.

Finishing tied for last in 2008 was way more fun than 2019 and 2020 because you at least had a young Kopitar and then Brown hitting everything in sight. There was pretty much no reason to tune in the last couple of seasons.

All right, I can concede to that line of thought.
