Just looking at the organization culture now, it appears Luc promised ownership that the Kings culture would be more player friendly

Welcome to sports in 2019.

playing style will be less heavy

Longevity.

more speed

We complained about the lack of it for years.

less focus on offseason training etc.

DL looked into the soul of Richards while training in the summer, so. IK has been nothing but a summer workout guy. I guess Kopitar hangs out in Slovenia for a while now.

Dean deserved to get fired because of his mistakes and unwillingness to make necessary changes. It’s truly unfortunate because he was the best GM this franchise has ever had. But it is just proof that to continue to be successful in today’s NHL, you must be willing to adapt in some meaningful way to the modern game. Maybe that is coaching or players or the type of development resources you invest in.

The issue I have with the firing was the replacement process. Which I can’t recall the details of, because there wasn’t one. Who was interviewed before the keys to the executive washroom were given to Luc? The problem with the Kings is that for some reason, ownership has put that chinless yes man Beckerman in charge and all this garbage has happened on his watch.

Lieweke was no saint, but he had the guts to can a GM with his number retired and hire the right guy at the right time and live up to his word to spend to the cap when it was time. And god bless uncle Phil for giving this franchise the resources to run as a first class nhl operation.

But maybe what the franchise needs is new ownership. I wonder if Steve Ballmer is a hockey fan?

I'm hoping you're not referring to me as a young one for I'm very much aware of EK's career. I was being sarcastic and implying everything you just said.
Not referring to anyone in particular, but rather the mindless chatter around the league when he was at his peak. You would have thought there wasn’t an Orr or a Coffey around before.
Btw, I did get your sarcasm. :thumbu:

Beckerman is no saint, but he had the guts to fire a GM who had just brought the franchise 2 cups. We don't know if he hired the right guy in Blake yet, but we should wait before saying he wasn't the right call.

You seriously want new ownership because they hired Blake? The Kings have had some horrible f***ing owners throughout the years and now that we have stability you want to throw that away because you don't like who was hired as GM?

I didn’t like Dave Taylor either.

No thoughts on the lack of a search to replacing DL? Or do you just wear purple tinted glasses?

Blake was the AGM at the time and I think the organization didn't want a complete overhaul, but there clearly needed to be a change. From Sutter being re-signed to going into the 2016 draft with 1 pick in the top 100(number 51), Deano was wildly swinging and taking the team down. However, he had built a strong management team before getting too emotional and I think Beckerman recognized that. Hiring the AGM was an easy transition that allowed the organisation to keep guys like Solomon, Futa, and Yanetti in place, Blake also had intimate knowledge of the players/assets within the organisation. If you believe in many aspects of the management team, but question leaderships recent decisions moving on to the second in command is the proper direction.

Holy shit did anyone notice the Cryotes just quietly slid into 1st place in the Pacific?

SJ
Ducks
Kings

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Phoenix is also in the running for Taylor Hall, or so is rumored.

Calgary is right there too, but they're 8-1-1 in their last 10. Phoenix has remained basically just over .500 consistently. Vegas keeps swinging up and down. Edmonton is going into a slump.

I'd rather see Hall go to Fla or Ari than Col or StL or whatever. Not that I like the Coyotes, but they're always fighting that uphill battle just to exist.

Per LeBrun., Panthers were interested and had pieces in place but
Shero won't give teams permission to speak to Hall's agent so that has changed the landscape. Most likely that is what happened between Avs being the frontrunner Friday and Hall being pulled from the game and then it fell thru.

Rumored that is because Hall has maintained he won't sign a contract in season.

So Devils who wanted him moved before the holiday trade freeze, might have to settle for the best rental deal or wait until Feb when a team might overpay and hope he doesn't get hurt .

Hall to Arizona for 2020 1st, conditional* 2021 pick, Kevin Bahl, Nick Merkley, Nate Schnarr. Personally underwhelmed albeit I haven't see much of Bahl; Devils have a couple other prospects on Bahl's club. I like to give my buddy grief for stat watching when he said that he didn't see a difference between Merkley and Matt Barzal leading up to the 2015 Draft.

*Pick is a 1st rounder if Arizona re-signs Hall (unlikely) AND wins a playoff round
*Pick is a 2nd rounder if Arizona re-signs Hall OR wins a playoff round
*Otherwise is a 3rd rounder

Love that move by Arizona....if they feel they are in a good spot for a run....it's solid, don't give up anything big, it will be a late first...but more than that...it tells their players/staff/fans, that they aren't afraid to make a move to support the team.....

so most likely picks are 2021 3rd and 2020 1st. I think this makes sense for both clubs.

I was hoping the flames would put together something similar.

In a weird way, at least I have the Hall trade to point to towards the recurring "We should have traded Parise in 2012" posts on the Devils board. Some fans were incredulous that the Devils would have gotten an amazing package of picks/prospects for Parise as a rental.

It's the same as Kopitar and Doughty. The Devils had 102 points in 11-12. Just 2 points from being 5th overall. Teams don't throw seasons away like that, no matter how much better a potential future could be. It's a nice thought, and logically it makes sense, but even 2 games of playoff revenue is a real thing. The Devils would've had to trade him in 2011, but he was hurt, so they couldn't. So really you have to trade him in 2010, but he was 25 with 38 goals and 82 points, and why would you trade a guy that young and productive, for a team that finished tied for 5th overall? Well you wouldn't, but that's when you should. Have to sell high, maybe a year too early, rather than risk an injury, or a good season by the team before the big payday coming up.

It takes unpredictably good timing to win. Without knowing for sure what will work. Penner and Gagne weren't supposed to not score in 11-12.

Yeah people want to build an 'every year contender' but look how hard it is just to get back to 100 points.

When you're in the middle of that fray, you're looking for a move or two to put you over the top, not to your now-25th-position-and-later draft picks to be the difference maker that takes you to another level. That kind of thinking almost ensures you're a never-was instead of a has-been, getting made fun of for being a perennial choker instead of made fun of for winning but LOL now look at you.

Well Hall in Glendale will make it more interesting for Coyotes fans. They may actually win the Pathetic Division.
