Would have loved them to name the team the Metropolitans, but since that’s a division name - doubt the league would have approved it. Kraken sounds good now, might get old over time, but I guess we’ll see how that goes.

They were going to, but Bettman nixed it. Ugh. I'm really disappointed that Seattle hockey fans are going to have to go cheer for a team that looks and sounds like a minor league club. The only silver lining is that I guess it means I get to go see the Kings 2-3 times a year live.

We always have to remember that the goal of these expansion teams are generally to drum up interest from people that might not know anything about hockey. Kraken is so ridiculous but it gets people talking. The whole "Release the Kraken" but will go over extremely well in the arena. I can see them doing it on the video board every time they go on a power play.

I think they did a good job of honoring the past by using the "S" while embracing the present and the future: they are more interested with the latter than the former when it comes to marketing etc.

As for those saying they look like a minor league team, take a look at the city's NFL team: they will fit right in.

I was hoping for "Bitch Pigeons" myself, but Kraken is fine.

So are the Krakheads going to be tossing squids onto the ice when the Kraken score? And will they sweep the Kings in the first round when they make the playoffs for the first time?

I say vice versa.

The problem is that they can no longer wear the gold uniforms since every team is now required to wear a colored set at home and a white set for away games. I feel it makes the classic throwback purple/gold set seem more special if they were to wear them on occasions.

The current look with the home plate has grown stale. It'll always be symbolic for the two Cup wins, but the overall design is just... boring.
