Honestly, just to get out from under the extra year, and I assume their would some sweetener involved.

So you’d take on a higher cap hit and trade the better player to get out of the one extra year? And there wasn’t any mention of any sweetener.

That suggestion makes zero sense for the Kings, unless the goal is to help the Rangers.

When the present goal is to clear the books ASAP, yes I probably would.

The sweetener is nothing but an assumption, because what he wrote reads like what Leafs fans thought someone would do in taking Marleau.

I think the present goal is to clear bad books, not all books regardless of how good or bad the player is. This would be a horrendous deal imo.

Why is the current goal to clear the books? Why do the Kings need cap space so bad that they would make this move?

If Blake thinks King fans hate him now wait until he announces this trade, potentially. Trading Brown, Kopitar and Quick is going to involve a press conference where Blake is going to have the thank the player, kiss their butt a little then explain why they were traded.

Jesus Christ. What the f*** is being talked about right now?

Shittenkirk is trash. Always has been. Kiss of death player. Overrated when he was good.

Brown's extra year doesn't mean a thing.

Imagine talking moving Brown before Kovy. C'mon now.

I would take on Shattenkirk. I would also take on Jack Johnson. But that would be in an effort to gain more prospects and draft picks, not to clear our books.

Shattenkirk and a first round pick for Trevor Lewis.

Jack Johnson and Samuel Poulin for Tyler Toffoli.

Too bad we bought out Phaneuf - we could have a 2012 all star team.

Johnson - Doughty
Phaneuf - Shattenkirk

Maybe a few years ago they’d get their pitchforks and march on to Blake’s office. However everyone realizes this team is going nowhere for a season or two. Trading Quick and Brown at this point of their careers is doing them a favor, they can play on a team that’s competitive and playing for the cup.

The only thing Brown/Shattenkirk would do is save them $3m. While saving $3m is nothing to sneeze at, at this point, do you really think they would trade him, only to force him into free agency in late July/August? He'd have to find another team, move the family, etc. The time to get rid of him would've been years ago. Now, with everything that's happened to the franchise, there's no reason to do that to him. He's firmly entrenched in LA, personally and professionally. Again, $3m would be good savings, but unless he asks to be traded, he is very likely to retire as a King(save a ridiculous trade offer). He will be very content doing so, and I imagine the organizational will be very content in seeing it happen.

The Brooks would throw his name out there makes Brooks an idiot. He clearly has no concept of what the Kings are doing.

Quick and Brown are going to have to ask to be traded. Neither guy is chasing anything, and has there been any whisper of either being unhappy in LA? Maybe disappointed in how last year went, but wanting out to compete again? Not to mention goalies like Quick, old, expensive, with term, don't move teams too often. Bank on them both being here for many more seasons.

What if the sweetener was Kreider?

They're not going to screw Brown over, again, except this time making him a free agent well after July 1st. Plus Kreider has his own NTC, as does Shattenkirk, as does Brown. They're not coming here to waste away.

Brown will not be moved. I say that was someone who has been very critical of him for a long time. But he’s the exact kind of veteran player you want to keep around for a rebuild.
