This goes back to when we were talking about SJ a few weeks back: dudes love playing there. They have guys take discounts to stay and then, when they leave for more money, they miss it and wish they didn't leave.

Basically the same tax situation as down here as well. I know they are all losers until they actually win it, but there is no argument that they've been a much stronger team and locker room than this one since the Reverse Sweep. I can't even tell if the Kings like each other that much, starting with the 2017 season.

To me, Labanc would have been an ideal offer sheet candidate but, if his heart is set in SJ it really is moot.

That’s a big risk on his part. Hopefully he doesn’t suffer a serious injury.

Little gamble on himself there for Labanc.

Damage is already done for the Sharks though, and that will arguably actually hurt them more starting next year.

Not sure it's a genius move by Wilson as it's largely heradled to be, he's largely just borrowing from next years'--and several years'--cap. Guess it depends what they do with it.

Jordan Staal is from Thunder Bay Ontario Canada which happens to have one of the biggest Finnish community in North America. Not that this has anything to do with him going there. :help:

He's running up the cards, taking loans against equity, and tapping into the 401K.

Can't really blame him even if there's a more than a little insanity mixed into his methods. What's the worst thing that happens for him, he gets fired? He'd get snapped up by a team that wouldn't be in total mess mode like the Sharks will be before long.

Similar to other tenured GMs like Stan Bowman, Bob Murray, and Poile. Those guys have had their teams so good for so long that they've earned a lot of rope even for the guys who never got over the hump and they'd have carte blanche at a new franchise. I'd definitely be comfortable experimenting a little more if I were him.

I frequently travel to San Jose for business, and I don't see the big attraction. It doesn't suck mind you, but it's meh for me.

It must be the organization I guess.

None of the kings live in DTLA, they all live at the beach. Same with the Sharks, none of them live in SJ, they all live with the other rich people in places like Mountain View and Palo Alto. Plus you're 45 min from San Fran / Santa Cruz. 2 hours from napa/somoma wine country. It's actually a pretty sweet place to live, especially is you have a fat bank account.

Well let me clarify. I am in Mountain View as well when I am there. I still don't get the big attraction. It is nice enough, but even a hockey player's dollars don't go very far there.

Wilson got incredibly lucky with players like Burns, Thornton, and Pavelski remaining highly productive into their 30s.

Imagine if Carter was still potting 30+ and Richards was still a 50-60 point center? That’s how lucky the Sharks have been with their elder statesmen.
kings also play a grinding type of hockey all these years that wears on a player...

When I lived in LA I found the traffic to be the worst part of it, when I moved to the bay area, I found the traffic was bad but in many ways different and overall a better situation. The morning and evening commutes are much worse in the bay area, but much less traffic in the middle of the day and at night.
