I like the deal for Colorado since it fills the 2C spot for at least three seasons at a good cap hit and gives them more grit in the Top 6 to add to Landeskog. Kadri just needs to stop being a total dip shit in the playoffs.

Makar is going to be a big problem for the West and then they've got Byram waiting in the wings. Newhook might be ready to replace Kadri once the latter's contract is up.

If I was Colorado I would have waited at least a year to pull the trigger on a Barrie for Center trade. At least gauge where Byram is projecting. And there could have been better options than Kadri.

Hard to not compare this to the Johnson for Carter deal. DL only pulled the trigger there when he knew for sure Voynov was ready to fill the defensive void.

This is the last year of Barrie's contract, there isn't another year to wait to trade him.

Leafs need a capable backup goalie to spell Andersen. Sparks was pretty poor last year.

They resigned Hutchinson so I guess he will battle it out for the backup role. They have to give the backup at least 25 games or they will wear the tread on Freddie’s tires come playoff time.

Load management is key.:thumbu:

I don't think so. I think if anything their roster is better this year than last and funny enough they've sold out for more offense instead of fixing the D. But they've also gone full 2015 Kings without even being past the first round, they're bleeding picks and prospects now.

They’re actually ok pick wise with the exception of the 1st they owe Carolina.

Prospect wise, they do look a bit light.

Well about $300M short.

Now that the bulk of the meaningful off-season moves have happened, I look at the west and see a Top 8 (in no order) and a drop.

After that, is it VAN, CHI or AZ?

Looking at a min of 12 mil x's 6 or 7 combined. I guess they expect the cap to go up...really up.

That's quite the risk.

When Seattle joins the league, does the $750 million to enter the league go towards revenue? If yes, then which season does it affect the cap?

The Pros and Cons of NHL Expansion

Even better, at least from the owners’ perspective, is that the expansion fees won’t count as hockey-related revenue, which means it wouldn’t be shared with the players in the form of an increased salary cap. All of that money would essentially go directly into the owners’ pockets. That seems like a pretty easy vote to take.

It goes to the various owners:

"The Seattle franchise will pay a $650 million expansion fee to be distributed in equal shares among 30 of the NHL's presently excluding 2017 expansion club — and soon-to-be division rival — the Vegas Golden Knights"

Thank you very much!

So, we're possible approaching a pinnacle of revenue, where the cap isn't expected to keep going up.

Even if we just focus on inflation the cap should continue to rise fairly steadily.
Further there is a new TV deal coming up that likely will lead to a significant bidding war, live sports is still very valuable.
Lastly, just adding the 32nd team should lead to a rise in the cap, even if the expansion fees don't go towards HRR, just their presence should steadily increase it.
