I'm sure it will come up in the CBA. I don't really have beef with it, but then again, AEG is filthy f***ing rich. It is a manner in which a bigger market can screw over a smaller market.

Then again, watching Dubas squirm while talking about what an advantage he has being able to do that in one breath while whimpering about unfair state taxes in other is pretty entertaining.

It is a subset of sorts, the reporter who posted is, said TSN noted the revenue last year was 25M, unless he misunderstood. The output for AHO would be 21M in 366 days, so that is significant. But I should have researched it a bit before posting.

According to the Forbes list below, they lose money every year. For 2018 the operating income was -3.9 M . And as the article states, without a basketball team to help anchor the cost of the arena, it's an uphill battle. THey are skating on thin ice.

Carolina Hurricanes on the Forbes The Business of Hockey List

Worth noting that Karmanos bought the team in 1994 for $47.5m, sold majority of interest to Dundon for $420M in 2018. You can have a negative operating income every year and still be a worthwhile investment. If you don't have the cashflow to support in, you could have issues, but you'd need a lot more information to figure that out.

That link also says ticket revenue for 2017-2018 was $27m, so the $25m for last year is likely also just the ticket revenue and doesn't include the TV contract, advertising, profit sharing, etc which all combined was $109m for 2017-2018.

I also wonder how much is creative accounting, like AEG complaining they're losing money on the team while controlling all the parking around the arena, all the concessions, etc.

Like sure you're losing .5 million on payroll and gaining eleventy billion dollars on one f***ing parking lot

I am also very confused by people worrying so much about signing bonus’. For the full year the money ends up the same, it’s basically just a possible cash flow issue for some teams. Which even then seems a little strange, because in my eyes, I feel like each team actually has higher cash numbers then actual realized revenues on July first. Because season ticket holders are forced to give each team a nice zero interest loan in the form of “deposits” well before that revenue is realized. And if that isn’t enough, taking out a bridge loan for a few million shouldn’t be to hard for a team valued at ~500 million.

It’s all creative accounting. I bet they’re taking a loss on the parking lot somehow too.

Big trade. I wanted Toronto to continue to suffer cap wise.

Barrie is a largely offensive dman yes? Arent they still lacking pretty big time on the defensive side of the game?

I suppose the leafs are still gonna be screwed cap wise next year? Kadri was on a good contract, the guys they are bringing in have expiring contracts, they are going to have to sign players again next year, albeit not their top guys. They are also a pretty small team still right? Who brings any grit there?

Hopefully there is some sort of cap on in the next CBA. It is getting ridiculous.
If they want to end the nonessential contracts; make each player’s cap hit whatever the get paid for the year and no signing bonus silliness. No income averaging.

Colorado loading up to go for it over the next few seasons. The Avs were planning on moving Barrie out of Denver. I think the return is about even. Kadri gives them some sand paper the Avs didn't have enough of in their lineup, and he can play the 2C slot.

Is it just me or has Toronto seemingly gutted its depth?

I don't think so. I think if anything their roster is better this year than last and funny enough they've sold out for more offense instead of fixing the D. But they've also gone full 2015 Kings without even being past the first round, they're bleeding picks and prospects now.
