Making both a SCF and WCF in the last four seasons is more than a wet fart. Maybe it was a wet fart in the close out games but there were pretty triumphant and proud farts until that point. If making the WCF isn't a big deal, let's start talking about the Kings good stretch as 2012 and 2014 only and just skip over '13.

Look: I hate the Sharks. I don't believe they will do it and I was only going to start being worried this last season if they made the SCF yet there was a ton of worry on this very board, even after just getting past Vegas. Once they crash out though, everyone is back to saying they will never win it.

Sol sticks to his guns and said they would get smashed by Colorado in Round 2. I firmly believe he will stick to believing they will never win it even if they are up 3-0 in the Final. It just seems there is a lot of surety that the Sharks will never win but then everyone starts getting scared once they look good in Round 2.

There isn't a single SJ fan wringing their hands that the Kings have won 2 Stanley Cups. Especially when they occurred a half decade ago. And I would guess there aren't many SJ fans that are wringing their hands about what the team will look like in 5 years (unless K17 has a relative who lives up there). SJ has some potentially exciting years ahead of them...just let them enjoy it. They don't give a d@mn about what fans from teams think nor should they (if they are mature at any rate). Win with humility; lose with class and don't dwell or live in the past.
Feck San Jose. May they stew in their own sheet.

i mean i'd disagree with that but i think its mostly because they have fingers in their ears and a blindfold over their eyes

I'm pretty sure if you told any of us in 2004 we could pick one of the following for the next 15 years:

1. Be pretty mediocre in general with a few short playoff runs but a three year run with two Stanley Cups and a WCF, vs.

2. Be the best regular season team of the era and almost always make the playoffs, going past the 2nd round once every few years, but never make it all the way

I could say confidently 90% of us would pick 1.

I'm not going to say the sharks have been mediocre, but I am going to say people put wayyyy too much stock in the regular season, and that San Jose constantly enters the playoffs a 'favorite' but falls on their faces, it's not like they're an underdog defying expectations, the VAST majority of those exits have been a great disappointment. How many years running have we had a "can anyone beat the Sharks?!?" thread?

Love when Sharks fans on the main board tell me the Blackhawks suck and will be garbage for a long time.

(Ignoring the fact we have the #3 pick, Strome, DeBrincat, Perlini, Gustafsson and 19/88 are only 31. - but thats a different story)

I could care less if my team is now crap and in the draft lottery. They won 3 cups in 6 years, including the 2013-2015 stretch where they went Champs-Almost made (really good series against you guys, much better than the SCF)-Champs. Sharks fans dont even know what a real banner is. Call me a loser but I think that 2014 WCF kinda of brought our fanbases together, we were rivals and still are, but I think a new respect was shared and given on both sides of the ice.

Please reference or link a thread where that occurred...I'd love to know the full context.

Like I said, I'm not the type to instigate. But if you're going to get in my face with a smug attitude about how awesome they are and how we should be so lucky that the Kings should be so successful, expect my answers from above. That's all.

Let them hang a banner for that then so I can repeatedly tell them what a wet fart it is. Those would be only slightly better than the Taylor Swift banner.

I know we're on the same side here. I'm sticking to my guns about how dumb it would be for them to parade 'success' around in our faces.

Things Kings fans can't admit:
Lundqvist was a great goaltender.
Price is/was a great goaltender
Karlsson is really good.
The Sharks are really good. (Hopefully that's coming to an end)

Lundqvist is the best goaltender of this generation for longevity and consistency.
Price had an insane peak, but sorry, he's getting the MTL market boost. He's had more 'bad years' than any other regular goalie. Still, one of the best of the generation.
Karlsson is a top-3 NHL defenseman. I don't get why criticizing him is saying he sucks, and his defenders, even on this board, get up in arms if you so much as blink at him wrong.
The Sharks are really good. They have been. @KingsFan7824 brought the receipts. There's no denial about that.

I don't understand why we're not allowed to criticize things without judgment. It's not binary.

Not as good as everybody said while shitting on Quick.

Not as good as everybody said while shitting on Quick.

Not as good as everybody said while shitting on Doughty.

Not as good as they think they are while shitting on the Kings.

We don't admit it because everyone would shit on the Kings to put the above on a pedestal.

Except I never said anything remotely close to that.

We have a banner for making the SCF in '93.

Yes, it would be dumb for them to parade their "success". Yes, it is dumb for us to act like they are a trash franchise when I can barely remember what it was like to be a fan of a great team, but I get it.

Sorry, that was a generic "you," not "you" as in "tomd said it."

This all circles back to how the discussion started, though. I agree. My point is just there's a bigtime grass is always greener thing going on here that brought the Sharks convo on in the first place. I can't believe this board was romanticizing the Sharks vets.

Got it. I usually try to avoid engaging those types in future discussions. It normally always mean that I need to lower my IQ by 30 or 40 points.

Regarding the Sharks vets, my point (not that you asked!) is that Wilson is not letting their remaining years go to waste and he is intent upon improving the team. That may work and it may not but I admire him wanting to maintain that winning culture. It looks like the team will be in the playoff hunt for the foreseeable future which will be great for the fans and great for the organization financially. Five years from now is another story but that is a lifetime in pro sports.

Yeah, I'm not so much romanticizing their pre-2016 exploits but rather saying they've been pretty good since 2016 while we've been sucking their ass.

It's the diminishing of SJ has done. Why? To make the Kings current reality more palatable? Not the trash talking, but it's people calling them mediocre. If you look up the definition of mediocre, that word does not fit the Sharks. If they had been mediocre, we wouldn't care about them. They wouldn't even be on our radar(not that the Kings have a radar anymore). They would be the Oilers. The Kings and Oilers used to have a pretty good thing, but they invoke no emotion anymore, because it's been almost 30 years since they played a meaningful game against each other. There was that one Doughty/Hall incident, and it was ok, here's the start of somet...and then nothing.

It's kind of like going back to the 2003 draft. Brown has been mostly very good. He's raised the 2 Cups as captain. Are there any players that were taken after Brown, that you would rather the Kings have had to try to win the Cup with? There are better players that were taken after Brown. Not many, but a few that you could make a case for. Some have fewer Cups, some have no Cups. Would the Kings have won 2 Cups with anyone other than Brown? Nobody will ever know, but a couple have been better NHL players. Maybe for their entire career, maybe for a short amount of time. There's no other player from that draft that captained his team to even one championship, but does that make Brown the best pick the Kings could've made?

No words for you just sympathy.
Who cares about the Sharks. I’ve been a Kings fan since 88. I don’t need to blow sunshine their way. I actually like Burns and Karlsson but Im not gonna actively cheer for them. It was a blessing to see “my” team win two after many lean years. I didn’t earn them. I tease sharks fans but I firmly believe teams win for a reason. Fan bases should be able to experience that joy. All except San Jose ;)

I think it's more than that. The vets themselves aren't allowing Wilson to waste their remaining years. Had the Sharks flat out quit from day 1 of camp one of these years, is Wilson(or whoever would've been GM by then) going to invest in the current year's team?

I think that might be the deep down foundation of this entire line of conversation; we still can't quite believe how inconsistent and/or bad the championship players on this team have been for the last 5 years. It also doesn't help that management hasn't been able to draft/develop/bring anyone in to help the top players that have to end up playing the entire game.

This was one of the best series of hockey I've ever seen. Talk about so many ups and downs and changes in momentum.

This series gave everyone not just acid indigestion but heart palpitations to boot.
