I don't like what Columbus did leading up to and at the deadline for the simple reason it appears several key players and acquisitions will leave at the end of the season. For that reason, I don't think these players are going to be playing for each other, or are fully invested in Columbus making the playoffs.

Add Tortorella to the mix and some of the mercenaries Columbus brought in may be marking time until they can get out of there.

Assuming LA was competing for the playoffs, I would be pissed if LA sold that much to bring in that many rentals. However I really want it to work in Columbus so more teams go for it next year, increasing trades and trade values. It is a copy cat league and LA has Toffoli, Lewis, Clifford, Forbort as rentals next year.

I don't like what they did, either.

But the problem is GMs (understandably) are trying to keep his job.

If he can't get past the first round, I'd say Kekelainen is gone.

GMs can mortgage their team's future prior to being fired and will eventually find a new job.

I get why Kekelainen did what he did, but this is a case where ownership needs to seek outside counsel and say, "Wait a minute."

I agree. I was more lamenting the situation.

It's a tricky balance. Obviously you don't want owners too involved (like pre-Lombardi Anschutz). But you also don't want the GM to sign a player to a lousy contract right before you plan to fire him (like the Oilers with Chiarelli)

Florida pulls an Anaheim and chokes away a 3-2 lead with less than a minute left and ends up losing 4-3 to the Bruins.

f***, Jack Edwards is an annoying play by play guy.

Everyone always talks about Phoenix, but Florida really is the NHL's worst franchise. Just been horrendous for almost their entire existence.

Although it's nice to see Bob Boughner struggling in the NHL, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Ducks kids look good. They asked one of the guys on NHL radio who would bounce back sooner, Kings or Ducks and they picked Kings? Why?

Ducks have Terry, Jones, and Steel up front to go with Sprong. Ritchie and Kase are still young. Silfverberg is only 27. I didn’t even mention Comtois. Most of these kids are ready for the show.

On D they have Larsson and even after trading Vatanen and Montour still have a solid trio of Fowler, Manson and Lindholm - all three early to mid 20’s.

And in goal, Gibson only 25.

All the Kings top prospects are 18,19. There are no good players in the early 20’s. Guys like Luff and Wagner are promising but not game changers. We don’t have what the Ducks have in that they have a solid core of players in their mid 20’s PLUS prospects with pro experience ready to step in.

The game against the Habs was more exciting than 75% of the Kings games I’ve seen this year. Youth, grit and speed. The lines look fresh and young because of injuries to players like Kesler. Kings still old and boring. Kopitar and Brown. Boring. Carter and Toffoli. Boring. Lewis and Clifford. Boring. Same old combos for years.

This is my fear, that the suburban after thought Ducks are well ahead of the Kings and win a lottery pick this year. That happens, Maybe Bob Murray’s up close time with Corey Perry convinces him to buy that guy out and get Panarin.

Lol Montreal. Their commentator was giving high praise during the Kings game about their commanding performance against a bottom feeding team like th Kings, which I don’t disagree with. But then they get smoked by Anaheim 8-2. Just lol.

Ducks just need to win one of those three games left versus LA and the Kings won’t catch them.

Looks like a bottom 4 finish at this point.

New Jersey plays Detroit in a few weeks. Let’s hope for a 3 point game.

Ottawa has a bunch of home games left but their schedule looks tough. Can’t see the Kings sucking worse than them down the stretch.

No one is catching Ottawa, they are pretty bad. Colorado getting a nice pick.

Dirty little push by Hagelin on Scheifele near the boards. That could have been a serious injury. Surprised Scheifele didn’t get hurt.

I’m sure there will be a thread regarding it on the main board somewhere.

To make matters worse, Hagelin just scored to give the Caps a 2-1 lead.
