Ducks clinch the Pacific Division title. Now I'm hoping the Blues somehow secure 5th (that is if the Kings lock up 4th) and they play in the opening round. I want to see the Kings embarrass the Blues and Elliott for a second consecutive year.

you'll just hear blues fans crying about without halak they are a different team.

Edmonton is an embarrassment, how in the world is that team going to finish lower than Calgary?

LOL. Gary Valk on Sportsnet calling Daniel Sedin's goal, "Possibly the goal of the year.". Now praising the Canucks for their Northwest division 'dominance', as he would say. Gotta be tough with the Oilers, Flames, Colorado and Wild (up until this year). But no, according to him it doesn't matter who is in the division. Christ, why do I have to deal with these pathetic homers?

It does sound painful.

Teams in the new Pacific Division are going to give Vancouver a rough ride next season.

Edmonton and Calgary better pick it up or they will be out of playoff contention by mid-January.

The roster is absolutely hideous.

They have some nice young forwards and two good defenders, that is it.

Amazing thing is for next season they are on the hook for $16 million between Horcoff, Hemsky, Smyth and Nick Schultz. How is that even possible, you can also add another $2 for Eric Belanger.

Even Sam McMaster thinks Tambellini was a joke as a GM.

Losers mentality breeds loser hockey. A bunch of kid forwards who don't know what it means to win with a bunch of no heart veterans pretty much writes itself. Then they can't keep the puck out of the net or move it to those forwards, so fundamentally they are a broken hockey team.

That team will have some of those kids long gone before they become a winning team. The ELC situations, improvements needed, and math just doesn't add up. The front office keeps exchanging one coach for another rather than address these problems via trade, so they've written their own destiny and nobody should feel sorry for that organization. You can't make a bunch of kids who've won nothing untouchable under any circumstance and just expect that they'll all wake up one day and play winning hockey.

Just reading random OOT threads and found my way here and would just like to note that it's painful for Canucks fans as well

I want the Canucks to face the Blues. I call the Blues winning that series in 5, at the most 6.

I always stop listening when I hear the words "Gary Valk".

The Canucks are my dark horse team in the west. Its funny to think that the Div winner would be a dark horse but that is how things have gone for the Canucks since their run to the finals. I see a ton of fight in them this year and think that they will be a scary playoff team.

I hope I'm wrong.;)

The Washington-Winnipeg game should be a good one. Such an odd place to be for those teams, either 3rd or out.

Interesting how goal differential almost directly maps to position in standings. Detroit is the only top 8 anomaly at present and I would expect that to shake itself out this week. I don't see Columbus getting in, but I'd be thrilled if they do. Detroit needs a playoff vacation. :)

Kings'll beat down DET 7-0 to help their goal differential reflect their spot ;). But Winnipeg is going to win tonight to throw it off again :yo:

They signed Horcoff coming off a 21 goal, 50 point in 53 game season. Two years prior, when they went to the finals, he had 22 goals and 73 points in 79 games. It probably wasn't a great contract at the time, but, you have to spend money, and who was the better option at the time?

Edmonton just isn't an easy place to build a team. They had their dynasty run, but that was before money really became an issue, and player movement was pretty much restricted to trades. For the last 20-some years, they haven't been able to keep a team together for very long. They had to trade Arnott for Guerin, and then Guerin for Carter, then had to trade Carter. They haven't drafted or developed talent all that well either.

Edmonton and Calgary are two of the more difficult places to try and build a consistent contender. I don't think it's any coincidence that both teams could build great teams at a time when money and player movement wasn't a huge deal, but since then, have both struggled to do anything similar, even with a cap.

Not like the Kings have been any better during the last 20+ years, up until June 11th of last year.
