I was just having lunch and The Black Parade came on the radio at the place I was eating at.

Hard to imagine a band I hate as much as My Chemical Romance can bring me back to such a wonderful time. That pre game during the finals in 2012 was so unreal. I remember being at game 3 with my Dad and witnessing in person that legendary run.

Everything about the team feels so much different now but nobody can take those days away from us.

Lean and Hungry.

Well, let's not forget it was a first and McKeown for Sekera.

Sure, McKeown may not have become who we hoped, but that was a horrible trade. Some thought it was bad. Others, like me, thought it could be conditionally good. But by and large people were right to criticize the trade

Yes I recall and the first has turned out to be a fringe NHLer' at this point (Julien Gauthier). I didn't have an issue with it at the time considering the circumstances.

Habs are my pick to get Eichel unless Bergevin gets fired this summer.
fit would be great there. Would be nice to see Montreal have some sort of answer for the center depth in Toronto.

Montreal is such an oddly constructed team. They have a goalie making over $10M, they have some great young players, but their captain (and best d-man) is also getting up there in years and often injured.

Wow, TNT already making big moves! I didn't dislike the NBC broadcast, and there were a lot of people on it I really like like Keith Jones who I think does a great job, but the overall broadcast is pretty boring and bland. I hope it's better and showcases the players and behind the scenes more and doesn't devolve into some TikTok YouTube social media trash show. They need to replicate what Fox and CBS do, both do an excellent job covering the NFL.

If you have ever wondered what a black hole team looks like, well it pretty much it looks like the Canadiens. Nothing about this team blows you away. They aren't good enough to regularly contend or even make a dent in the playoffs, but they can't tank. Their drafts are littered with so-so players; the highest impact player they've drafted in the past 6 drafts (Mikhail Sergachev) they traded away for Jonathan Drouin, who has been disappointing. Their highest pick, 3rd overall in 2018, hasn't exactly lit the world on fire (Jesperi Kotkaniemi).

League finish the past 6 seasons: 22nd, 7th, 28th, 14th, 24th, 18th.

Looks like TNT is going to have a hockey roundtable crew similar to how they have their NBA setup which I quite enjoy. Gretzky is akin to Kenny Smith so they will have to find an equivalent to Charles Barkley, need someone with some edge.

Marty McSorely.

Throw in Krushelnyski too. If it keeps Gretz happy, might as well.

And quite frankly, if you look at what TNT has done with basketball, they don't analyze the game very much. They just sit and tell stories. That's remarkable. That's fantastic. That's what should happen.

 John Shannon talks such a load of corporate **** in that article... Gretzky having as much impact on TV as he used to have on the ice? Yeah, right...

The idea is to try and gain new fans and do a better job of promoting the product: Gretzky lends the proceedings instant credibility and is a splashy get. Next step is for him to actually be good on TV.

Basketball players exist in a world where there are only nine other dudes on the floor at the same time while they are instantly identifiable since they wear no protective equipment. They seem to yearn for the spotlight while hockey stars routinely disappoint with how boring they are when given the chance to show some personality. Hopefully they include someone that has played recently and brings some personality to the table. Of course, anyone with personality on hockey broadcasts have also not been able to keep from getting themselves cancelled as of late so we'll see what happens.

Smith/Barkley/Shaq all immediately joined Turner following the end of their playing careers so, while they are old now, they weren't 60 years old when they started like Gretzky will be. Going to be interesting to see how he does. I don't want to see him just being diplomatic all the time.

Gretzky is a good speaker, I think it will translate well as long he does not have to be the life of the party

Totally agree. I also think they will use Gretzky as a bridge until they can bring in somebody younger who has recently retired and an American audience might recognize. But, like you said, that next younger guy needs the personality to match his star studded stats. Most in the US don't care about the history and all time stat leaders in the NHL. At least in my experience.
