Better to get something than nothing for him. Couldn't nail down a spot there. Maybe a fresh start does him good.

I'm looking forward to see how Heiskanen does in Big D this year.

He's got a boatload of talent but he's only 19, so it's hard to say , all young players mature at the NHL level in different ways. But he's on their 2nd pairing with Methot, and he'll get his minutes. He's a fun player to watch.

Any other 'kids' your looking forward to seeing how they do this season?

Pettersen, Dahlin, Mittlestadt and Svechnikov are the bigger ones that come to the forefront. Martin Neces and Yamamoto, if he sticks, to a lesser extent.

I think Roslovic is still a year away from a bigger role in Winnipeg.

Too bad Tolvanen got sent down to Milwaukee (AHL) but I'm sure he will be back up soon enough.

4 teams in the last years, although he did play well in Columbus, I thought. Odd career, he has the tools, but for some reason stability has been an issue. Bouncing around to a new club every year isn't easy.
He's a decent 2/3 liner, for some team, maybe he just needs the right fit. I think the BJ's speed/style was good for him and he was comfortable with the way he was deployed. In Vancouver, he seemed to struggle.
I think on the right team, he'd be a good fit.
issue is he is not quite skileld enough to be a top 6 player but not defensively responsible enough to play in the bottom 6. Would think he could find top 6 work in Ottawa though

FOUR shorties? Brutal. I wonder how many of them Karlsson was on the ice for. Looks like at least 2.

NHL record for most shorties against in a year is 22 - by three teams, most recently in 1995-96 by Colorado. Looks like SJ might have that by Christmas.

Two. One directly responsible via turnover and standing around, one indirectly because burns turned it over looking for him but he was just standing there not making it easy to support the puck and Joe Thornton of all people got back even before him.

Those guys will be high risk together on the PP. High reward certainly but a shorty waiting to happen since neither one is interested in getting back in a hurry. Just because they 'can' doesn't mean they 'do.'

Is there a stat that keeps track of turnover conversions? I feel like the Kings are at the bottom of that list. Every other team seems to score on turnovers more often than not.

Here are some of the particularly damning quotes.

Doughty: "I don’t know. We don’t have an answer for anything right now. We don’t know why we lost and why we were so poor this (preseason). But if it’s a chemistry thing, then we’re doing something wrong because we had all camp to create that chemistry."

STevens: "“Tonight we looked slow,” Stevens said. “I don’t know if the schedule caught up with some of the guys. I’ll take responsibility for that. Some guys were asked to play a lot. …
“Whatever the reason is, we need to reset.”"

Drew also going back to the schedule: “That was the hardest camp I’ve ever been a part of. I was absolutely gassed."

It was ridiculous so I can see some of the guys who were going extra hard all week--like Kempe, who played damn near every night--being sloppy, but Drew? the ****? why?

With the rest of the guys too like I said above maybe you can take it as a positive--sucked in the preseason, will learn from it, get better, etc.--but I don't like at all what I saw because it completely contradicts what was said all summer. THAT makes me extremely bitter as well as skeptical. And all the "I don't know"s are really, really troubling for me.
I also hate that there doesn't seem to be ANY chemistry from anyone with a couple of exceptions.

Pettersen, Svenchnikov and Dahlin for sure, top end skill. Dahlin is , I think, a generationD, so good already at both ends of the ice, speed , IQ, he's got it all.

A kid that the Bolts brought up last year, a center Cirelli, I remember being impressed with him in the playoffs, very good 2 way play and up against top centers and held his own. Lots of hustle and heart.
Zykov, I only saw a few games from him last year but liked what I saw. I think they're going to have him on the top line with Aho and Svenchinkov, which will help his game. Another kid on the Canes I think will do okay is Necas.
Ottawa is planning on having quite a few prospects on the team, in addition to Tzachuk.
and Heiskanen from the Stars.
The last 2 years, the Jets had Laine and Conner, this year it's a 6'4 forward Vesalainen.
Borgstrom on the Panthers
I would say Zadina on the Wings, loved his draft comment to the Habs, who passed on him that he was going to 'bury pucks in your net'. But I think he got sent back.

Complete waiver list from today

Nothing really to see on that list. Pretty telling that Gagner can't even make the Canucks, his future may be in Europe.

Grimaldi, another local kid who was pretty highly touted who flopped in the NHL. Matt Nieto from LONG BEACH still the best local player.

Uh what? McDavid? Doughty? There are way better players from Ontario than from Long Beach...

Sabres claim Remi Elie (Dallas)
Canes claim McBackup (Tor)
Flyers claim Pickard (Tor)
Caps claim Jaskin (St. Louis)

McElhinney was a good pickup for the Cames , he was good for the Leafs last year, in back of a team that had little defensive structure. And Darling is out, so they did good by getting him.

For all the hype around the TML this year, they are one Freddy Anderson injury away from some serious concerns on D. Throw in the Nylander holdout and their upcoming cap crunch and it makes for interesting off ice stories for that team.
