Main page has a link to an article in the Athletic: "2018-19 Goalie Tiers: Anonymous panel of GMs and coaches...". Quick is in Tier 2 and # 8 overall. I love this quote:

“If you gave me Jonathan Quick right now to go win a game, I’d be like, ‘f***ing right,’” said one head coach. “If you had to win one game, how many guys in front of him are on the list?”

Everybody watches Quick against their own team and believe that he always shows up to play against them.

Everybody watches Quick in the big games and think he's a big game player.

Everybody looks at Quick's career save % and think somehow he must only play well when they're watching him and put up pedestrian numbers when they aren't watching him rather than considering the folly of save % as an analytic. That's how you end up with Quick in tier 2 despite everyone wanting him for "1 game."

Nothing wrong with a Tier 2 goalie when tier 1 is only 2 goalies.

On this list, every list is different, but the general consensus around Quick is that there's always a handful or more guys ahead of him but in the "have to pick a guy for 1 game" hypothetical suddenly Quick jumps several spots up. My point is that people see the disconnect between his save % and the Quick that they see when they tune in (against their team or the "big game" they decided was worthy enough to watch) and erroneously concluded that he's just not as good when they aren't watching.

Huh, and the Tier 1 guys? No way anyone takes Bob over Quick in the playoffs. Vas gets by because the jury is still out on him but he was noticeably weaker late in the season.

The article is right though, not much separating (top) goalies these days. Like I'd definitley have the #1 guy over the #10 guy and things like that, but dudes 2-3 names apart on the list wont mean much of a difference but contracts, injuries, and intangibles.

Obviously seeing what we've seen gimme Quick.

I just like the expression "f***ing right." I've never heard it anywhere outside of hockey. Is it a Canadian thing or is it a hockey thing (or a Canadian hockey thing)?

That coach could technically be Stevens.

As we've seen, there's a very fine line with Quick. When he is that perfect match of athlete and goalie, it's tough to get the puck by him. When he's too athletic, or not athletic enough, there are some soft goals he can let go in.

Quick is our guy. He can lead our team at any one time to victory by himself. He is signed dirt cheap and bleeds our colors. Ya there may be bigger, younger and more statistical pleasing goalies but he is my guy in a one game winner take all situation. Love his energy and never say die attitude.

Yeah if there's one thing beyond reproach its' Quick's heart and competitiveness, and I love that despite that, he never throws his teammates under the bus. He's the perfect goalie if you're a defenseman...mostly because that makes you feel worse about messing up and makes you want to play harder instead of looking back at Hank throwing his hands up and thinking "f*** this primadonna."

Man, Perry and Kesler. I feel for the Ducks to as much of a degree as you can feel for your crosstown rival. You want to beat them straight up, but as we have aging players as well, can certainly sympathize with the late-career, playoff-warrior injuries.
