Voynov is the answer. He'll be in uniform before training camp. Just wait

Ha! I'd like to think that Voynov returning is the reason we didn't re-sign Folin. Sadly, methinks that's wishful thinking.....

EDIT: Would be nice, though.....

Forbort / Doughty
Phaneuf / Voynov
Martinez / LaDue

Brickley & MacDermid & Fanta

Again, please trade Muzzin.

It’s weird with him. Three or four times a year he’d have a game where he would be out there pancaking d-men and creating opportunities. Maybe even show some puck handling skill. Then...gone for months.

That's why he was a Sutter favorite. He never paid attention to the other 60 or so games where Nolan would coast through the neutral zone with zero effort to backcheck. Nolan was also a different player the day he got suspended.

I don’t quite get all the love for LaDue. He’s never yet impressed me and he must surely be at the last chance saloon. He has talent but just doesn’t fill me with confidence and needs to put it all together. Fantenberg played well in stretches and had a dip and his trip to the AHL before playing well again in the play-offs. I’m sure he will get a long look and he’s shown me more than LaDue and after a year adjusting to the NA game has more upside than LaDue IMO.

Brickley they are high on and they’ll do what’s best for his development. Waivers won’t come into it as the guys we are talking about have little or no value and are replaceable. My money is on Brickley and Fantenberg on the opening night roster, if we lose the other two guys so be it, but I think it’s unlikely.
One guess as to which Kings defenseman was on the ice for more Kings goals than Knights goals during the playoffs. (Also happened to be the only Kings defenseman to score a goal during the playoffs). Now guess who led the Kings defenseman in goals for % during the regular season? All of them were Paul LaDue.

In 36 total games as a King, LaDue has 4 goals and 9 assists. Extrapolate that out to a full season, that’s 9 goals and 21 assists. In my opinion, LaDue is a lock to make the team in September. Fantenberg and MacDermid will fight it out for the 7 spot.

The term "All In" will apply if he pulls this off.
Very true. I’m curious how OTT gets to the salary cap floor if they trade EK. Gotta be bring back some contracts and no way do they buyout Gabby. They are a big pile of **** right now and probably for the foreseeable future.

Is Karlsson looking at the same deal as Doughty?

Yes, it’s been reported he’s looking for something in that neighbourhood.

I honestly wouldn’t pay Karlsson $11 million per for thr next 7-8 years. I seriously have doubts if he is going to productive, say once he hits 32-33 years old and onward.

That ankle injury and the way he played this past season would turn me off. He just did not look right at all.

I know it could have been locker room drama that affected his play too but I’m just leery of giving him mucho diniero.

If he does go to a team like Tampa, atleast he will not have the pressure of being the man/face of the franchise.

Lightning don't impress me. I'd take the Penguins and Capitals over them in a 7 game series.

They are super soft, and seem to lack that certain drive or x-factor or - dare I say - grit required to win a championship.

It’s not like they’re any short on skill as it is. They’ve been one of the most skilled teams in the league for years now. Just can’t get over the hump.

I, for one, blame the Euros.

The word intangible is so overplayed on this site, but they really lack that intangible extra gear to get over the hump like you said.

I'm very bullish on Washington, I've felt for a while that if Ovi could get the first Cup out of the way he'll get a couple. I think Pittsburgh mentally reloads this offseason and takes another serious run.

I don’t think the Lightning are super soft but they are a bit soft. Coburn is still there, JT Miller is gritty. They don’t really have anyone on the 4th line that can throw the body though. Still have Paquette.

agree on the Bolts needing some vinegar , esp a vet type with that 'it ' factor. That is something they are definitely lacking.
Agree on the Pens, who if not out of gas by the end of their playoff run from 2 straight cup wins, would have not lost to the Caps.
Disagree on the Caps- they will not be able to recapture that chip on their shoulder or that hunger for the first cup. I don't see them getting deep in the playofffs next year.

It blows my mind that a team in this league could conceivably ice Karlsson, Hedman, and McDonagh.

I think they will have that. EK trade to the Bolts would have gone thru last night but they need a 3rd team involved to move out additional salary. Rangers were rumored to be that team it fell thru. Now Stevie Y is calling around to get an additional contract moved out.

AND Stralman. That was the Rangers' top two d-men in their SCF appearance. And conceivably Sergachev behind them because while he's likely to depart you never know with Dorion haha.

I'm impressed by TB but I agree to an extent that there's something off. Didn't they not score an even strength goal for the last few games of the Caps series? And Stamkos didn't have an ES point all series or something like that? Then again, adding Karlsson--who is absolutely generational offensively--to Kucherov and the rest of those weapons? Good lord.

More, because he's clearly the better player of the two... :eyeroll:

Sooooo many posts yesterday saying "you can't offer him the same contract as Doughty, that's an insult."

I guess they needed a bodyguard to protect Tavares after trading away Matt Martin.

Yeah. How the hell can Tampa afford to make that deal [if true], there's still a cap, right?

Stralman (4.5), Coburn (3.7), and Girardi (3.0) are entering the last years on their deals. Karlsson has one year left at 6.5 and they could presumably convince him that a 10 million dollar extension in Tampa would be equivalent post-tax to 11 million elsewhere.

Dumping the last two years of Callahan might be the holdup on the deal. His cap hit is 5.8 mil for two more years (but at 4.7 mil in real cash). Could see them trying to move Palat (5.3 mil) eventually to free up money for the Kucherov/Point extensions as well.

If TB is able to sign Karlsson for anything less than 10 mil, and is able to afford all of Hedman, McDonagh, Karlsson, Kucherov, and Stamkos, the league should immediately shut down to have an emergency owners meeting discussing the relationship the state income tax has on the cap.

It's not a huge advantage, but its a clear advantage that more than half the league does not have, and in an era where cap is anything, the fact that teams have completely different relationships to the same cap amount is absurd.
