Weird game today, but if the Preds keep playing this way*, they have a good chance of winning it.

*Oh yeah, and if Rinne plays his game..

Refs gave Pittsburgh the first period. Then they gave Nashville the 2nd and early 3rd. Such a poorly officiated game. I can't tell what's what after that game. Subban literally lifted Crosby off the ice with a hook in the 2nd that went uncalled. One of his skates came off the ice the hook under his arm lifted him up so much.

They really, really are. Complaining to the media that they're getting (Crosby in particular) crap treatment while they run around spearing, diving, and crying. It's a shame. Crosby is a phenomenal talent and I love watching him and at least his stuff is done while protecting himself, but as talented as they are, guys like Neal and Malkin are just awful human beings on the ice.

Add that to the offside challenge and this game has put a really bad taste in my mouth. I feel terrible for Nashville.

What a **** job on the offside rule in general. I get following the letter of the law but come on. Funny this comes mere hours after Bettman talks about how good he feels about that part of the game. Disgusts me. I nearly turned the game off completely.

Malkin is the sneakiest dirty player in the league. Constantly hacks, spears, and crosschecks, but no one talks about it because he's a top point producer. So dirty.

Crosby constantly does stupid **** behind the ref along with whining. All he does is talk to the ref and whine.

Plus they have a bunch of other dirtbags like Sestito.

Every Penguins game I've watched they constantly interfere. It's staggering.

No sympathy for these whiners and their constant complaining. Maybe if you weren't such a group of jackasses the refs wouldn't swallow their whistles.

Sheary, Rust, Guentzel.

Where do these guys come from for Pitt. Were they high draft picks?

Undrafted, third round, and third round.

Offsides. To many, including myself, looked inconclusive to overturn. Changed the whole game

I think the NHL should get rid of this type of review. The only thing they should be reviewing is a good goal. Did the puck cross the goal line or not. Keep it simple.

Just in general, there are too many video reviews in sports, slows the game right down.

It's function creep in a way. If A is reviewed, then maybe B should be. If B is reviewed, then C should be. If C is, then D should certainly be. The next step will be to review every call the refs make or miss, because I'd say it's doubtful they go back. After that, get rid of refs with technology that doesn't miss calls at all. Then get rid of players, since they make mistakes too.

If they take away the offside review, I'm going to guess the next time someone is offside, even just a little bit, and the refs miss it, fans will complain that the guy was offside, and it's not fair, and the league is rigged. Refs can't win, and somewhere fans will never be satisfied.

Vegas free-agent window will be from10 am ET on Sunday June 18 to 10 am ET on Wednesday June 21; same 72-hr period as expansion draft window

Replying to @PierreVLeBrun

Vegas can sign any UFA in the NHL during this period as well as unprotected RFAs. Would count as Vegas' expansion draft pick from that team

If Rinne lets in goals like that, this won't be a very long series.

If the Preds win this, it will be because of Rinne, whose been outstanding. He's the main reason they're still playing. Bad game last night, first time to SCF jitters? But if they lose, it will be because they are weak down the middle. Not because of Rinne.
Pitts was lucky, they didn't play good and deserved to lose. And the fact the Preds shut them down like that should worry them.

The #pens are just the fourth team since 1990 to win a playoff game with 12 shots or les
s.

I agree. Not only was it inconclusive but the goal happened roughly 10-15 seconds after the offside play AND Pittsburgh had clear control of the puck and turned it over in their own zone.

Should of never implemented offside review in the first place.

That's the problem, the league just keeps expanding review. :shakehead

I kind of agree, but I've seen more people upset with the reviews than upset that a guy was an inch over the line while making a puck possession move. It's ticky-tack. The obvious question as you point out becomes 'how much offsides is acceptable?' but I feel like it wasn't a problem to solve in the first place. Yes, once a decade you'll get the obnoxious Duchene-10-miles-offside play, but more often than not, you're smoking the energy out of the game with a 10 minute review to see if the puck crossed the line before the player lifted his foot in a Stanley Cup Final game. That's more damaging to the game, and if I were the linesman, I'd be wondering why even bother having me on the ice?

The easiest thing to do is change the offside rule itself. Make the blue line a plain. Would shorten any reviews there. We'd lose the player dragging the skate to stay onside, which can be a pretty play. But there's a whole lot less subjection to the rule. You run the line up the boards and with a camera in the boards, that's already there, you have a perfect shot of it.

I tend to agree. It's pretty hard for the human eye to tell if a skate blade is a quarter of and inch off the ice surface. Some camera angles don't provide conclusive evidence as well.

If it's a plane as you suggest, it's an easy call.

Another option that should be considered is for the challenging team to be penalized for delay of game if its challenge is overruled.

One of the big things about that particular challenge was how much earlier it was before the goal was actually scored.

Also the fact that it changed possession back to Pittsburgh. Seems like that should nullify a challenge, but I know that's not currently the rule.
