After seeing the Canes-Nucks highlights, giving up 4 in a period doesn't seem so bad. Nucks give up 6 in the third and lose 8-6.

I guess that's who the Kings should be comparing themselves to these days. Closer to the Canucks than 1st place in the Pacific. The Canucks have one more playoff win and game played than the Kings in the last 2 years.

Panthers put Tallon back in charge of day to day operations and giving him the role he's best suited for. No shock the team tanked since Gallant was fired, esp in their own end. D is awful, Rowe's moves this summer, weakened the back end. Wouldn't be surprised to see Tallon improve that.

Stick tap to the retired Captain...he's a smart guy and a leader who is still respected by exteammates

Just to be clear. Feel bad for ex mates & fans who need a clear direction/path. Confusion by no clear path stunts the kids growth. Dale

Pens (7), Flyers (10), Jackets (7) & Caps (5) have combined to win 29 in a row. Good luck to Atlantic Div teams trying to make the wildcard

Metro's tough this year. As much as the FLyers run is impressive, what few if any of the media coverage is mentioning are 2 key areas, Games Played and Goal differential . FLyers are 1 pt ahead of Columbus (who have the highest winning percentage in the NHL right now, with a .741% ) and 2 ahead of Capitals. But the Flyers have played 5 more games than the BlueJackets and 4 more than Washington, which is a possible 10 point swing. Also, their GD is weak at 8. You can't give up over 3 goals a game and expect success in the 2nd (real Season) which I don't expect they'll be a part of this year

Too many changes in the offseason hurt the team. You can't expect everything to stay the same with so many new faces. We know that all too well.

Slava Malamud @SlavaMalamud

10 KHL clubs owe salary to their players. Lada Togliatti hasn't paid a penny to anyone since Aug. The team no longer hires charter flights

Wonder if they get first class ox carts?

Just like that, Justin Williams on pace for 20 goals this season. 5 game goal streak (6 over those 5 games).

So the Habs will leave #2 in for 10 Goals, but when #1 is pulled, a whole ton of excuses for #1 getting pulled. Jokechise.

Anaheim up 3-1 on the Wings, lose 6-4. Should make people around here realize it happens to everyone and feel a lil better.

Ucks living up to their name - no D. After seeing the Wings put up nothing against the Kings, I thought they'd need 4 games to score 6 goals.

Noticing a lot of teams D, is awful.

Once the games tighten up, second half/Playoffs. A lot of teams are going to lose a lot of games.

Bruce Boudreau , just might be the greatest regular season coach ever.

It's amazing how well his teams play in the regular season, to just fall flat come playoff time.

He is incapable of making good adjustments as are necessary in a playoff situation where you face the same team at least four times. Coaching a series requires different skills from coaching a season.

Alright, who had the "current NHL franchise owner to be nominated for a Defense Department position" bet?

Not really, came down to bringing in Lucic for a year instead of re-signing Williams.

Came down to giving up Jones, a high-ish first round pick and not re-signing Williams for one season of Lucic and one playoff game victory.

If the options are re-sign him or do that trade, keeping Williams was the better option. Said it a hundred times on this board, but they make the playoffs all the same last season with Williams instead of Lucic, assuming full health.

They were losing Jones either way. He had little value to the Kings by that point. SJ could've signed him to a $3m offer sheet, there's no way the Kings could match, and they would've gotten one 2nd round pick as compensation.

The contract Williams had with the Kings, and got with the Caps, is about the same as what Kopitar got as a raise. If the Kings were offering 1 year at that money, and the Caps 2 years, most players are taking the 2 year deal.

That picked traded for Sekera was either in 2015, or 2016, depending on if the Kings made the playoffs in 2015. If they had, I don't think Lombardi trades the 2016 pick too. They miss the playoffs in 2015, they don't win the McDavid lottery, and then they see a situation where they can get a guy for a year, and then still give Kopitar his contract. On top of that, they do miss the playoffs in 2015, so 2016 is no lock, and that's the Matthews lottery. I think Lombardi felt he had to make the playoffs last year, because imagine the talk if Carolina wins the lottery with the Kings pick. Only another Cup would quiet that down.

The 14-15 season screwed up so many things. Should Lombardi have just taken that year in stride, no matter what? There's an argument for that. They would've had the 15 and 16 picks, and Miller, and a 2nd round pick for Jones. That's a better package deal than no Sekera, no Lucic, no 1st in 15 and 16, 0 playoff goals from Lucic, and 1 playoff win in 2 years. I guess unfortunately, the Kings were defending champs in 14-15, and sometimes you feel the need to go down swinging.

Something positive from all that. The guy everyone wanted the Kings to take in 2015, he's only got 1 goal this year. So there's that.

They could have made the money work this year RE: Year 2 of Williams. Lots of flotsam signed this off-season. You'd probably have to say bye to Lewis, however.

I know all of the reasoning behind the move and pretty much all of the moves. This is a 20/20 hindsight thing so, if my options are re-sign Williams or the Lucic trade, I'd prefer the former at this point. That is, of course, assuming Williams would of stayed for the same deal Washington gave him.

As for Connor, I don't think he would be on the NHL roster if the Kings took him with the first they traded.
