I think they have a respectable team. Not great, but they're not bottom feeders anymore.

I think their roster is better than the Panthers.

That said, I thought the Hall trade was dumb. I also think playing Puljujarvi in the NHL is foolish. McClellan is an overrated coach too.

They have completely mishandled Nurse as well.

Waivers: ERIC GELINAS COL

Wonder if he gets picked up, only 25 and with his injuries behind him, maybe a fresh start would help him. Sort of bounced around between teams the last couple yeas and esp with Jersey, lack of offense put pressure on d to produce.
STill think he's a fairly good d, if given the right situation and minutes, and cheap.

Gelinas has one of the best slap shots I've seen, but as time went on, teams seemed to take away his time/space to get it off. Defensively he was an adventure and it got to the point where he got used on wing for a few games since the Devils wanted him on the PP but couldn't trust him on defense.

His cap hit is a bit rough (~1.5 mil) for what he brings, so I'd expect that he clears waivers. But maybe another team can swap a similar contract. Alex Burmistrov/Peter Holland make similar amounts and appear to be out the door. Albeit Winnipeg already has a small army of #6-8 defensemen and Gelinas won't exactly solve Toronto's defensive woes.

Despite Brian Burke's over the top denials, I believe Bobby Mac's take that the Leafs are interested in Dougie Hamilton and the Flames are taking calls. Upgrading the Leafs d is essential for them, they have a good goalie and a boatload of young forward talent. And some pretty good prospects down on the farm they can pad a trade with.

Zach Werenski gets NHL Rookie of the Month, and well deserved. 10 pts I4 games and BJ's 9-2-3 I that span. Having watched most of them, or close to it, he's a stud in the making. So much to like about his game.

http://www.jacketscannon.com/2016/1...ki-named-nhl-rookie-of-the-month-for-november

Werenski is 18th among all NHL defenseman in CF/60 among those who have played 200 minutes or more, 13th among those with 300 minutes. In other words, he’s taking 12+ shots per sixty minutes he’s on the ice, which is pretty spectacular.

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Paul...HL-Rookie-of-the-Month-for-November/224/81045

Currently 16 pts in 21 games which puts him 6th among all NHL defensemen.

And as the article above points out, (with a chart to support) he's a whole lot more than a point producer, strong 2 way and improves the game of the players he's been on the ice with.

Werenski has been so more than just a point producer this season. He has stepped in onto the top pair alongside Seth Jones and has such an impact on the team. He currently leads the Jackets blue line with a 52.95% Corsi at 5 on 5, pointing to a strong two-way game. It’s not even like he is being carried by Jones either, when Jones was hurt Werenski did not suffer and more than held his own. Werenski has played over 100 minutes with five players this season and each one has seen a significant boost when alongside the rookie.

I know I was happy to get him in NHL 17

didn't see it anyone who is good at posting gifs have a gif of it?

He should get a call from the NHL on that, elevated and hit to the head. But the NHL isn't very consistent there.

Caps 1 pt ouf of 5th place....

Still can't believe they coughed up 2 2nd rounders for Eller. He was going to be there 'difference maker' on the 3rd line. (Sure as hell not in a playoff run, if they get that far, he's soft ) Watched too many Pens highlights. Eller isn't Bonino....Eller and his 3 pts , real difference maker.

Saw Dreger's tweet on this and found the link.
Props to the Minnesota HIgh School kid, 98 saves in a game.

In his four seasons as a starter for the Storm, Bruns routinely has made 40, 50, 60 and even 70-plus stops in a single game. So he didn’t even entertain the notion he was in the midst of what is believed to be a state- and national-record performance on Saturday in a season-opening 12-0 loss to Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato.

Routinely faces...wow...he hits the NHL and 30 will be a piece of cake.

impressive

Bruns’ remarkable career in terms of workload has gone relatively unheralded. He has finished among the Minnesota leaders in shots faced and saves each of the past three seasons, peaking at No. 3 in the state in both shots (1,018) and saves (888) in 2014-15.

From the ref:

“The guy played out of his mind,” Jones said about Bruns. “It was ridiculous. I was getting sore just watching him.”

Pierre LE Brun did an article yesterday on the merits the 3 pts for reg. win.

http://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/...ered-awarding-three-points-regulation-victory

The 3 pt reg win has been tossed around by the NHL since 2004 and has yet to find legs. He does have some good points on the 3 pts reg win would enable some teams to maintain playoff hopes longer than they do now.

So in this article, as of 12/1, the standings if this year, there was a 3-2-1-0 system in place.

http://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/18181794/nhl-how-standings-look-teams-got-three-points-win

Kings in 5th in the Pacific with 31 pts

Washington moved from 4th to 2nd in the Metro.

Bolts moved from 4th to 2nd

Jim Matheson in the Edmonton Journal on the Oils protection list.

That if they want to sign Russell, (which they should , he's played very well for them) they may opt to wait (get a verbal) until after the draft because it's unlikely the Knights would draft a UFA
They have Larrson, Sekera and Klefbom on D. SIgning him would mean they would only be able to protect 4 forwards...

He also mentions that the failing Avs ,might opt to make some changes, shopping Duschene and Landeskog. Cites the need for a quality D and Landeskog as bait.

I will laugh my ass off if Edmonton opts to protect Russell. He's worse than Greene. He's basically Scuderi level. I would not want him on any team I cheer for.

The thing is looking at capfriendly's expansion draft tool, they don't really have much to protect. Even protecting 4 forwards they are only losing a Pouliot, Letestu, or Davidson. No big deal.

Since every team in every game has the chance to at least get a point, it pretty much evens out over the course of a year. The better teams still win more often in regulation, and while that regulation tie point keeps a couple teams in the race a bit more, any team that relies on that 3v3 point over 82 games isn't going to do all that great.

If only the teams outside of the playoffs, or lower in the standings at any given time, could get that extra point in a game, that would be an issue. As long as the 1st place team, and 30th place team, can always get that point, it doesn't seem like that big of a problem.

Plus in the back rooms I don't think the league wants to give teams more possible points than other teams have had access to. If a team even gets close to that all time season record of Montreal, it's oh teams get to play 2 more games today than they did back then. You start putting 3 points for a reg w out there, and that record of 132 points is going to be broken, but they'll never be the team with the best ever record, even though they would be. Then the asterisk talk starts, and then more of the Bettman's league stuff, and none of that will ever end. Not that it does anyway.

Same reason I doubt we'll see the size of the goal increased. Someone breaks Gretzky's goal record(any of them) with an additional couple inches, or a foot, or whatever it would be, and the whining would be too much.

**NHL RUMOR**
Kings/Leafs/Jets/Wild all calling Islanders about availability of Travis Hamonic
Snow could start taking offers before #Xmas

Um... Don't know why the Jets would want another RHD, Buff/Trouba/Myers...
Wild could be interested in a LHD for RHD swap... don't they have like 50 LHD?

Snow will no doubt want Toffoli or Carter. Other then that, I'd be for it.

I doubt Trouba has changed his mind about wanting to be traded. He will almost definitely go if Winnipeg trades for Hamonic.

I have been on the 3 point wagon for a few years now. I hate that some games there are three total points awarded and some there are two. I would prefer to just scrap the shootout and go back to 2 points for a win a 1 for tie, but I don't see that ever happening so the 3 point is the next best thing.
