Williams and Mike Richards, at 7- 0 in game 7's were the only 2 athletes in pro sports history to boast that.

Now JW is 7-1

How many players even get to play seven Game 7's?

Check this link out for the records of each team in Game 7's.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NHL_game_sevens

The Sabres, Jets/Coyotes, and Senators are Game 7 chokers. The Capitals record in Game 7 is now 4-11.

Which team has the best Game 7 winning percentage? Minnesota Wild are 3-0 in Game 7's, followed by Tampa Bay at .714, and the Kings at .636.

Honestly, I think the back-to-back weak backhand attempts by Shattenkirk and then Ovechkin to clear the zone leading to the second Pittsburgh goal was the back breaker.

The NBC crew pointed it out, and I think they are correct.
iirc ovi's was kinda caught on a bounce so i have trouble faulting him for it, i think shattenkirk expected the puck to be covered which quite honestly was the obvious play. maybe its the years of safe kings hockey screaming at me but i never want my goalie moving the puck like that when there's any semblance of pressure

How old is Lucic? 28 years old

How much more evidence is required to convince people the average NHL forward's peak production years are between the ages of 23 - 27?

Yet GMs continue to hand out ridiculous contracts hoping their guy is the next Gordie Howe.

I'm not sure how many people don't get that, but that's not why guys older than that get the contracts that they do. It's the pressures of free agency, and GM's not wanting to lose their job because they didn't do something. It's easy to say let some other GM pay the big money. If this many GM's keep doing the same thing though, I don't think it's because they're all dumb. It's just the way the system works.

Which GM has consistently cycled out the 27+ year old players, for -23 players who haven't gotten the big contract yet, and kept on winning? I think every GM would love to be able to do that, but of course not every GM can, because if they all try the same thing, it's going to cause an issue for all of them in trying to get that thing done. Everyone wants more bang for their buck, but they have to deal with those guaranteed contracts, which you dislike. Then don't spend that money stupidly, but they almost have to. They work with what they have, and since they have to spend a certain amount every year, and most GM's are trying to be competitive, guys get paid.

More than just Game 7's, Richards is the only guy that's been on 2 teams that came back from down 0-3.

It's also because this doesn't work like an NHL video game. Your 90s don't magically turn into 85s at the exact same curve, and when you tank, you don't automatically get rewarded with 99s, you can get Nail Yakupov. THere's a LOT more uncertainty to the process than people ever give it credit for.

Also, the ages of many (most?) cup winners show us that 'peak production' isn't the be all end all. TO is out. EDM is out. Calgary is way out.

Stars trying far too hard. Snarky Tweets don't work when you've been eliminated for three months.

I like their sense of humor. Why not have a little fun in the off season?

And looking at their list, they should improve quite a bit, and they may have an easier time passing the Kings next season.

If the Kings only had so much upcoming potential for the roster.

I was at the game last night. Lucic ran through the handshake line as fast as he could without looking at anyone in the eyes until he got to Perry/Getzlaf, who I thought he disliked, but they hugged it out. I will have to check back junior stats to see if there is a connection?

Or he spent a lot of time at their BBQs while on the Kings.

Yes, but wasn't Richards the only one that played in both the comeback series because Carter was injured for the first?

In hindsight, it would've been wiser to keep Williams instead of trading for Lucic, even if he was slowing down. At least he doesn't make boneheaded plays that hurt the team due to a short temper. Also, leadership skillz.

I'm not so sure. He really struggle at times in his final year as a King, and while he played better as a Cap in an more offensive system, he struggled there too. Had he stayed, he'd have been criticized as much as anyone this season for lack of scoring.

Anyone else think LA ends up with Ryan Miller as a back up?

I thought DL would pick him over Bishop honestly.

I was at the game after the deadline against the Canucks and thought that Miller played with a purpose.

I remember being pissed that LA lost such a pivotal game against the nucks.

Not to mention all the turnovers he had with the Kings too. Dangle, dangle, dangle, lose it. Happened all the time.

I don't think Carter played the game 7. I thought he was in the series, but got hurt in the middle of it.

No, he missed that entire series. Technically, we're both right in our own ways. On the roster, but wasn't physically part of the comeback.

Williams got a 2 year deal. That 2nd year was Kopitar's first year with his new big contract. The cap hit for Williams was just about the same as the raise Kopitar got for his cap hit. Lucic, at 50%, was about the same cap hit as Williams, and the same cap hit as Kopitar's raise.

If Williams would've come back for 1 year at $3m, it could've worked out. But who would take a 1y/3m deal, if you could get a 2y/6m deal instead? That's one of the reasons Mitchell signed with the Kings. The Kings offered an additional year, and more guaranteed money, for a guy coming off a concussion, than either the Sharks or Caps, who I think were the other teams in the running.
