Lucic was a liability on most of his shifts, and he'll get worse moving forward. The salary cap saved Dean Lombardi from doing something stupid and retaining Lucic with another regrettable contract. Thankfully Chiarelli was there to offer him and even dumber contract.

Why did McDavid make that pass at the end there? He's at the top of the slot with the puck and guys skating toward the net. Gotta take a shot there.

not sure either. passed it right into someone skate and it was game over. He had ZERO point in the last two games, which was pretty surprising.

Glad the Ducks beat Edmonton. It took that organization how many first over all picks just to make the playoffs???

Now that's over so GO Preds!!!!

The Kings missed the playoffs for six consecutive seasons and didn't turn things around until a certain #2 overall pick saved their *****. It's the way the system is, plus, most of those first rounders have been pretty subpar with the exception of McDavid and Draisaitl.

Those fans have suffered long enough through crappy ownership to inept management. Something us Kings fans are all too familiar with.

Don't care how good McDavid and Draisaitl are, they were not overcoming this long term:

Pouliot: 13 games, 0 goals, 4 million cap
Eberle: 13 games, 0 goals, 6 million cap
RNH: 13 games, 0 goals, 6 million cap
Lucic: 13 games, 2 goals, boneheaded mistakes and positioning, 6 million cap hit

And how about that Larsson trade? He was incredibly strong this season for the Oilers and stabilized that defense.

Any trade where a team gets something meeting a need they can't fill from within using a duplicate asset is a good one. The Oilers did it with the Larsson / Hall trade.

I expect they will now move at least one of Nugent-Hopkins or Eberle, or maybe both. Do that may provide them with the cap space they need for Draisaitl and McDavid, as well as provide them some decent futures.

Eberle & Pouliot are both gone after next season.

1 ES point for both Eberle and RNH. 0 ES goals for Lucic. McDavid with just 4 ES points.

In Lucic's last 23 playoff games, he has 0 goals at ES, and just 2 total goals, both on the PP. Before that, he had 26 career playoff goals, with only 3 on the PP.

How old is Lucic? 28 years old

How much more evidence is required to convince people the average NHL forward's peak production years are between the ages of 23 - 27?

Yet GMs continue to hand out ridiculous contracts hoping their guy is the next Gordie Howe.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=2378

Howe at 23 years old: 33 g, 48 a, 81 pts in 70 games

Howe at 30 years old: 32 g, 48 a, 80 pts in 70 games

Howe at 40 years old: 44 g, 59 a, 103 pts in 76 games

The guy was a freak, and the chances of any of these players getting these monster contracts and producing full value are very slim.

I agree with you but I dunno about the Howe comparison, totally different era of hockey.

I'd look more toward someone like a Jagr as a comparable.

I don't think the era matters when we are discussing sustained performance.

By the time Howe was 40 years of age the NHL was much more wide open to be sure, but at 40 years of age his performance was on par with his performance when he was 23 years old.

Jagr is also a freak, but even he doesn't come close to Howe.

That was a good decision by Chiarelli. He sought out Larsson. I saw alot of Larsson due to the Devils being in the Metro, and I always felt they rushed him up. He came right from Juniors and was put in a position that he wasn't ready for , and on a team that struggled for goals. I think it screwed up his development. With the Oilers, his role is entirely different and less pressure to provide offense.
And as the year went on and he adjusted to his assignments and relaxed, his game improved.
I thought he was very good throughout the playoffs. HIs confidence grew with every shift.
He'll continue to get better and bodes well for the Oilers, he's only 24 , signed for 4 more years at 4M.
Nurse is only 22, Klefbom, 23 , Benning 22
Good crop growing there.

Disagree. I thought Marner, Matthews, Nylander and Hyman were very good for the Leafs
