Wouldn't change a thing considering what we eventually got out of it, but boy do I miss Night Train...

As a 23 year old Kings fan who was too young to remember Gretz and Mario's glory years... McDavid is the best player I've ever seen in my life. Absolutely ridiculous, on a completely different level. Thank god we have 1 of maybe 3 players who even have a sliver of a chance to contain him.

Similar vibe really, even more so than young Crosby. If he's on the ice, everyone is on their feet.

He's Pavel Bure, but a playmaker too. Just total insanity and I want to watch every single game.

Jordan Weal is playing a solid game for the Flyers tonight, still don’t think he got a fair chance here.

Hard to get a chance when the coach put you on the 4th line, then benches you for 10 games when you miss a check. Oh yeah then there was this: he gets called up, flown across the country with his family for the last game of the season only to be healthy scratched.

Glad he's showing Philly what he can do.

So is he. He's hustling every shift, fast , and great hands. He and Patrick have formed a nice niche on ice together, using that speed and skill. (and Konecky when he's lucky enough to be on the 2nd line where belongs. All 3 were very good together) And Weal was grateful for the chance, saying (reg shifts every game , top 6) that's all he wanted was a chance to play. And play he can. Hextall said he knew exactly who he was getting when that trade was made.

Geez, McDavid starting the season on fire.

I've been watching hockey for over 40 yrs and he's the fastest player I've ever seen. He just flies out there and so skilled. I love watching him , like Lemieux when was playing, you just couldn't take your eyes off of him. Score would have been a lot higher last night if not for Smith, who was excellent, Oilers peppered him with over 40 shots, he kept that score at 1-0 for a long time.

That goal last night that started from below his own circle was something else. He looks even FASTER if that's possible. He absolutely DUSTED Brodie, who is a great enough skater that he's compared to Keith's skating frequently. Just total insanity. Would LOVE him to be the generational player that shows it's possible to be head and shoulders over everyone else right now. Not that Crosby wasn't/isn't.

If WPG continues to play that lifeless into November they should Fire the coach and Hire Sutter.

Disagree on the Jets playing lifeless last night. They ran into a hot goalie , esp in the 1st, when they had a bunch of PP's. Leafs were in midseason form, and Mason laid an egg (he's a good goalie who had a bad game, he'll be good for them) and Laine is just going to explode, unreal talent, best sniper in the NHL in years.

Bunch of games on tonight but I think the Sabres Habs game will be fun. Drouin has adjusted to center quite well and he'll be fired up. But last year I saw the roots forming on the Sabres as a young team on the rise, and I think this year they'll be a fast team and fun to watch. Eichel is really pumped up for this year and said he worked hard all summer to improve his gamel. And getting Ryan OReilly was huge for them, not only as a good top center but the leadership he's brought, he's really made a difference.
Pretty decent top 9
Kane - Eichel- Pomenville
Pouliot- ROR- Okposo
Girgensons-Reinhart-Griffith

And Nolan of the 4th line, I think that is a great add for them.

Both SJ and PHI might live and die by special teams this year. That's pretty common for the Flyers, they haven't been a good 5v5 team recently. They have the 2nd most pp goals of any team over the 3 years prior, and over the same span are 27th 5v5. But they are highly entertaining to watch, especially on the PP. They play such a chaotic style compared to what we are used to seeing here, almost 80s like.

Even though it's early, I get the sense that it's going to be much different for SJ this year. They were pretty sharp last night, but I don't see them controlling play against better teams as has been their trademark over recent seasons.

What sets McDavid apart is his ability to control the puck at high speeds. There's been many fast players through out league history, but it's extremely difficult to maintain your skill set at top skating speed. McDavid is the best at it I've ever seen.

Because his game is so reliant on speed, I wonder how effective he'll be as he ages.

Oh, he is faster this season. The oilers coach admitted McDavid worked on his speed this offseason.

He had the entire right half of the ice wide open to skate down. Call me a hater if you want, but everyone needs to pump the brakes for a minute on this kid. He's great, no doubt, but better than Lemieux? Please. Maybe for the 15 and under crowd that never saw him play.

The comparisons to Bure in that regard are genuine. He really doesn't lose any of his ability at top speed, which is impressive. He's also one toepick away from going legs first into the boards, so you never know. Not like he hasn't already broken a bone in that regard in his long and storied 2 year career.
