Liven up the games by taking a shot every time there's a penalty.

Just make sure your insurance is up to date before hand.

Roll everything back to the 80s and 90s and I'd be a happy man. Face washes, scrums, obstruction. Bring it on.

Nothing like watching those high skilled guys pass the puck back and forth for an entire minute with very little skating going on.

Playoff hockey is better because the stakes are higher, of course, but it is also better when it gets into the 3rd period and they put the whistles away.

Regardless...there isn't a problem and the league is creating one. It's already a farce that the sticks break so easy now that you get two minutes for barely slashing a guys stick a foot-and-a-half away from his hands. It's called being strong on your stick.

Didn't think I'd have to only be 37 years old to be a "get off my lawn guy" but my goodness what a bunch of soft ****s the NHL has become.

I'm 34 and feel that way too.

I don't think you remember the 80's very well. You could hook your arm under another guy's arm from behind and drag him down with no penalty. I have no desire to watch tackle football out there. The players need to get their **** together and stop taking penalties.

Yeah, I think people are conflating contact hockey with obstruction hockey.

There is really nothing fun watching hands get hooked and slashed to the point of losing puck control. The skill players can't make skill plays, and while the clock may be moving, the game is still losing flow and fluidity.

The players need to learn to keep their sticks on the ice to avoid hooking and slashing penalties. If you are in position, that is where your stick needs to be when a player is in a good defensive position. Having your stick on the ice doesn't eliminate physical hockey.

Bottom line: anytime a defending player's stick isn't on the ice the refs are going to pay very close attention as to how it is being used.

I have to admit I don't like some of the stick on stick calls though. Lifting an opponent's stick or controlling an opponent's stick with your stick is part of the physical aspect of good defense.

I agree 100%

Refs will be overkill at the start of the year. And from the preseason games I've seen, there will be a good share of 5 on 3's. And the increase in PP's, causes disruption to lines, 5 x5 play, so a lot will be affected. Every game I saw was whistle crazy. Too many years of playing one way and that change will take a month or so, i think, until the players adjust. And the faceoff violations too, that will delay the games.

Fabbri out for the season. Dang. Same knee. Hope he fully recovers.

His loss will hurt the Blues a bit.

The Blues are in a tough spot, starting the year with players out. In addition to Fabbri (which is a huge loss), they have Steen to be re-evaluated at the start of the season with Bouwmeester about a week later. Berglund and Zach Sanford are out for months. I'm not sure if they'll reach out for short term help, but given the competition in that division, they can't afford to fall behind early in the year. From what The St Louis Dispatch reported, Stasney will be centering the top line and Schenn line 2, 3rd line up for grabs.

Josh Anderson has requested a trade out of CBJ.

Sucks for the Jackets. He's a solid young power forward who in my opinion has not reached he full potential.

It is a jarring change considering how long it stuck with the previous format. Could have at least kept the gray bg. It was easier on the eyes.

I don't mind it except for all the wasted space. A one line reply takes of 25% of the page. Also quotes need to be a different color background. Otherwise, this site was long overdue for an upgrade.

League approves a change to the Coach's offside challenge , instead of losing a time out, if the decision goes against them, the team gets a 2 minute penalty.

" b) If the result of the challenge is that the play was on-side, the goal shall count and the team that issues the challenge shall be assessed a minor penalty for delaying the game"
