Kind of expected this, Doan retires after 21 seasons...about as fierce as they came.

Good. Now that he's off the ice I'm sure he'll be more likeable. One of the most underratedly dirty players in the game. Great career, though. And can definitely respect/appreciate his entire career with one franchise.

He's always around in my town. Really kind guy in person. Loves his wine. I think he even has investments in the WHL Kamloops Blazers (and one of the wineries here!) if I'm not mistaken.

Eh I mean you can respect it, but it would be safe to say it was a stupid decision.

Kevin Allen on why the Avs haven't traded Duchene yet (and if true, would support Elliotte Friedman saying over the summer that GM's told him Sakic is 'looking for a unicorn)
he said (which I have heard from other areas) Columbus is pushing hard for Duchene . (Canes and Habs as well) Pens were interested, too I heard.

Sakic should be fired...

Know they have tried. Avs want big return: 1st rounder, quality young defenseman, proven NHLer and top prospect. Murray? Jenner?

Sakic wants everything and the kitchen sink. No way the guy is worth that.

And it's a shame for Duchene, he played he good soldier most of last year, every town they played in, mic's in his face and questions on being traded . And that did present a distraction in the locker room. With Landy as well. Now Duchene has to go to camp with the same atmosphere.
He's a good center, a good teammate, and its a shame Sakic doesn't have a clue. He's going to price himself out of the market.
Not good for the team, or the locker room. And the so called owners are even more of a disgrace, letting it go this far. Have some pride in the logo...

Sakic will be forced to trade him at some point or lose him for nothing. He's not resigning there.

If he's not traded this year, his trade value will drop.

Wait, is that FOUR things he wants?! WTF....?

Here....

01) Our 2018 1st round pick

02) Jacob Moverare

03) Jake Muzzin

04) Michael Mersch (probably NHL-ready, *BUT* it's team-dependent-ready. I.e., if he's not ready for the Kings, he most likely will be ready for the Avs.)

And if Blake believes we still own the rights to Kubalik and Prokhorkin, then add those in, too. And if that's not an acceptable deal then, yeah, Sakic should be fired.

:yo:

There is no reason to trade the Kings 2018 1st round pick. It could turn out to be a top ten pick.

1) Do you really see us as being in the League's 10 worst? :amazed:

2) IMHO, we're still in the Cup window. Acquiring Duchene might be like acquiring Richards all over again (lol, in terms of Cups, not in terms of a dramatic decline 1.5 years after acquisition  ) I'm thinking getting Duchene is the right thing to do.

I don't see Moverare or Muzzin as defensemen fitting the description of what Sakic is looking for in a trade for Duchene, and adding Mersch wouldn't entice him to make the trade.

Other teams have already offered more.

Other than the 1st rounder, not doable, asset wise, not the high end that most of the interested teams have. Sakic (who appears to have no idea what he's doing) turned down the Isles offer that included Hamonic and 2 1sts and also at least one (and reportedly more) of the Canes offers that included Faulk. But I do think Muzzin could be packaged for a winger, a top 6er, which I think DL wanted to do and Blake might, depending on how the season goes. You get that forward in the 25 yr old range and he's got experience already to fit in now and young enough to be part of the future core.

I'd rather sign Vanek for 1 year and see what he can do with Kopitar than trade Muzzin and a 1st for Duchesne.

I think the point Dee is making is Muzzin and a 1st won't even get Sakic to pick up the phone.

The Kings have nothing the Avs want, when it comes to a trade for Matt Duchene.

Pretty neat photo, a farm in New Brunswick sporting a huge corn maze (2 and 1/2 miles) that celebrates the 100th anniversary of the NHL and Matthews and Marner. The Hunter brothers, are in their mid 60's and have been doing NHL mazes in the field since 2003.

Will be open to the public soon.

Along the way, fans will be able to take part in a multiple-choice trivia game, with 10 question stations scattered (and well-hidden) throughout the maze. Each station tests the knowledge of casual and hard-core fans with questions about topics such as training camp and the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with additional nickname- and player number-matching activities featured on the maze's observation bridge.

They would probably do that. I get what you are saying but the Kings do have things the Avs would want: the Kings are not in a position to give them up, however.

To be fair, nobody in the league is really in a position to give up what Sakic is asking for, hence why Duchene is still an Av. He is going to need to remove one of the requested pieces.

He'd get plenty of traction if it is a 1st round pick/young quality defenseman/good prospect. Or he can just ride Duchene out on a garbage team and wind up getting nothing for him when he walks.

He'd probably get more at the deadline in the way of futures when teams with Cup hopes feel like Duchene would push them over the top. Teams don't have a reason right now to meet Sakic's demands or even come close.

Vanek is headed for Detroit or Vancouver , most likely and would not help the Kings, nor were they interested in him as Cammy was their 'skate in the waning years' signing. A true top 6 addition to help the scoring up front should come thru a trade and under age 26 or so, something that would really benefit them.

Muzzin and a 1st won't get you Duchene, so that's not a problem.

Fair point, and I agree. Given the position the Kings find themselves, that would be too much to give for Duchene.
