Gonna really suck if we don't see playoff Kopitar :(

Such a waste of an amazing season. I’m disappointed for him that the rest of the slackers on the team didn’t carry their weight. It’s been only a very small group that has consistently performed well.

The lack of secondary scoring support is going be the reason why this team may miss the post season for the third time in four years. One playoff game won and only five playoff games played in a four year span... that’s simply unacceptable and inexcusable.

I've said it since day 1 of this season...if they can't make the playoffs with a core of Kopitar, Doughty and Quick....then trade them all and do a complete rebuild. Why in the hell waste money on these players if we aren't playing in the post season?

I think some serious consideration will be given to trading Doughty, it may not be at the draft but hypothetically if the Kings are a bubble team again next year at the deadline and someone like Toronto or Nashville comes in with an offer that blows your socks off how do you say no?

This group accomplished a lot here but the reality is 18, 17, 16 and 15 is a lot more recent than 12, 13, 14.

Believe it or not, I'm close to that point as well. I mean, maybe not necessarily trading Kopitar or Doughty because I've made it well-known I'm happy watching them retire Kings, but major shakeup trades for several reasons. The biggest reason is there are no excuses to lose at this point--we have arguably the most favorable schedule and everyone just about fully healthy. If we would have tanked before Carter's return in such a way that it prevented us a shot, that's one thing--but we stayed alive until now so failure at THIS point is just outright failure. The second reason is just to start a culture change with a dramatic chemistry shakeup--you can have good players and not be a good team for a variety of reasons. Why can't Brent Burns play with Vlasic? Theoretically, they're perfect partners, but together, they're somehow a train wreck. Muzzin and Martinez as well. The third is we are in a division where we will be WELL behind the rebuilds going on (Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Arizona), so it's nice ot wait for them to get a LITTLE stronger before we go scorched earth, but their improvements will ensure we ACTUALLY tank instead of just be a bad team, heh.

This season still has to play out and I have hope and faith, but to me, the biggest factor would be that if this group can't play at a 98 point pace with a preferential schedule and everything pretty much in their favor, then this group needs to change. (though I say that fully aware that they HAVE been playing at the desired pace, it's just the configuration of points gains over the last few games that has everyone up in arms)

Things just turning worse and worse for the Kings.

The Kings are going to have a tough time making the playoffs if they can't win Friday vs. Anaheim.

They have to get to Friday first. With no reason to expect anything in the next 2 games. They could just as easily not show up as play with a sense of purpose and urgency at home in must win games against division teams that are below them in the standings. It's one shift at a time with the Kings. Friday might as well not exist right now. They even have a 2 day break between tonight and Thursday. They might be rusty after that. They might be too tired tonight though.

One tiny shift at a time.

This might be the rare year, on top of that, that 97 points is not enough either. No one would have guessed the Blues would win 5 straight a few games ago, or that Dallas would just wither and die.

Really just have to win, and almost win out, to be sure. That might be the best thing for this team anyway.

Sell at the deadline, and then go on a run to make the playoffs. The Blues are doing this same thing for a 2nd year in a row. If you want a team playing moneyball, there you go.

If they get in, cool you never know what could happen. If they don't, it damn well better speed up a retool/rebuild. Trying to look at the positives.

If they miss the playoffs again, I don't care who they trade, or what they trade them for. Sell low on all of them.

The sad reality is the Kings just have a really flawed roster, and most of that has to do with mistakes made involving the draft from 2009-2016. Whether that was trading picks or drafting the wrong player it is the single biggest reason for the Kings lack of secondary scoring, and that is the biggest reason the Kings are in the spot they are right now despite having Kopitar and Doughty in their primes. No one has been able to replace Gaborik and Williams, Carter replaced Richards but then that opened up another huge hole on the wing.

The Kings have horrible wing talent at the NHL level and in the pipeline, just don't see how a team can win a Stanley Cup when your three best wingers are Brown, Toffoli and Pearson. It just shows the complete and total incompetence of the previous regime towards the end. The Kings need a miracle, something like Valardi coming in and playing like Kopi did as a 19 year old and then putting Carter back on the wing.

Im curious what Toffoli will be traded for, personally think its a matter of when not if. A scorer, but not a timely scorer.

Agree, I don't know what you can get for him, and at this point if we had to trade one and keep one, trade Toffoli, keep Pearson, Pearson is giving the effort on the boards.

Problem is, are you going to get full value back for Toffoli? You don't trade him for a pick....you can't do that

Or stick him with Kopi. It worked a couple years ago.

Id do Toffoli, 2nd, prospect for Pacioretty with an extension.

Commentary on that goaltending Sol, Drivesaitl?

This was addressed to me so I'll respond to it. Not sure why the comment. A few points;

Gibson made several spectacular saves including one of the best sequences you'll see all year. Certainly something you won't see with Quick now. 5 lightning fast saves in a row which was incredible.

Gibson Stoned Draisaitl 4 times before the one timer goal he had no chance on. 2 others were one timers, another was a perfect deflection. Drai is no slouch either in the scoring department.

The Oilers absolutely dominated the Ducks in the 2nd period and Gibson was the only reason the Ducks were still in the game. Should've been 5 or 6-1 at that point. We're talking a goalie that looked so good it was causing shots wide from players that figured they needed the perfect shot to beat him.

What goal do you think was bad? First goal McD shoots perfectly off the screen blocker side. Perfectly placed shot inside the post and also while skating fast and changing the angle. How many goalies stop that puck, that was screened, that they can't see?

2nd Ty Rattie tip in close. You gonna say that was a bad goal?

3rd Drasaitl perfectly placed one time bomb. That shot was so hot it could burn through the netting. Drai has an exceptional one timer. Again Gibson had a miraculous save on another of those.

4th McD Nirvana and perfect finish from Bear. Nobody is getting to that one. You can't cheat off McD, obviously, Nuge is in the slot, and Bear breaking open. A goalies nightmare there.

In anycase sorry for the Oilers loss. Talbot wasn't great but Ducks had the luck of 3 tipped in goals in the game. I'm still wondering about the last one. What was that even? A blind hope centering puck? Damn thing must have been tipped twice as it was 3 feet into the air. Or were the Ducks trying for a blind luck deflection with a minute left that somehow perfectly finds twine.

Given the schedule and playing both the Ducks and AV's still the Kings still can control their destiny but its tight all the way now. Better luck the rest of the way.

Gaudreau is out tonight for personal reseasons. If the kings **** up tonight they don't deserve to make the playoffs.
Gaudreau, Monahan, Brodie, Chucky are all out. Heard a rumour on our boards his father (Johnny) suffered a heart attack. This is just rumor though. THis game should be an easy one for you guys. get those f***ing Ducks out of the playoff spot please.

Hoping that's just a rumor. That would really suck.

And we're f***ed.
