On today's NHL Now , everyones favorite tv hack Tyson Nash blames the loss vs the Croyotes on Doughty when he iced the puck. He called it a selfish play by a guy trying to pad his stats and if he had done it, he'd never see the ice again. He later went on to say if the Kings miss the playoffs by a point , it's because of that. He played in the NHL at one time, right...because nobody can be that clueless?

What an idiot!

Umm, he' s absolutely right, it was selfish...and probably something Doughty was taught not to do in Pee Wee hockey. So who's the idiot?

I have no idea why Sharks fans would want the Kings out of the playoffs.

The Sharks matchup incredibly well against the Kings, I think a matchup with the Kings would be way more beneficial to them than the Blues.

Because there's still some myth that the Kings are this big heavy team that'll punish you and can flip the switch at any time. That myth has been proven wrong the last 3 seasons.

Correct,

The Kings haven't played (Kings Hockey) since 2014.

The Kings core is done.

They won Two Cups though, that's two more than a whole lot of other cores.

Blues vs Yoyes
Flames vs Stars
Oilers vs Nucks

Be interesting to see the contrast of results with Kings when teams that want to make the playoff will win these games.

...and you know there is absolutely nothing wrong with admitting this and moving on.

There are teams out there trying to take the final step to the top of the mountain. These teams would give a lot to get some of the assets the Kings possess.

I don't see the logic in hanging on to these depreciating assets if the best it will do is make the Kings no better than a 2nd round loser. Edmonton and Calgary are on the upswing. It looks like their GMs have figured it out and have the right personnel to be at the top of the Pacific Division for a while.

The Kings can remain competitive, but is competitive what we are looking for?

I would like to see another championship team built. As frustrating as some of the growing pains were from 2008 to 2012, I enjoyed watching the building process very much. Much more than watching a team in a slow decline.

I can understand not wanting to give up yet. It took 40+ years to get where we are, and it took drafting a franchise goalie in the 3rd round, a number 1 center at #11, and some crazy ass trades (Richards, Carter, Gaborik) and UFA signings (Mitchell, Regher) to do it . How often does that happen?

I can also understand wanting to cut bait before there's nothing else to help kickstart the next wave, but how many GMs have been successful with that? We act like multiple cups with one core and then more cups with another core is a normal thing, and it's not. If DL can't figure out a way to supplement who we have to get us back to the top of the mountain again soon, it is likely going to be a LONG time before that happens again.

Doughty was clearing the puck, from behind the goal line, not trying to "pad his stats" as he claimed by being selfish and trying to score. He didn't even look up when he shot it down the ice.Nobody expect to score from there, not even Crosby. Nash is still an idiot, no matter what.

Agree on Nash but disagree on the rest. Love Doughty, and he's not selfish but that was a foolish thing to do a bit lazy. He was trying to hit the net , by clearing the puck down the center of the ice and shooting hit hard. If he was not trying to hit the net, he would have rimmed it around the boards or skated it out a bit and not shot as hard, so it wouldn't be icing. He's too smart to ice the puck with less than a minute. He was aiming for the net or he wouldn't have shot it down the middle that hard.

He doesn't have a selfish bone in his body, he took a risk, he gambled and it cost them. If it goes in, he's the hero. It's not the first time he's tried that and it won't be the last.

The thing is, the puck would've gone in if not for one the luckiest bounces ever.

The other question to ask is "how many GMs get to do that and then tear it down/rebuild while still tenured?" It's not gonna happen under DL. Even if it were the smartest thing to do, it's current-position-suicide. And even then, as I've said, we trade these players and then we pray we get...players just like them? And look at how long some franchises have been waiting...

I'd have to rewatch it so I'm not too invested in either thing but my memory was that was the only clearing option anyway because people were on the boards ready to eat the puck.

I can't re-watch it, but I don't buy that based off my memory. Even if people are on the boards, you still try to chip it out. Doughty was behind the goal line off the right. Minimal pressure and a lot of real-estate in the middle of the ice. He could have lobbed it.

It's still not a chance you take at the end of the game with a one goal lead and you have tired teammates on the ice.

yeah, it is

When you're not winning games, taking a shot at the EN is no big deal.

And that icing didn't make them lose the faceoff.

The Kings suck when they're ahead or behind late in a game, you'd think that would change once in a while... still hoping.

Holding onto leads is a big deal when you're not winning games. Unnecessary risks helps with holding onto leads.

Seriously, would you have defended that play if Muzzin, McNabb, or Lewis tried that? Citing it's no big deal?

So, how likely is it that the Blues will make like the Kings and squander away two points against the Coyotes tonight?

Doubt the Yotes will even try as hard, pretty sure theres more emotional motivation for the Coyotes to knock the Kings out of the playoffs than the Blues

If it were Muzzin, this board would have crashed, haha.

But let's be real, Doughty gets a slight benefit of the doubt because he's doing much, much more positive than negative.

Yep. If the Avs had the pride the Yotes had, I'd say Avs:Blues::Yotes:Us, but can't count on that either. Divisional stuff means more to some teams but yeah bunch of creampuffs.

Doughty doing it is more forgiveable because of what he brings, I agree. But it's forgiveable, because it requires forgiveness; he screwed up. He should have made the safer and smarter play.

I have zero problems with this play. Can't go backhand along the board because I coyotes coming, can't go forehand along the boards because there's another coyote coming and a 3rd standing on the half wall. Kempe's marked, Brown's not an option. The only other option is to give it to Pearson who's standing directly in front of the net, but that's not likely any safer of a play. So he one-time flips it over the 2 defenders on the blue line.

Can't possibly pick that play out as the one that lost us the game.

Source. Might be worth bookmarking this guy if you want to find specific plays.

It's all situational. If the Kings weren't where they are in the standings, nobody would care. If the puck went in, nobody would care. If the puck doesn't bounce the wrong way after the faceoff, nobody would care. Winning will always cure all, and that bounce is the kind of bounce that happens when the majority of bounces haven't gone your way all year.

Blues lead 2-0. Looks like they'll be able to handle the Coyotes, unlike the Kings. With a win, they'll have a 6-point lead over the Kings for the last wild card spot.

Better get those draft party plans started.

Nashville lost. Tougher schedule than St.Louis. They might be the team to catch, should the Kings win enough.

The Blues have an 11 game win streak against the Yotes, and most likely be 12 after tonight.
