It is pretty ridiculous that we're talking about a team needing to be blown up when they've been in the "blow up the team" stage for 10 years.

The Oilers need to rebuild the rebuild of their rebuild.

i know beating a dead horse...but how many 1st OA picks do they need...my gawd!! Deal the high picks for defence and goal-tending, this patch work of talbot/skera/ferrence is a flawed plan. their refusal to deal their forwards is mindblowing.

that was the old regime. The new group will deal either Eberle or RNH this off season. They gave the group of forwards one year to see what they had. I think an in season trade would have been likely but first Eberle was injured, than McDavind, now RNH. So it made it hard.

I think the oilers will be in on Hamhuis and Yandle as free agents. Both make sense. Also they will be in on Hamonic who will likley be moved this offseason.

I would be shocked if they actually use their pick on a forward however I think they should draft Olli Juolevi if they keep it. he will be the top d-man taken IMO and will likely be available wherever they pick.

Talbot is not a #1 IMO, and they should maybe kick the tires on Ward (Alberta Native), but he may price himself out. Howard could make sense to if Detroit takes back a bad contract.

The previous regime tried, but can't do much if the fish refuses the bait. They wanted Schneider from Vancouver and offered more than what the Devils gave up. Vancouver got skittish about moving him within the division.

Trading for a D is tough. I don't know of many clubs who would move an established D for an Eberle/Yakupov. They were kicking the tires on Seth Jones, but Nashville might preferred Johansen to RNH.

Edmonton's not exactly the hottest destination for free agents either. Whenever the media does that informal poll of locations where players wouldn't want to sign, Edmonton's usually mentioned.

If they have a top 3 pick, I'd still pick Laine/Puljujarvi and then work to deal Eberle/Yakupov/RNH for help. You hate to pass on a better forward because you need defense. A non-blue chip 18 year old defender isn't going to turn things around overnight there.

Or worst case, they could trade down a few spots and draft Chychrun/Juolevi while adding an extra pick which they could pedal for immediate help. You'd hate to pass on one of those forwards and pick out of need.

Howard's got a NTC and I'm not sure if he'd waive that for Edmonton. Frederik Andersen might be the guy I'd target if I were them.

Maintenance for Andrew Ladd.

Lunchtime podcast still suggesting that Hawks are the frontrunner with the Cats and Ducks . Also mentioned Caps as a newly interested darkhorse.

FYI - Richards charges stayed.
Could be dropped in a year if he stays out of trouble.

Drug charge against Mike Richards stayed http://*******/1Q10QGo

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sp...-drug-possession-charge-stayed-369979641.html

Insufficient evidence...
. If new evidence comes to light within a year, the charges can be brought back to court. After a year, the case is considered closed.

Pretty much what MR's lawyer suspected when whatever he found in his initial investigation, that caused him to request of the Crown a delay to feb (in dec) because of something he wanted investigated further, I guess whatever it was the judge agreed.
Brian MacLellan, Caps GM, hinted at that when they signed him, that based on what they found out regarding the case, they were confident nothing would come of it.

According to the press release from his attorney, there were 'fatal defects' in the prosecutions case.

http://www.csnmidatlantic.com/hocke...talk/richards-gratified-canadian-court-ruling

After the Crown brief was disclosed to the defence, Mr. Richards’ counsel advised the Crown of fatal defects in the prosecution case. The Crown and defense agreed that follow-up investigation was warranted. That investigation has been completed and the Crown decided to stay the charge, thereby ending prosecution.
Anyway, it's over, which is a good thing.

I would LAUGH MY F**** @SS OFF of the Oilers get the #1 overall again. And watch they will.:laugh::laugh: I've said it many times before I don't want the Oilers to figure it out cuz that team gots mad load of talent. Especially with McJesus and Matthews on the same team.

They'll be trading some of that talent and I think the Leafs will end up with that 1st.
Surprised to see that the Jets are 3rd , only 4 pts from the 30th spot. Could be they end up with the #1
McDavid being back should win them more games than the Leafs, who if the rumors are right, the 'talking heads' predictions, won't have many players on Tuesday.

League needs to change the lottery system...stop rewarding bad teams. Should be a fairer way, like pulling a team from the top 10 in the first 5 slots.
Something has to change...

Who exactly is running the Wild?

[Former NHL coach Adam Oates was hired before the season by several players as a personal coach; two of the players were Zach Parise and Ryan Suter of the Wild.] When you say things never felt right, did this start with the Adam Oates stuff? “Yeah. I thought we dealt with it. We talked with Zach, and we had no issues with it after that. And talked with some players, and … Whether it’s something like that, whether it’s the trade rumors, whatever it is, when there’s things that might cause a little unrest, they kind of sit there and they hang out. When things are going well, they’re forgotten and pushed to the side. But when things don’t go well, quite often they come back.”

...

Did it bother you that Oates came to the Buffalo morning skate [Jan. 12]? That was at the start of the tailspin? “I’m not going to even comment on it. But I would say, that I would not do the same thing.”

So often, too often, the focus is on a rental

Dreger said that the Oilers could eat at much as 50% of Schutz's contract to move him. He hasn't panned out there but could on a new team.

The Eric Staal situation, I love it when the analyst's say that because they Canes are in the 'hunt' that he won't be moved. In the hunt for what? Even if by some miracle, (which I can't see) they are the 8th seed, the hunt to win 1 game and out in 1 round? IF Staal, Skinner and the rest have GM's calling with a decent offer, you do it.
Esp Staal, whose size and skill would be attractive to a team that actually is a legit playoff team.

THat whole article is a odd read...no wonder the team is so inconstant

Yeo had been on and off the hot seat since last season, and Oates is on record saying he wants to be an NHL head coach again. There was also that very awkward time back in late November when Suter — an Oates guy, don’t forget — ripped into Yeo and the coaching staff, saying “I don’t know what they’re thinking.â€

And if you want to read deeper into the Oates/Parise/Suter dynamic, consider what Yeo said about the Wild locker room.

“It just felt like there were almost two groups,†he explained. “There were younger guys and there were the older guys. It wasn’t just a grop.â€

It's so bizarre.

And I hate Russo at times but the referenced article is a fantastic read, more open and forward than I would expect:

Onus is on Suter and Parise now. You got your likely wishes, it's your team, time to show up.

These guys are phony leaders. Great supporting players, can't carry the team.

With McDavid there, the Oilers might need to take a chance and trade some of the other guys for something different, even if the talent may not be equal. Like when the Kings traded Nicholls for Sandstrom and Granato. Or the Nordiques trading Sundin for Clark.

To be fair no D in the last 10 years has panned out in Edmonton.
And you have to wonder how bad they screwed him up.

That was an excellent interview and Yeo was very frank and honest , given how raw it still has to be, about what happened. It seems to me , reading what he said, that there were a lot of locker room issues and a bit of a power struggle between Parise and co and the coach.
Really shows a lot of cracks in the structure
