No kidding. earlier this year I was like wait, Matt Cullen is still in the NHL? He's just gritting it out. He's the only reason I can get behind the Pens winning. Everything else, vomit.

outside of the "big three" Crosby Malkin Kessel

what's not to like?

i love what Kuhnhackl, Sheary, Rust, Dumoulin, and Murray brought to the team

and happy for Bonino & Hagelin too

who would have thought Bonino and Hagelin in this great position to win the cup before Getzlaf and Perry.

Bonino does not surprise me. He always seems to up his game in the playoffs, and once he was moved from Vancouver last summer I thought he would do well for the pens in the playoffs.

Hagelin shocks the **** out of me though

I always thought it was a mistake for the Ducks to get rid of Bonino (Palmieri too), he makes an excellent 3C. I guess that doesn't matter because they have Rakell now. It'd be nice if Dowd or Kempe could emerge in that spot for us. I have a suspicion that by moving Kempe to center in Ontario, they're going to try and fill that hole internally, through youth.

Agreed on Bonino. He always torched LA. was also glad to see Anaheim deal Maroon

26 year old GM in Phoenix? What could go wrong?

honestly, how is any agent/player/other gm's going to take this guy seriously.

i could just see it now...

Hello
hello, is the yotes gm there
yup, john chyka (sp) speaking
ok..is your dad there?

It sounds like Tippett is going to deal with the asset end of things, while this kid is most likely going to be the lightning rod, AKA Junior Soprano.

I don't hate the Pens nearly as much as some around here. In fact, I think it bodes well for the Kings to win a third Cup down along the road. The Pens have gone through a ton of adversity both in the lockerroom and behind the bench, and they've finally put it together again for another significant run. Good on them. I hope the Kings can do the same facing similar cap problems.

Williams is not having a great post-season either it seems. But the Caps are lucky to have him on the team for the hole they are going to have to climb out of.

How crazy is it that the Pens suddenly caught on fire and are making a serious push for the cup? I guess the cup window is longer than I expected. The Pens have not been much of a threat for years now.

Tippett has to be one of the most underrated coaches in the league. He always manages to get the most out of whatever scraps he is given to assemble a team. Take a look at the 2012 Coyotes team. Not necessarily a superstar lineup, but they got to the Western Conference finals.

I picked them to win the cup in the NHL bracket (over st. louis so I am looking pretty good right now). I think a lot of people thought they would get past the rangers, than would get healthy and have a good shot at the cup.

I really wish there was a way we could lure Tippett away, but it sounds like he's committed to the Coyotes. I'd rather have him over Sutter at the moment.

Our drafting and development has been a concern lately. Sure the Reign are a championship caliber team, and have won the Calder Cup, but that doesn't necessarily translate to the NHL at all. Very few impact players are coming thru and playing with the big club. Its almost as though we've gone from a respectable farm system to a barren wasteland.

Will never forget being at the draft, seeing the Kings trade-up and then hoping it was Tarasenko.

Nope...needed a project defenseman that would take six years to hopefully become an NHL player.

Lot of people scratched their heads over that selection at the draft, not much of s reaction from the Kings fans in attendance, much like the silent reception over the Hickey selection at the 2007 draft party.

Well, there was gushing from the hockey community about how the Kings developmental system "does it right" after the Calder Cup win last season.

"Impact" is hard to define as well: do we mean Toffoli or are we talking Dwight King/Jordan Nolan? I mean, they haven't really had anyone come out of Manchester and be a legit impact player outside of Toffoli, Voynov and Muzzin this decade. You get your one-off hot playoff performances of King and Pearson but, if impact is Top 6/Top 4, there are only four players that fit this bill (tossed Martinez in as he graduated Manchester in 2010-11) and we are seven seasons into the decade.

Now, Gravel might become a Top 4 guy eventually and Kempe could be Top 6, but its doubtful that happens as soon as we'd like it.

Guess my point is that the Kings haven't "developed" much top-flight talent in Manchester as the majority of studs bypass it or barely spend anytime there. Kopitar/Doughty/Simmonds never played there and Quick barely did. Brayden Schenn probably would of been on the Kings opening roster in 2012 after only seven games in the AHL and even Jack Johnson skipped it as well. ****, even Clifford skipped it for the most part.

I don't think there is a development issue as the Kings have actually been very good at developing NHL players that had a limited NHL outlook; however, there is definitely a talent issue but that is what happens when you trade away so many 1st rounders and the ones you've kept since 2010 are a potential bust and then the last pick of the round 2x.

Forgot Martin Jones. Toss him in to the current decade as an impact player. Unfortunately, that makes five guys and two of them aren't even on the Kings anymore.

Really hoping Nashville can take the whole thing.

Wanted no part of them in Round 1 as they reminded me of the 2012 Kings a bit: best overall blue line in the playoffs, solid goalie, disciplined and a trade of a young stud defenseman to CBJ for a #1C that was desperately needed.

Oh, and they received no respect nationally and still aren't for the most part.

I think I said this elsewhere but to be frank when our window opened a lot of the 'opportunity' for prospects to make an impact disappeared as we 1. started trading 1st round picks for roster players which 2. took roster spots off the table. Now instead of having to outplay trent hunter, ethan moreau, they have to outplay marian gaborik, for example.

I also don't think (not saying you're doing this, just speaking in generalities) it's fair to suggest that we have a development issue or aren't breeding impact players when our AHL prospects WERE impact players in our cup runs...and the only one of them to be a first round pick was Pearson. We have yet to see what some guys' contributions will be, and for as much as everyone seems giddy about Gravel here, we sure seem to talk down the abilities of the AHLers. Is this because of Shore or something? I don't know. Point is, it's hard to say what these guys become until they're here. No one would have pegged King and Nolan as potential 'impact' players until they were. For all we know, Dowd comes in and blows the doors off, Gravel becomes a long term partner for Doughty, McNabb becomes full on Muzzin 2.0, and Kempe re-enacts pearson while Cernak is Gudas and two of our late picks from the 2016 draft are 4th line impact players. Is the complete opposite possible? Absolutely. But I think we need to stop being so pessimistic as to think that NONE of our prospects are going to pan out.

I really wish there was a way we could lure Tippett away, but it sounds like he's committed to the Coyotes. I'd rather have him over Sutter at the moment.
.

I feel like Tippett is one of those coaches who gets a ton out of a mediocre roster but can't hack it with a better roster. That's how he's been historically anyway. I DO think he's really smart/saavy and I have to think he has learned a lot so I'm sure eventually he'll prove me wrong and I do appreciate his approach too.

How the hell could we afford to pay him and carry his 7.5 mil cap hit? And would that also mean we don't draft Toffoli, who had a hand in winning cup 2, scoring huge goals in every series?
