Well, there was gushing from the hockey community about how the Kings developmental system "does it right" after the Calder Cup win last season.
"Impact" is hard to define as well: do we mean Toffoli or are we talking Dwight King/Jordan Nolan? I mean, they haven't really had anyone come out of Manchester and be a legit impact player outside of Toffoli, Voynov and Muzzin this decade. You get your one-off hot playoff performances of King and Pearson but, if impact is Top 6/Top 4, there are only four players that fit this bill (tossed Martinez in as he graduated Manchester in 2010-11) and we are seven seasons into the decade.
Now, Gravel might become a Top 4 guy eventually and Kempe could be Top 6, but its doubtful that happens as soon as we'd like it.
Guess my point is that the Kings haven't "developed" much top-flight talent in Manchester as the majority of studs bypass it or barely spend anytime there. Kopitar/Doughty/Simmonds never played there and Quick barely did. Brayden Schenn probably would of been on the Kings opening roster in 2012 after only seven games in the AHL and even Jack Johnson skipped it as well. ****, even Clifford skipped it for the most part.
I don't think there is a development issue as the Kings have actually been very good at developing NHL players that had a limited NHL outlook; however, there is definitely a talent issue but that is what happens when you trade away so many 1st rounders and the ones you've kept since 2010 are a potential bust and then the last pick of the round 2x.
Forgot Martin Jones. Toss him in to the current decade as an impact player. Unfortunately, that makes five guys and two of them aren't even on the Kings anymore.
