Oilers top six is something to behold, that's for sure. Draisaitl is freaking awesome.

Now, if they have the balls to trade Eberle/Yak/Draisaitl for a money D-man, THEN they're going to be really scary.

*waits for Oiler fans to come in and defend him*

*Flames fans will show up somehow*

*RP gets new high score with 10 points*

They won't though. They belong in the eastern conference. All offense and zero defense. IMO they are the penguins of the west, minus a decent goalie.

Penguins are a very good team, that are garbage in the Playoffs. Not even comparable. I hate the Penguins (shocker, I know), but aren't even close. Oilers are total hype pretenders that have done nothing except win the backwards Cup.

Exactly what I'm fearing that this team actually starts to figure everything out and all their 1st overalls(all 90 of em) finally learns how to play as a team. I hope they don't have the balls to trade one of those dudes cuz they will destroy everyone if they find the right pieces. Oh and they do have McJesus too.

Oiler fans are sure ripping Sekera right now, comparing it to the David Clarkson signing by the Leafs:laugh:

He's a soft, overhyped, #3-4 d-man. Of course a dumb organization like the Oilers would pick him up for 5 mil a year. Glad we didn't give him what he wanted.

That 1st still stings! I give Lombardi credit for trying but that first though.

Their top-6 is good to be sure, but it's much easier to look good when defense and back checking is the last thing on your mind.

I don't think one will help, they'll need at least 2. Oh, and they'll need a goalie. They need to shave at least a full GPG if they wan't to contend, and thankfully they won't be doing that any time soon. But I'm not gonna lie, they are fun to watch.

I think one will be sufficient as Nurse grows in and Sekera becomes a #3 like he should be. With Chiarelli and McLellan there they should have the appropriate leadership and McDavid is obviously hockey Jesus anyway but they can sure **** it all up by not adding d-men by being scared to lose a guy like Eberle, for example.

But anyway, yeah, that was fun to watch, especially with no stake in it, lol

Sekera was always overrated in my opinion. He is a decent puck mover, with strong possession trends.

But the guy is not on the Muzzin/Drew/A-Mart level. Sekera is not a (Driver) of possession or production. Not worth 5.5 million at six years.

Muzzin's contract right now is an absolute steal.

Also, still absolutely amazed that guys like Clune/Torres/Scott, continue to get NHL contracts. It's amazing.

I got around to watching highlights from last night's games. Boy, Bernier is a shell of the goalie he used to be. What happened to that guy?

Oh yeah... Toronto.

Exactly, it's a nonexistent Defense that plays in front of him. Babcock has a lot of work ahead of himself.

From Mapleleafhotstove, Lou on Rich Clune:

After the game the other night, Mike Babcock was very complimentary of Bryon Froese. Tell me about Rich Clune and Byrone Froese in terms of what they offer in terms of work ethic. The hope is that that permeates throughout the dressing room, right? Lamoriello: I think that the dressing room has been great as far as the work ethic. Mike and our coaching staff has done a tremendous job of getting our players to buy into the idea you can’t just work a shift here or a period here. It has to be done all the time, every night. I think that, when some people have not been used to that, you will go through different phases where, because you’re not accustomed to bringing it every single shift and every night, you fall back a little. I think these two gentlemen, with their past and what they’ve overcome, bring that night in and night out. I think that will add to what is there. As far as character and work ethic, they’re second to none.

Some of the goals he let in (like that near post softie and the rebound off the boards that he lets go right through his crease) on their own are indefensible. I think it's just shell shock.

Bernier just isn't very good, people still talk like he is 22 with some kind of untapped potential. He is what he is.

He's awful and he's ignorant on top of that.

The comments section on that is hilarious.

Only 6 teams have made the playoffs since 2005 being out of the race by more than 4 points on Nov. 1.
-----------------------

Being that today is 11/1, this would seem noteworthy. Of note: ANA is 7 out (though they could be 5 out should they win tonight), CGY is exactly 4 out (though every team in the west, except EDM, has a game in-hand) and COL is 8 out, though the only relevance they have to the Kings is the WC, and it sure looks like those are coming out of the central.
