I also love how literally seconds before Dallas scores the winning tic-tac-toe goal we have Hayward complaining about the ice and it preventing the ducks from utilizing their tic-tac-toe passing ability.

Hayward: (after 4th goal) "I think we'll see a coaches challenge here. There could have been interference."

PlaybyPlay guy: "I don't think it would get over turned anyways."

I love when the play by play guy contradicts Hayward, then there's an awkward silence for a few moments.

Ducks Update: Now in a 4 way tie for last place with Flames/Leafs/CBJ.

I know, then Dallas shows them the ice is fine. My god, even those two are looking for excuses for their bad play.

You'd swear the Oilers have won every game the way the NHL media hypes McDavid. Seriously, they've lost 3 in a row, and all you hear is McDavid this, McDavid that. Oh and the other team beat them again, but lets get back to McDavid.

What else can they talk about? Quick's brilliant save the other night? :naughty:

Too soon?

Boudreau's face was purple during the Chicago game the other night. He seriously looks like he could have a heart attack at any time. I'm not even joking either.

Hard to believe this was ever the same guy. But it is.

Let 'em talk. Last time a 3-7 quality team went to the playoffs was like...never.

Anything to take their minds off the fact that the oilers are still a **** team.

That couldn't have worked out worse for the Ducks. Not only a back to back on the road against Chicago and then a fast Dallas team, but they finally score some goals, only to lose the multi-goal lead and the game. There's not getting a break or two, and then there's that.

Try living in Canada. You would swear McDavid invented hockey.

I love it. No threads on the main board about how well we're doing and how Toffoli is one of the top scorers in the league. Lets keep it that way, **** the main board.

Chicago had Hossa wide open on a two on one with most of the net to shoot at and the Duck defender just managed to deflect the pass out of play. Hayward droned on about how Chicago was lucky the puck went out of play instead of around the boards for a Ducks out-numbered attack.

Benn is a ****ing beast.

totally. Good in all 3 zones, positionally sound on both sides of the puck, works his butt off consistently. Consistently providing points , esp when needed. Good leader.

5th round pick , passed over because it was felt he couldn't skate (per bobby mac, when asked last week)
15 points already, looks like he's trying to keep his Art Ross trophy.

Really good captain.

Martin Havlat & Dainius Zubrus have been invited to St. Louis on professional tryouts. >

Zubrus...wow...

**** the main board.

By the way, great username. I feel that way all the time, with the Ducks flags and getting in conversation about hockey with people and seeing the strange awkwardness when I say I am a Kings fan.

Holy **** - that McDavidian thread on the main board is one giant stroke fest. I felt like posting "I'm just here to drop off a cracker, let me know who eats it".

Posts like 'yeah, he's really good'.
'he sure is, I saw him almost score like 5 times last night'
'OMG, this guy is awesome'

The guy has played well so far in the league but if the Oilers continue to lose more games than they win, are these players really that good?

Dallas had an in depth article on the draft process in finding Benn: http://stars.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=635104

Always found this part kinda amusing:

Playing in Victoria didn’t help – as you just don’t hop in your car and drive to Victoria, which is on Vancouver Island.

“You have to take a ferry or an airplane to get to where he played in junior,†Holland said. “The Victoria Royals weren’t in the Western Hockey League at the time and it was a process to get over there. You lost a day-and-a-half of travel because of the ferry. Lots of scouts decided to go see the (WHL’s) Vancouver Giants or the Seattle Thunderbirds.â€

Adding to Benn’s low profile that year was that he did not get invited to play at two events where he might have caught the attention of several scouts. One was the Junior ‘A’ Challenge, a tournament featuring top Junior ‘A’ players from Canada and other countries. The other was then called the CJAHL Top Prospects game, which featured top Junior ‘A’ players from around Canada'.

Sometimes we take it for granted how remote some of the junior towns can be. Add that to Hakan Andersson's story on how he accidentally found Pavel Datsyuk who was playing in a Russian city which was difficult to travel to; Andersson mentioned how he was on a plane to go watch Datsyuk and noticed a Calgary scout on board, but the plane wasn't allowed to takeoff due to icy conditions.

Zubrus...wow...

Don't know how much Zubrus has left in the tank, but I was hoping he'd latch onto a playoff team as a 13th/14th forward. I absolutely hated when we signed Zubrus initially in 2007, but he earned my respect over the years. When he was signed, he had come off a couple of career years offensively while centering Ovechkin back when Washington didn't have any better options. So it wasn't a surprise that Zubrus immediately regressed back to his career norms.

For what he lacked in skill, his effort level was always there. He'd be a decent utility guy who can play all three forward spots. With the injuries that St. Louis has, that wouldn't be a bad option to have as a healthy scratch right now.

We'll see. Crosby threads have been going strong for 10+ years now. But I'm with you in regards to winning. Penguins fans always talk up the fact that they have 2 "generational talents" in Crosby and Malkin. One Cup in 9+ seasons together. If they were truly both generational, then 2 SCF appearances and a slew of monstrous flameouts in the playoffs is the best they could do to date is a huge disappointment. Then you get into the circle jerk argument of if Crosby/Malkin played for the Hawks and Kings, they'd have more Cups as well. That's the whole damn point of being "generational". That you're so damn good that everyone weeps at your feet and you actually can win Cups without having to also be on the best "team".

You're right about the remote locations and what efforts scouts go to. I read and article in SI last year about Hakan Andersson and how many 'gems' he's found for the wings, going back years. You can't put a price on how much a scout with 'eyes' that good is for an organization. And he mentioned he didn't go to that game to see Datsyuk, but once he got there, he couldn't take his eyes off of him.

I never doubted Zubrus's heart or leadership, but at his age, it's not easy to keep up with the speed of the NHL. But Hitch like his vets, so I'm not surprised with them down key forwards to injuries for awhile, he opted for that rather then bringing up a top prospect.

The Pens problem was and is (esp post season) lack of leadership. Being an elite talent during the year doesn't guarentee anything in the playoffs, which is a whole new pressure cooker and not every player can adjust. You can see watching those games neither Malkin r Crosby had the mental wherewithall or moxy to be 'that guy' who instinctively knows how to get it done. They continue to make the mistake of a revolving door of trades and FA' signings but that only promotes too many strangers sharing the bench and it's hard to play for the guy next to you when you don't know him. They've traded away far too many picks and prospects for that 'veteran guy' who would be the 'difference maker' and now Malkin and Crosby (who they felt when drafted would lead the team to multiple SCF's) are getting in the 30 yr range and the window isn't as wide open anymore.
They should trade Malkin, he's a top center in a league where far too many teams have none. Nashville has a great defense corp and at 31 Weber would be a viable candidate, Pens get a stud D they need and Nashville gets a top center which they really need if they are serious about getting a Cup.
