I mean, it's literally what everyone my age was taught growing up anyway in a 1-on-1 situation. Watch the chest/hips, can use your stick for control and to poke as long as it doesn't put you out of control, make contact. I know new-school defense is possession and the idea of checking someone means both you AND a player are marked out of the play, and that a good poke puts the opposition in an odd-man situation, but WHY do that last man back on one of the greatest players ever? That's bad at any level.'
THe funny thing is no one is talking about an arguably lazier play on Ovy's 500th where, on the penalty kill, he was glued to the top of the crease and swinging his stick at nothing in particular and puck watching like an AYSO soccer player.
Maybe he's burned out, fine, he doesn't get a free pass on defense for it. IT's awful. Most 5v5 GA in the league again. I don't care about your points if you're hemorrhaging goals against to get them.
