Now that is just crazy.

It will change when we make the turn on the season towards the finish line. Kings are in such a weird position with the buffer zone they have at this point. I don't remember the last time the Kings were this far ahead in the division.

I think they said on the telecast before the game it was 1992, so God only knows how long it's been since there have been this much separation.

Maybe never.

The Pacific is just smarter imo.

Either make the playoffs or you're in the lottery, none of this black hole bs.

"Matthews? Playoffs? Eberle might finally ask for a trade if we get another first overall? MATTHEWS? What if we end up first and pick a defensman....LOL JK?"

Tough time for the Oilers.

Perfect GIF. Both Larry and Auston have the same hairline.

League believes that the ability to expand and do an expansion draft would override any no-trade or no-move clauses. Will work w/PA on tha
t.

Per General Fanager there are 116 NTC/NMCs at risk for expansion draft

And over the weekend on a podcast the Sportsnet panel was discussing the Vegas/ Quebec City expansion and the subject of the draft came up and that the NHL wants both teams to be competitive from the get go, so the expansion draft rules will accommodate that, the teams will have a better quality field of players to pick from. Teams will have a harder choice on who they can protect.

I imagine the PA would be very very upset with this. If I am a player who has a NM I would be pissed

The good part here is that a team that should be tanking, you know one of those teams that used to be good in the Pacific, but clearly don't have enough left to compete in the playoffs. You know who I'm talking about... (most of the division) May still end up making the playoffs and getting hosed on their pick because too many other teams are "tanking".

You could have a situation where 4 points separate the Oilers drafting first overall and the the Nucks/Sharks drafting around 14-15 because they were forced to lose in the first round of the playoffs. Ok There'll probably be more separation by the end of the year, but we can hope.

Poor WPG! Tied for 2nd in the Pacific and sitting outside of the playoffs. On a side note anyone else remember that article that pointed out it was colder in WPG then on the surface of Mars? Probably last Dec/Jan or maybe the one before.

Makes me wonder, how many active players not currently on the Blackhawks have their names on the Cup three times?

There will be a lot of things the league will need to figure out for an expansion draft with the cap. Would teams have to protect a certain number of players, or a certain % of the cap? Both? Would the expansion teams need to hit a certain % of the cap in the draft? The clauses are obviously huge. Do expansion teams get a lower cap floor for like the first year? Would teams get a new round of "free" buyouts?

It could be pretty chaotic.

Mike Richards case was rescheduled for Jan 28 due to his attorney request to the crown for an investigation on a related issue:

Josh Weinstein is an agent for David Humphrey, the lawyer representing Richards. Weinstein explains the delay in the case, by saying the defence has asked the Crown to investigate an issue related to the case. Weinstein said he couldn't get into the details of the request.

Yeah I find it hard to buy that the PA would get on board with that.

I don't feel bad for the Central teams at all. It's cyclical and they seem to forget only a few years back the NW was terrible and the Pacific was close to sending 5 teams most years while beating itself up. It's like complaining about loser points because they're benefiting the Canucks this year.

I already had this thought weeks ago, I wanted to open a poll and everything and I never did, but now I gotta say it out loud: finishing 2nd in this division would be sooooo much better than finishing first.

Obviously, I'm torn. I can't root against my own team and I like the view of the standings with a 9-point lead. I want to win every single game, yet blowing such a lead would mean losing a lot.
But imo Chicago, St.Louis, Dallas & Minnesota are better than any other Pacific team, and Nashville is maybe on one level with the Ducks & Sharks.

My gut feeling says LA-Chicago in round 1 (2 vs 7) but I hope I'm wrong.

I was enjoying having more cup titles than division titles but I'm cool with Kings gaining a solid lead at the beginning of December.
