Pressure to make wife and kids happy shortens career lifespan? Maybe.

Probably more in line with him not having the stress or commitments outside of the game. He is entirely devoted to hockey with no big distractions.

Can stay at the rink all night if he wants. Doesn't have to have any dad time with the kids.

At the point where Jagr is now, he must have to simply want to work out after the games. He's got the money. He's already in the hall of fame. It's not a chore. He's not just trying to hang around for the check. He's almost 44, and he's totally into it. He hasn't got sick of the grind, and the game has yet to pass him by. A lot of variables have to come together for that to happen, but he's one of a kind.

FIRST STAR – JONATHAN QUICK, G, LOS ANGELES KINGS

Quick went 4-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average, .968 save percentage and one shutout to help the Pacific Division-leading Kings (25-11-2, 52 points) extend their winning streak to five games. He stopped all 27 shots he faced to record his 40th career shutout (and third this season) in a 5-0 victory over the Vancouver Canucks Dec. 28. In doing so, Quick tied John Vanbiesbrouck (Detroit, Mich.) and Frank Brimsek (Eveleth, Minn.) for the most shutouts by a U.S.-born goaltender in NHL history. He followed that performance with 42 saves in a 5-2 triumph over the Edmonton Oilers Dec. 29. Quick then closed the week by allowing one goal in a pair of wins, making 23 saves in a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames Dec. 31 and a 29 saves in a 2-1 triumph over the Philadelphia Flyers Jan. 2. The 29-year-old Milford, Conn., native ranks second in the NHL with 22 wins in 32 appearances this season (2.12 GAA, .923 SV%, 3 SO), including five straight victories and a 12-2-0 record in his past 14 outings.

First star *****es. A shame he doesn't have Lundqvists shiny hair or Gibsons god like stature, then he wouldn't be an average system goalie.

Well wouldn't you know it. USA now plays Sweden for WJC bronze.

Sure is weird that this is the 3rd year in a row that a US team at any level of int'l hockey had to play for 3rd place.

Glad I got my shots in on the Ducks early in the season.

The Pacific is ****ing garbage.

At least the Ducks won't get Mathews.

nope, but the odds are he's gonna land somewhere in our division.

Kings are going to be hurting in 5 years (and that's okay) when our guys age out and all these #1 picks are running everyone over.

Remember when people were criticizing the Panthers trading for Jagr last year?

What did they give up, a couple of draft picks?

The guy has been a Godsend to that team on the ice, and from all indications off it as well. What a wonderful deal and addition to a young team that needed a Hall of Famer to show them the way.

Plus, I heard he has made Barkov into a two-way center.

Yes, Jagr has turned out to be the consumate professional. I give a lot of credit to Willie Mitchell as well. Two very good veteran leaders.

Kings haven't played Dallas or Washington yet either.

Top 3 teams in the nhl and yet they've played only one game against each other combined.

He gets to empty his stress on hot young models and then kicks them to the curb shortly thereafter with no regrets.

He is my idol, right up there with Chuck Norris

Barkov has always been expected to develop into a very good two way centre.
Jagr was a rental when they traded for him and they were out of the playoffs. I stand by criticizing the deal at the time.

give credit where it is due with Dallas they have been tons of fun to watch, however hasn't their schedule been very easy? I thought I read somewhere that they have not played in the division much yet
