This Florida-Edmonton final has started great! I wish the games weren't all 8 PM, super inconvenient time (3 AM here). But looks to be good, intense, anything-can-happen hockey and both teams firing on all cylinders. Good stuff!

Edit: The highlights from the first period alone, wow what a game already.

Ohio?!?!
I would say Edmonton dominated first period, maybe second half. Then, Florida just took over.

Kudos for Bob starting off hot. I remember last year he kinda lost his mojo after winning the ECF.

Great game by Bob.

The shots were so uneven early - I think Florida had 2 goals on 6 shots at some point in the 2nd period - but you can’t really blame Skinner for either goal.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we all made a big boo boo thinking Bob wasn't worth 10 million a year with how he has played the last couple of years.

For gods sake I’m going to have an aneurism if this actually how people think
I mean Zito built this team and Bob might just be their best player in the post season. It’s true to some degree

He wouldn’t look so good behind our defense. Just look at what he was first two years in Florida

Bill Zito was hired by them in 2020, after the CBJ had just had their 4th consecutive playoff appearance. Jarmo is a young executive, the first European GM, and had no interest in relinquishing his role. What were they going to do, fire him and promote Zito? Promote him to POHO against his wishes?

Bob and the team wanted to move on. Bob said the team tried to approach him after the final season there and he declined to talk. The team did ruin the relationship with him, yes, no qualms about that and that’s something the previous management had a habit in doing. Not good, but there is no sense in crying over spilled milk or doing revisionist history. Nobody was complaining when Bob left and signed for 10 million when it happened.

I don’t need to talk about Kevin Stenlund and his 9 minutes of ice time.

Winnipeg (Stenlund too), Philadelphia (Bob too), Calgary (Tkachuk, Bennett), Vancouver/Carolina(Forsling), Tampa (Verhaege) also made this all happen!!

See how ridiculous this sounds? Come on now

Oh, I’m not saying it could have been us playing in the SCF this season, I’m saying the former CBJ are having a direct impact on the Panthers success

As have Calgary, Vancouver, Tampa, etc. so what’re we doing here? You can do this with any team almost

Correct, but I just can’t ignore (and kinda happy for them) former Jackets
I am very happy for Bob. I’ve been on the panthers bandwagon all playoff for him. Was a great player here, the best we’ve ever had, and I hated how it ended.

One of the things I enjoy about Bob's late career resurgence is that it should be a good reminder of his success in Columbus, and that good things have happened in CBJ land too. He had two Vezinas for us, maybe the best player in franchise history.

Let's not let this turn into another woe-is-me should have kept him type of narrative.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we all made a big boo boo thinking Bob wasn't worth 10 million a year with how he has played the last couple of years.

FWIW, from the reporting that final year and the following summer, and in all later interviews with Bob, the primary obstacle in the contract negotiations with Bob was that Bob was not interested in staying. The Blue Jackets made him some big offers - I can't remember off the top of my head, but I had reason to think it was something close to what he got in Florida. Bob told us after the Washington series that he was moving on, and he was later insulted that we didn't take him at his word.

Then a year later after the PLD debacle there were of course a flurry of stories exploring why players want to leave Columbus. And Porty made his defense - that in some cases, like Duchene and Bob, the Jackets didn't think they were worth that much. But from Porty's own reporting a year earlier, that wasn't how it went with Bob.

Man, I love Bob. Also, I think he’ll be our first player HOFer that wouldn't get in without CBJ contributions (technically, Fedorov is our first/only, but obviously he would’ve gotten in even if he never played for CBJ). Even if Florida wins the Cup and that’s the final checkmark, Bob’s career without CBJ wouldn’t be enough to get him in, so I’ll count him as our first “real” HOFer.

Well, yeah, we'll probably never really know what happened but there was that whole early shower thing that happened. While the truth will probably remain hidden that season was the beginning of the end of Jarmo when it comes down to it. Something was driving players out of town. Either the management didn't value them enough to keep them or they just didn't like how management was treating them. Or even both. I get Panarin never had any intention of staying but that shouldn't have had an impact on all of the others who wanted out.

Jarmo basically signed his own death warrant by thinking the stars could just be replaced by cheaper draft picks and those replacements all under achieved.
