Kings versus Rangers? With vomit in my mouth, I say Kings.

Only way I see Rangers beating LA is if Henrik steals it. And while I share everyone's (most) dislike for the Kings I 'll be rooting for the Rangers.

Eh, I'm OK with either the Kings or the Rangers winning it all. They're both sort-of-likable and really, Carter+Brassard+Nash all needed to be shipped away from C-bus. And at this point, I'm more amazed than butthurt with Gaborik's performance... and obviously, feeling vindicated about his worth.

You have a weird definition of likeable.

We need to start demanding premiums when we make trades with LA.

Or we can just keep our stud goal scorers instead of giving them away for the right to have Matt Frattin eat popcorn in our pressbox?

well... Jarmo was dumb for dumping Gaborik for what he got in return and losing money on the deal, and Gaborik does make that more apparent with every point he gets as his team sits 1 win away from the SCF, so...

If even you find "dumb" too pejorative, does "absurd" work? ;)

Hindsight makes for the best arguments. If it's the Rangers and the Kings I'll wait for rookie camp to watch hockey again. Hate both teams and couldn't care less who wins that series. I would hope it would end in 4 games.

It's only hindsight if you didn't dislike the trade to begin with. Gabby's performance isn't helping Jarmo out any but the deal stunk the day it happened.

If it's Rags/Kings, it will be tough to swallow either way. But tougher if the Rags win.

I'm going with Kings. Hoping Gaborik keeps proving how dumb Jarmo was for dumping him.

Yeah. It was an absurdly lame deal when you consider the original deal involved to acquire Gaborik. I don't care how sucky they were at their time here, those are 3 roster players 2 of which were first rounders still young (especially Moore). Good assets imo...

It's crazy how Columbus has really solved LA's scoring woes every year at the deadline cup run by trading two superstar players for essentially Jack Johnson and Marko Dano.

What's even worse is that I would be sickened if those moves didn't pan out with a cup victory for them (LA). I would totally puke if those loafers (Ie Nash, Brassard) had a cup fall in their laps. Totally pissed.

Hey any companies interested, I'll wear a shirt advertising your product to any sporting event, provided you'll pay for my glass seats and at least 2 beers. Keep seeing this at MSG.

Embellishment penalty called and Rags capitalize on it to tie the game.

Hindsight makes for the best arguments.

What if you had the foresight to say it was a bad trade one month BEFORE the trade deadline?

Bobcat110 said:
Ok....but what do you realistic expect to get for him. From the "other" GMs perspective...one would assume the other GM would be a GM in the playoff hunt. No GM out of playoff hunt would want to rent Gaborik. If they want him, they can just try to go after him July 1st without giving up anything, or they could trade something minimally (4th round pick) for rights to negotiate with him between the draft and July 1st.

So, if the other GM is in the playoff hunt, the other GM would not likely want to give up a roster player, especially a roster player under contract next year or beyond. The "other" GM is looking to add to his current roster, not subtract. Based on that, Jarmo probably would only be able to ask for a prospect, a draft pick or maybe a depth player. The value of that prospect or draft pick would be based on the value the other GM thinks Gaborik could bring to his team. You just listed a lot of reasons why Gaborik's value is low for us, would that not lower his value in the mind of another GM?

What, as the "other" GM, would you give up knowing that you would (1) have a player who hasn't played a full game since Mid-November; (2) Will likely miss the Olympics and, AT BEST, play 4 NHL games before the trade deadline to evaluate; (3) often injured; (4) aging; (5) have to pay $1.83 Million (prorated salary); and (6) will be a Free Agent at end of the year?

I personally think the most optimistic expectation would be a late 2nd round pick, a mid-level prospect or depth player.

Now, back to Jarmo. He's got a team that is going into Olympic break in a playoff spot or just a point or two away from playoff spot. A team that has only 1 playoff series in its history and a suffering fan base. You currently have a guy on your roster that scored 76 points in 2011-12 and 27 points out of 47 games in a 48 game lock-out shortened 2013 season. Are you going to trade away that player for a late-2nd round draft pick or down-the-road mid-level prospects with the potential to lose a player than might help a playoff run this year? Keep in mind, trading Gaborik admits he failed in his first major action as a GM AND may reflect even worse on him if Gaborik does stay healthy and helps another playoff team make a run.

Finally, to Gaborik. You've pissed away most of your last contract year on the injured reserve. You have maybe 20 regular season games and maybe few playoff games to market yourself. If you're healthy enough to play, wouldn't you be busting your ass to prove your worth? Seems to me it's there's little reward in trading him. There's a lot for Jarmo and Gaborik yet to prove that makes it worth us keeping him.

I'm feeling like a glass half full guy tonight so my take is that other GMs are now anxious to deal with Jarmo thinking they can fleece him.

Many on this board consider this a sorry series, but I am looking forward to - and hoping for - a possible game seven.....looking more promising after Bourque's hat trick. Still a lot of hockey to play.
