So now it looks like Nash and Brassard will get to the Stanley Cup finals and Carter is well on his way for the second time since whining their way out of Columbus. I try not to be bitter about these things, but I just can't help myself in wishing first round eliminations for all three.

While that was a well placed shot by MSL, it seemed to me a more experienced goalie should have stopped it. Tokarski was down too low I thought. I am not a goalie expert by any means but that's the way it looked to me. Goalie experts?

He got whacked in the face with the blade of a stick. In other words, not a dive. Is that an example of the classlessness in the game?

Tokarski played a whale of a game

Yeah, everybody I know that gets hit the face kicks their feet up behind them and flails away. He DID get high sticked, but he also embellished it.

I'm not saying there's no embellishment, but I personally don't have a problem with it given the act that he's embellishing. You know, the blade of the stick in his grill. Trying to sell refs on something that didn't actually happen is a different story. Calling the play in question classless on the part of Subban is being persnickety.

On another topic, can't say I'm happy to be in the same division with Trotz again.

Not talking about the Subban reaction to the Nash high stick, but until the diver is called for trying to sell the penalty as well as the guilty party diving will continue. I know that the refs can't see everything, but it is getting ridiculous, almost soccer-esque.

To be fair, getting hit in the face, no matter where or how hard, is going to draw a strong reaction a lot of the time. What I object to was the jump.

Anyways, hope Caps fans love Jason Chimera getting 19 minutes a night. :D:D:D

Well, if the Flyers had slipped to the 7th seed, I don't think the Rangers would have made it past the 1st round. ;)

We need to start demanding premiums when we make trades with LA.

Trade Proposal for the 2015 Trade Deadline

To LA: RJ Umberger
To CLB: Every LA Pick in the 2015 draft.

Reasoning: Every time we make a deadline trade with LA, they win the cup. Umberger will somehow manage to score 15 goals in 19 playoff games and win the Conn Smythe so we might as well get value for him.

Kerry Fraser weighs in on embellishment:

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=453182

Thanks for the link. Fraser has it right.

"Three years ago I suggested that a double minor penalty be assessed to the 'diver' when he was legitimately fouled and the referee was calling a minor penalty. It would take some guts for the refs to impose a strict standard on a call like this but the game would be better for it. The referees also have to know their calls would receive the full support of management.

Until players that embellish are penalized by the referees and held accountable by the League with published fines and suspensions as prescribed in rule 64.3, this illegal act will continue to plague the game. It's time for everyone involved to man-up."

I'm not sure if I'd like this rule. When I played, if someone got their stick or glove or shoulder in my face, my head would naturally snap back. I drew a lot of penalties that way, but I couldn't have stopped it if I tried.
