Rough trade to judge. Its an easy win for Buffalo as they get a 2015 first round pick (and likely a 2014 first as well), chris stewart, Halak and a really high ceiling prospect, in Carrier, for what were essentially 2 guys that were gone after this year.

On the other hand if Ott and Miller put the blues over the top for a cup final appearance/win than it is hard to argue that the deal is a loss, particularly given the organizational depth of the Blues.

Regardless with prices that high it will be really interesting to see what the front office does. Gaborik's price should be sky high, but on the flipside the cost for a D-man (i.e. Edler, Meyers, Erhoff), or foward with term could be prohibitive.

I think both teams did good in the trade with an edge to St L because I really think they got the best of it for the short term.

The Jackets situation is much different than either of those teams. Close to the playoffs but not, imo, a serious contender for a deep run. Therefore, I don't see them being willing to give up a kings ransom for a rental or two. On the other hand, if Jarmo & JD don't see the long term stardom for all of our players like some of us do, they could try for another Gabby like acquisition - someone with a bit of term.

My guess is that our dealings will be small scale if at all.

Small scale is my guess too. I think Gabby is our "acquisition" this year and JD/JK don't do anything major right now.

To be fair to the Sabres, Pat LaFontaine has flamed out at a PoHO job in less than 90 days with two different organizations. Maybe he's just really bad at working with other people?

While its a cool gimic, the outdoor games need to be an exhibition, not a regular season game that points could actually mean something. I'd hate to miss the playoffs by 1 point and have lost in a game like tonight where the conditions are not good for a regulation game

That doesn't bother me at all. Shootouts, bad calls and crazy stuff like the LA coulombs thing or the Detroit puck in the over-the-boards netting would drive me much crazier than losing an outdoor game. The conditions are the same for both teams.

I agree they need to go back to one Winter Classic every year and one Heritage Classic maybe every three years.

The wind in windy city is just crazy,
The ice has covered the streets and cars,
United Center seems so nice and cozy.

I too am wondering if this St. Louis / Buffalo trade really made the Blues better. Going to have to wait and see.

Think it all depends on Miller...he gives them a a chance to have higher ceiling, if.........

...they can score a single goal in foreseeable future.
They're scoreless in 2 games after the break.

:handclap:

Good point!........though Hitch might relish the chance to figure out how to be the first coach to win one without scoring a goal......my take was more pointed to the playoffs.

Chicago ultra impressive tonight.....Crosby has been a non-factor

As I watch this game is a reality check for me, the BlueJackets are not any where near being able to beat either of these two teams in a 7 game series
