Holy crap that's terrible. If Rimer ever put out something that lousy, I'd be embarrassed.

See my signature for how I feel about persecution complexes.

I'm embarrassed anyway. What a whiny piece. Really hate the Canucks as it is, soft, whiny players always campaigning for calls on the ice - now this guy starts in.

Torts probably contemplated hanging himself after reading this.

An important detail that you are missing is that the puck was long gone when this hit occurred. It was a dirty, late hit.

More important that John Scott's actions, IMO, is: why is he on the ice in a 4-2 game?

I think the league should punish Ron Rolston too, its not the first time hes used Scott at an interesting time in the game. Hes a joke really

With the CBJ in the East my hockey life has changed... in the past the CBJ would play one night the Sabres the next... now they both play on the same night..

My Sabre watching is off 75%.... not a bad thing though, they stink anyway.

They're going to stink for a long time.

I don't think so. They have the most teens n their team right now. They have Larsson, Hackett, etc from the Pominville deal and whatever they get from the Vanek/Miller trades will help to. They just need to spend the next year or so developing and they should be in good shape.

Until they fire Regier... but listen up... they are building a great hockey invironment in downtown Buffalo.... inland canels from the lake and more... the Sabres suck but if one likes NHL hockey the future in downtown Buffalo will bleed hockey.

Even if I thought their young talent was especially talented I'd say it'll take a lot longer than a year or so. And I don't think their young players are especially talented. The Sabres don't look like a young team on the ice, they look like a bad team, outside of Vanek.

That's not to say they won't emerge as a good team, this is not predictable, I'm just saying I think the fundamentals are terrible for the Sabres.

If their kids "aren't that talented" we are in deep $#*!. Grigo, Risto, Zadorov, have a lot higher ceilings than anyone we have in our organization. Those three constitute a potential first pairing on the blueline and a potential superstar center.

By comparison the Jackets have one potential first pairing defender in Murray and we don't have a single potential star forward in the system. (Jenner, Johansen, Atkinson, Rychel, Dano may become first line players but none of them are anywhere close to superstar material). We are rebuilding our culture, however our team is not going to be an elite team unless we get some amazing luck with the prospects we have. We simply don't have the elite talent necessary to compete for championships while teams like Buffalo are stockpiling talent during their rebuild something which we haven't had the opportunity to do.

Depending on the return for Vanek and Miller (which should be fairly high), I expect Buffalo to be a powerhouse because of the talent they have in their pipeline (provided they can create an environment more akin to Colorado than Edmonton). Particularly when you add in the fact that during the next two years they likely are going to be in the sweepstakes for 1st overall pick (Ekblad/Reinhart this year, and the next generational talent in McDavid in 2015). Buffalo could be the next Chicago/Pittsburgh if things pan out right for them.

1)If the perennial rebuilds of Florida, Long Island and Edmonton have taught me anything, its that stockpiling talented youngsters is no guarantee of success (barring Crosby level guys). I'm not saying they won't be Chicago/Pittsburgh, I just don't like the odds.

2) I'm not going to get into speculation of who the Sabres might acquire in future deals and drafts, I just think they're starting from an unspectacular base, (i.e. not a top 5 prospect pool). I'm not even sure I'd take their pool over the Jackets, as bias or not I prefer Atkinson and maybe even Wennberg to Grigo and its hard to put Risto over Murray. Perhaps they'll become a great team but I doubt it will be because of the players they have now.

The league should punish the entire Buffalo organization for continuing to employ players like Patrick Kaleta and John Scott. In my opinion, when the penalty minute to actual minutes played ratio becomes a wash, the players should be kicked out of the league. When something like this happens, it only becomes more obvious.

I have no problem with two guys squaring off and fighting in the heat of the moment ... but guys like Kaleta, Scott, McIntyre, etc, are out there to cause pain and fear in the other team. It's not a winning tactic, it's a BS, chicken**** tactic that ends careers.

yes. Happy for Mase. We'll see if it lasts, but he seems to be responding to his new environment. I hope he does well.

also, nothing but schadenfreude for the Rangers. Has the 1-2 of Howson trade and Jarmo trade KO'd them?

Sather and Holmgren both look like idiots more and more each night. I love it. Reading the Rangers boards is pure bliss. I do root for Mason to some extent in Philadelphia, it's unfortunate he's caught in another bad situation, most nights he's been really solid for them, the team in front of him just can't score goals.

Scott has never been suspended before in his career! What the hell are you talking about?

Who said anything about prior suspensions? I mentioned penalty minutes to minutes played ... but, perhaps a better point would be penalty minutes to actual productivity, as Scott in his 187 NHL games has 1 goal, 5 points, a -9 rating, and 319 penalty minutes.

To say that because he has no prior suspensions, he is some kind of saint or should be exempt from being called a worthless goon, is preposterous. The guy is out there to cause pain and instill fear into the opposition. For him to even be on the ice is walking on a razor's edge; and when something like this happens, it's always going to bring up the question of this type of player in hockey.

Maybe next time you should actually read what I said. I never once mentioned prior suspensions ... you're just looking for something to cling to because you know you've lost this argument. Decisively. If this was a clean hit, as you're claiming, there would be no match penalty, and no indefinite suspension by the league.

That might be more reasonable, considering that in penalty minutes per game players like Derek Dorsett, Jared Boll, and Brandon Prust all make guys like John Scott, Patrick Kaleta, and Matt Cooke look like choir boys. ;)

And I won't disagree that most of those players have no reason to be in the league either. In the case of guys like Dorsett and (yes, I'm about to say it) Cooke, they can at least play in other aspects of the game.

But, to say that Jared Boll is on our team for any reason other than to drop the gloves from time to time, is sugar coating the facts. The moment he drops the shoulder into someone's head from the blind side, these same questions will arise.
