They shouldn't be, but Luc and Blake are idiots, so...
It does look a little like a Trotz move from a distance. Doughty missed a ton of time, is 35, comes back ... so they want to move their young d-man, who led the team in scoring from the backend I believe, to make room on the roster? At least they don't have to put him on the waiver wire and have that blow up in their face.

It would be nice to have a pipeline again of some good young D - Molendyk, Gibson and Clarke would make a nice three-headed defenseman monster.

Please note this is an educated observation. From what I’m seeing in media and scaring circles Molendyk and Gibson might be the new Suter Weber if you’re bringing Clark, he might be the Ekholm?

Kings' prospect development has been very Predators-esque. He is a talented kid, but also definitely still has some holes in his game. It's also still just his first real season and they are still working Doughty back in. Even with the numbskulls in the Kings' FO I'd be surprised if there's much to this.

All of that is possible. It’s a first pairing and very good d man on the second pairing, which I’m a big proponent of.

Yeah, I don't think Brandt Clarke plays anything at all like Ekholm, but the guy has decent size and is just 22 and a RD to boot. He plays more like a taller Ryan Ellis. But if LA's GM is infected with some kind of brain disease and is willing to move him, we should take full advantage of that. If LA likes vets more than skilled young players, that'd be a great situation to leverage... if it truly exists. Heck, maybe we even have NMC guys who would waive for sunny LA!

A consolation prize could be Jordan Spence... if they also don't really like him anymore? :dunno:

I'd pretty much put everything but our first and maybe Molendyk on the table for Clarke.
I don't know what LA's specific needs are, but I'm imagining it is going to be for more veteran assets as opposed to prospects or picks. Like if O'Reilly "waived" his unwritten NMC, or other guys would, etc. Since that seems to be their MO per their fans? :dunno:

What do you want bare minimum out of players in trade deadline?

We are here at a lot of smoke about Schenn and we have a hope that Nyqvist get something. But what are you looking for? What is the bare minimum of what would make you happy for each player in a trade. You want more but what would be the bare minimum that would make you satisfiedI

I think the bare minimum for me would just be to trade Nyquist and Schenn for "something". I'm not too picky about the return... it's more the simple fact of trading them at all would acknowledge something about our team status and what value those players really represent to us moving forward (i.e. "nil").

Nyquist = 3rd Rnd pick
Schenn = 5th Rnd pick

... would "satisfy" me. At the barest minimum.

Now, if we could parlay a buyer's market into a 2nd for either of them, or a decent prospect, that would certainly be better, and I don't think it should be outside the realm of possibility either.

If Trotz wanted to score bonus points beyond "bare minimum", he'd also trade Sissons, and anything at all he could get for Smith or McCarron would be welcomed. I don't think any of the other "dregs" of our roster could possibly be worth even a 7th round pick. :dunno: (It sucks that Lauzon got hurt and probably can't be traded).

Then if he wanted to go mega-bonus... trade O'Reilly and Saros... but I am not going to invest even the faintest iota of hope into that happening. :baghead:

Slightly disappointed we didn't pick up Välimäki. A big-body D who can skate as well and should have some upside to his game as well.

A lot better option for the future than many of the defensemen we have here.

The only minimum is "something," defined as a draft pick of any kind or a prospect of any kind who's young. Holding on to any of our vets who don't have an NMC is a failure. We have hit rock bottom. Act accordingly.

This is especially true of guys like Schenn who, IMO, are worse than replacement level. ROR is the only one that I'm in the camp of "only trade for a premium asset, otherwise keep". For Schenn, Lauzon (weird with injury), Sissons, Smith, Nyquist, and McC, they have to go if we have offers. I would love to have 3-5 roster players moved out in the next two weeks, with spots given to younger guys from MKE and/or reclamation projects.
