Fiala had 0.475 PPG for Nashville. Fiala has 1.183 PPG AFTER NASHVILLE.

That is 2.49 times the point production that he had for the Preds.

Is that the result of more NHL experience, or better coaching? I believe that latter.

He tried to be Gretzky in Milwaukee too. It did not work well in some games. I thought that he came to Milwaukee before he was mentally mature enough to play in the AHL.
And still a turnover machine that has had some LA fans wanting him gone. He may be scoring more but he is still the same ole Fiala

Waive Del G so carrier can be traded for Barron.

Well atleast we got out of Carrier's contract. Barron isnt great but is only 23. Now if we can get something out of lauzon, ill be content. Irritated we waived fabbro to keep any of these players we later waived or traded

Agreed. I'm not nearly as impressed with Cozens as a lot of posters here seem to be. I'd be happy to give him a spot, but without giving up much of anything. Sabres fans seem to think he's worth more than a 1st...yikes.
Oh his value is more than a 1st, it just shouldn't be that and a really good young prospect. He's had one good year out of 3, that ain't someone you bet the farm on yet.

Ehhh...not much more. Like at all. I'd go the Vegas 1st and a prospect we'd likely never see outside of Milwaukee. And I really wouldn't be happy with that, to be honest.

Since the one good season, he's done nothing but get a terrible contract and regress. Just like the Carrier trade, I think many are overlooking the contract. 7 years at $7.1M is terrible. Pretty telling that he got paid and immediately started to suck, too.

Well there was also a coaching change and pretty big shift in philosophy there too.

Does Novak have a net positive value currently from a GM's perspective? Kind of a soft 40-point player. His deal isn't bad, but does he move the needle much? I'm not a fan, so I feel like I am looking at things with bias.

His contract is perfectly acceptable and for a team looking for cheapish depth i would think so.
Eh I'll reserve being happy based on what we gave up
Same. After seeing a struggling kakko being traded for peanuts, i really dont want to give up anything i view as value. It is a heck of a risk for us that he can not only turn things around and get back to his single season high but we would need him to hit that next level. I dont know if he will but that contract is unsightly if he doesnt.

Maybe, but giving up more than a 1st and taking on another 5 years and $35 million would be a huge gamble on that being right. Not one I'd be overly excited to take.
You take that gamble if you think that one season was the norm and the past 1 1/2 have been exceptions. But it's as likely that he is another Johansen who has already had his best season before we even acquire him. Positive assets and taking on a $7M+ contract for a guy that's probably a 50-55 point player would be a tough swallow.
