Jiricek just doesn't seem at all to me like the kind of player the Bruno/Trotz regime goes for? A young guy who might have a bit of an entitled attitude and not ready to pay his dues? Um...

I don't know, the whole thing is very dysfunctional and illogical here atm, but I guess on the flip side maybe if they trade for him, he is "Their Guy", so that will trump any of the other issues with his age or attitude? :dunno:

He's a downgrade to Fabbro in the short term, just look at how the Jackets handled it.

If we make a "big BT move", I still think it will be to bring in another 32+ year old winger.

Seravalli also reporting that a move is "relatively imminent".
Hedger and Portzline (CBJ beat writers for the Columbus Dispatch and The Athletic respectively) have both disagreed. Hedger's track record isn't great, but Portzline's fairly reliable. Portzline does note that "teams are talking" so a trade can't be ruled out, but I wouldn't hold my breath quite yet.

I feel like if you have an asset like Jiricek, you probably don't want to "sell low" on him? A 21-year old RD who was a #6 overall pick and you have total control over him for this year and next... I think if you're actually a sane GM you stay on the runway with this?

The BJs aren't over any barrel here, they aren't a contending team looking to add key elements for a Cup run. I would let things play out a while longer. :dunno:

Apparently, Columbus hasn't gotten the offers they want for a one-for-one deal for Jiricek so they're now listening on packages as well.

Fortunately, we could be strong in that category. I also wonder if they'd be interested in Chrona as their goalie pipeline seems pretty bare.

Chrona

Maybe a Nyquist or Sissons as well?

We can't keep trading goalies, Chrona is basically all we have at this point.
We have
Jatkola - started hot this season in the Liiga but has crashed back down to earth
Milota - pretty underwhelming stats in the Q
Haider - looks ok in the ECHL... but it is the ECHL
Chrona

All though FAR from a sure thing. Chrona is the only one that i think has a shot at panning out to backup quality. We should probably invest a couple mid and late round picks to shoring up future goaltending.

Probably should have done that before we traded off the only goalie prospect we had.

He's playing well in Vancouver. He came totally out of nowhere too. Where's was he hiding? :sarcasm:
I thought he was "alright" for us. But maybe by sitting so long and being a little underutilized with the heavy loads Saros was carrying, he sometimes had a little rust. Even so, his numbers were generally good. I still don't think he's more than a backup longer term. But he's a legit and quality backup, one who could have been starting 30 games instead of 20, and one who could take over for a stretch if the #1G got hurt.

I guess he must have asked for 2x$2M to stay, and the Preds didn't have time to circle back to him. Or like Askarov he wanted to go somewhere out of the shadow of Saros. Either way, it's too bad we lost him. Wedgewood might finally be coming around a little, and his track record hasn't been much different than Lankinen's the last few years. But we definitely didn't fix something that wasn't broke with that swap.

Good for Lankinen that he stuck to his guns, landed a spot, and is lining himself up for a better payday. He probably had lots of offers in Europe once the goalie carousel ran out and he was left unsigned. But he hung in there, got his chance, and is making the most of it now.
