I wonder what Bahl's next deal will look like. He's in a similar situation to where Ras was during the 2019-20 season as a younger emerging top 4 defenseman (obviously different styles of game, with Ras's being a more offensive style that pays higher). Ras's deal 6 x 4.55 was for 5.58% of the cap in year 1... would 6 or 7 x 4.5 make sense for Bahl? It'd be for 5.11% of the projected 88m cap next season and would be comparable to the 5-8 year extensions signed by Rasmus Sandin (Signed in 23-24 season), Matthias Samuelsson (signed in 22-23 season) and Mikey Anderson (signed in 22-23 season)
Bahl has been a stud next to Ras this season. Very smart move on Conroys part. Reminds me of a young Regehr. Steady, stay at home, physical and a huge reach. I think if the salary is in the 4mil range the length is 4-5 years. I dont see him willing to sign long term with the cap guaranteed to go up.

With Calgary sniffing around young centres, anyone feeling like Coronato might be the piece that we go change-for-change with?

Not if its middle 6. Top 6 maybe. I wonder if its Conroy keying on a team that needs the cap now or in the future to be honest. A middle 6 that is already making decent money or is an upcoming RFA who will need more money on a cap strapped team. Coronato is definitely a top 6 winger with top line potential.

Not even slightly to be honest. I don’t think in this deal our main piece going would be a kid, then it’s just a lateral move, and one we’d likely lose considered the extra value needed to swap a W for a C. Coronato is also on the precipice, he’s not quite there but he’s extremely close to being a full timer. Calgary probably values those a lot more given the re-tool.

If anything it’ll be the same as all of our other trades, although we probably would have to add some of our excess of picks depending on the player traded/added. Andersson, Backlund, Coleman, and less likely Kadri are our only remaining trade chips left after the purge (Kuzmenko and Mantha too, but I doubt they have that value), one of them would be going for this hypothetical young centre.

I love the flames this year, everyones hungry and playing the right way.

Big time underdog, I said they would surpise. They can contend if they want to, there in the game with all the big dogs, and would easily be a better 7 game playoff team then the oilers or leafs.

Very much like vegas after the expansion draft. Everyone hungry.

On another note, Zegras looks terrible this year 3pts in 12 games, -6.... buy low sell high. Time to dangle a carrot Craig.

Zegras and Wright were mentioned a few times since off season. Depends on the price. Quant for Qual moves only that don't mess up our developing core.

I feel like Zegras and Huberdeau would mesh well.

Honestly, if there's one guy I think that's a great short term and long term fix for our roster for a reasonable price (but not cheap), I want Jokiharju. A defensive RD. And young enough to continue growing with the core. I think he'd match well with Weegar to round out our top 4.

I wonder what the plus on someone like Miromanov Buffalo would demand. Saves them some cap space, they get a RD replacement (albeit downgrade) and they get an off roster asset. I think Clifton could get elevated and Miromanov plays third pair for them?

Jokiharju? Defensive RD? Dunno about that one Figgy. I don't think he's much better than Miromanov and I certainly wouldn't add much to get him. Just never been much of a fan I guess, and RD is really the last thing we should be looking at.

Now if they want to throw him into a Andersson or Kadri for Cozens deal I'd be alright with that.

He's at least one of the most defensive minded dman on a young d corps that gets cratered often. I wouldn't offer the value of a late first for him, but if it's a second or less, I'd really want to try and nab him. A throw in for a bigger trade? Absolutely I'd be interested.

IIRC he plays top pairing often opposite of either Dahlin or Power, so it's not like he gets great support in case something happens. If anything it's the opposite. IIRC he's often on the top pairing? IMO that's too high.

Then his skills are decent, but none elite. So if he's paired with a free wheeling type guy like Dahlin, he might have to dig deeper to make up for those risky plays. TBH, I get Olli Maatta type vibes from him. Once he's asked to play a role that is less beyond his capabilities (ie: #4/5) I think he'd flourish and perhaps even slowly develop towards a 3/4. I also think that the style of game in Chicago and Buffalo and the style they play haven't been great fits for him. A guy like Huska could probably really help him consolidate his game into something more effective, especially with the d corps we have and the d corps we expect to graduate in the coming few years.

I honestly think he's a better fit for us to round out the top 4 than Miromanov. But that's more due to style of play and system. Miromanov just jumps up a little too much. IIRC, Bahl and Pachal are our guys who don't prefer to jump up as much. Swapping him with another guy more content to sit closer to the blue line on the regular, I think our d corps would be a little better balanced.

Sucks for Mantha.

But Mantha played exclusively in the top 9 for the Flames and yet they recall a pure 4th liner, if that. Kerins and Pelletier should just ask for trades at this point

On a personal level it sucks that Mantha is out for the year on a show me contract, could potentially be career ending at his age. On a Flames level, sucks that a guy we won't be able to get any draft capital for him. It looked like such an innocent hit to take out his f***ing ACL, he barely touched it.
