Belmont (New York):

• Manny Franco, the winningest rider at the meet, had three victories.
• Junior Alvarado and Kendrick Carmouche added two wins apiece. The only other rider to win was Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the finale.
• Race 7: The 1-to-5 favorite, owned by one of the best groups in North America -- Klaravich Stables -- was defeated by Manny Franco's 18-to-1 shot which was his third winner of the day.
• Race 5: An awesome finish. The 4 led most of the way, was caught by the 9 who appeared ready to gallop home to victory, the 4 recovered steps before the finish to pull ahead for a split second, but on the far outside came the charging 2 and 8. The race finished 8-2-4-9. It was a treat.
• Race 2: Yikes! The $1 double paid $3.05

Meadowlands (New Jersey):

• Race 6: The $1 Pick 6 paid over $53,000.

Laurel (Maryland):

• Race 2: Brooks Robinson won and paid $24. The 4-year-old won for the second time in 9 starts.
• Race 6 and 7: Julian Pimentel/Michael Trombetta combined to win both races.

Gulfstream (Florida):

• Race 3: Mike Napoli owned the winner. The former baseball player is having an exceptional first year as a T-bred owner. He has 43 wins with 105 starters.

Keeneland (Kentucky):

• Race 1: Lucky 13 -- post position not the name of the winner -- won at 26-to-1 and topped a $2 exacta that nearly paid $500.
• Race 5: The $.50 Pick 5 paid over $13,000.
• Race 9: Oleksandra (Joel Rosario/Neil Drysdale) won the $150,000 Grade 3 feature. Rosario did what he does best: close with fury.

• Javier Castellano's 12 wins are twice as many as his nearest challenger.

• Chad Brown had three winners combined at Woodbine and Belmont including two more graded stakes. He should be a layup for Trainer of the Year.

Belmont (New York):

• Joel Rosario won three times including the final two races for Chad Brown.
• Race 9: New and Improved (Joel Rosario/Chad Brown) came from Connecticut in a typical Rosario finish to capture the Grade 2 $300,000 stakes for 2-year-old fillies. Klaravich Stables, one of the top ownerships in the land, won.
• Race 2: Junior Alvarado, Joe Bravo and Mike Luzzi finished in a rare 1-2-3. I couldn't have written that top three any better.

Laurel (Maryland):

• Race 6: Greek God was out for the 84th time and won for the 13th time. The 8-year-old was sent off at 30-to-1.

Charles Town (West Virginia):

• Card: All nine races under the lights had purses of $75,000 or more.
• Race 7: A 1-to-9 shot won the race and the $175,000 purse but a 115-to-1 shot finished third.
• Race 8: Castle Bound (Gustavo Larrosa/James Casey) shocked the crowd with a 68-to-1 shot victory in the $300,000 West Virginia breeders Classic Stakes. The winner paid $138.40/469.20/$67.00. The $1 exacta was a staggering $1,853.50. The $1 tri was $4,400+.

• Luca Panici was a perfect 2 2-0-0. He seems to be comfortable at the old Calder oval.

Keeneland (Kentucky):

• Race 10: The $1 Pick 6 paid over $36,000.
• Race 9: Cambier Parc (John Velazquez/Chad Brown) won the Grade I $500,000 Queen Elizabeth Challenge Cup. The winner is 8 5-0-1 lifetime and has consecutive wins under Johnny V.

• Race 6: The $.50 tri returned over $1,200.
• Race 5: A 65-to-1 shot finished second and paid $54.40 to place.

Santa Anita (California):

• Race 6: Matera (Drayden Van Dyke/Dan Ward), who was purchased for $1.4 million as a yearling in 2018 at Keeneland, broke her maiden in her third start. She was previously ridden by Mike Smith twice. Ward has replaced Jerry Hollendorfer who is suspended at the track. She hooked up in a good battle with Gingham (Jorge Diaz, Jr./Bob Baffert) who finished third for the third time in three lifetime starts.

Woodbine (Ontario):

• Race 9: Desert Encounter (Andrea Atzeni/David Simcock) won the Grade I $800,000 Canadian International Stakes. The jockey rides in Europe mostly but he has found success in North America in the past. The Irish-bred 7-year-old got left at the start but powered home to victory with an impressive run and joined the millionaire's club.

• Race 8: Starship Jubilee (Luis Contreras/Kevin Attard) won the Grade I $600,000 E.P. Taylor Stakes. The 6-year-old Florida-bred won for the 14th time in 31 starts but that includes a fantastic 13 6-2-1 mark at Woodbine.

• Race 7: City Boy (Jesse Campbell/Michael Keogh), the second longest shot on the board in a field of ten, won the Grade 2 $250,000 Nearctic Stakes.

Belmont (New York):

• Race 7: Red Knight (Junior Alvarado/Bill Mott) won the $100,000 1 1/2 mile Point of Entry Stakes. An ideal ride by the rider who chased down 52-year-old Edgar Prado, who returned from injury this past Friday after a long layoff, who threatened to wire the field on a 22-to-1 shot. Prado, a member of the hall of Fame with over 7,000 career wins, doesn't ride often in New York.

​

• Race 9: An extremely close finish in which John Velazquez held off a charging Eric Cancel at 23-to-1. The latter seems to excel in New York finales. The finish was 1-2-3-4.
• John Velazquez won the opener and finale.

Monmouth (New Jersey):

• Jockey standings: The incredible jockey race between Nik Juarez (23%) and Paco Lopez (34%) is now tied with 106 wins apiece. Lopez began the meet suspended and Juarez had what was a sizeable advantage over the rest of the colony. There are just two live dates remaining, the next two Sundays.

Gulfstream (Florida):

• Race 7: A horse trained by Elizabeth Dobles was taken down from the win and a 25-to-1 shot elevated to victory. Sacrilege! Dobles has won just once with her last 24 starters.

Keeneland (Kentucky):

• McLean Robertson nearly had a hat trick with a 64-to-1 bomber who was nosed out on the bob. He was 0-fer at the meet but the successful Minnesota based trainer showed why he is a solid conditioner today with two wins and two place finishes among his seven starters. This is a tough meet with nationally renowned connections. He now has as many wins at the meet as Todd Pletcher, Steve Asmussen and Wesley Ward.
  • Race 3: McLean Robertson's starter was sent off at 64-to-1 and lost by the slight bob. The winner won on the track previously in one other start. The payout was enormous for those who played across the board. The $2 exacta was gigantic and roughly $1,300. Imagine the payoff if the bob went the other way?!?!

She was entered in a graded stakes on Friday but scratched in what was a tough field. Hotshot Anna has won four in a row, eight of her last nine -- mostly at Presque Isle (PA) and Arlington (IL) and is 23 11-6-1 lifetime.

• Holiday: Columbus Day racing in the U.S. at some major tracks.
• Florent Geroux, a top rider in North America, was injured Sunday morning while exercising a horse and will be out of action due to a broken sternum. An unofficial estimate puts him out 2-to-3 months which means he will not ride in the Breeders' Cup the first weekend of November.

Belmont (New York):

• Race 8: Lucullan (Luis Saez/Kiaran McLaughlin) won the Grade 2 $200,000 Knickerbocker Stakes. Catholic Boy (Javier Castellano/Jonathan Thomas), who has earned over $2,000,000, dropped to 13 7-2-0 with an uncharacteristic fourth place. Per David Greening (DRF): Despite the 4th-place finish, trainer Jonathan Thomas did not rule out the BC for Catholic Boy. And if he goes, and it's far from certain that he would, it be would be the Classic. "To me, watching that, he would definitely scream a little more real estate," Thomas said.

• Hector Diaz, Jr., who was DQ'd from victory in the opener, was the winning rider in the finale.
• Jose Lezcano rode two winners, the only rider or trainer with multiple wins on the day.
• Handle: Close to $6,000,000.

Gulfstream Park West (Florida):

• Race 2: Bodexpress (Emisael Jaramillo/Gustavo Delgado) broke his maiden as he wired the field at 1-to-9. He is the horse who unseated John Velazquez at the Preakness Stakes this summer.
• Race 7: The 5-to-2 favorite was DQ'd and a 39-to-1 shot elevated to victory. The winner paid $80.80/$33.40/$20.20. An odd sequence of events in the last stages of the race led to the DQ.

• Race 9: Irish Expectations (Kevin Mendez/Jose Chavez) shocked at 70-to-1 in winning the finale. The first-time starter was bred in Texas and paid $142.60/$45.80/$18.00. The $.50 Pick 3 was over $8,500. The $.50 Pick 4 paid over $13,000. The $.10 super was a remarkable $8,200.+ But the big daddy payout was a $.50 trifecta for more than $52,000. A stunning figure.

Santa Anita (California):

• Doug O'Neill had a natural hat trick beginning with race 5. The first two winners were sent off as favorites. O'Neill is the leading trainer at the meet with 15 wins.

Century Downs (near Calgary, Alberta):

• Race 9: Bar No Q (Quincy Welch/Ron Grieves), the second highest odds in a field of 11, pulled a stunner at 57-to-1 to win the $100,000 Harvest Plate. The winner paid $116.80/$41.40/$10.80. The $1 Pick 4 paid over $19,000.

Gulfstream Park West (Florida):

• Race 4: Over $1.6 million was bet in the race of which $1.25 million was added to the existing Pick 5 pool which exceeded $1.4 million.
• Paco Lopez went 4 2-2-0. He is 16 7-5-2 since October 13 and that covers three tracks.

Keeneland (Kentucky):

• Race 9: The $1 Pick 6 paid out over $57,000.
• Race 8: Marzo (Ricardo Santana, Jr./Michael Maker), who was purchased at the 2016 Keeneland September yearling sale for a cool $1,000,000, won the $150,000 Grade 3 Sycamore Stakes at 14-to-1. The 4-year-old gelding is now 16 4-4-3. He was claimed for $62,500 in August at Kentucky Downs. Santana picked up the mount for the injured Florent Geroux.

• Tyler Gaffalione, Julien Leparoux and Ricardo Santana, Jr. won twice. The first two riders won consecutive times.

Hawthorne (Illinois):

• Race 3: Isaiah Wiseman won for the first time. The jockey had 12 starts without a prior victory.
• Race 8: A 100-to-1 shot ridden by Isaiah Wiseman finished third and boosted a $.50 tri which returned over $1,700.

What: Two-day event in which the world's greatest race horses vie for over $30,000,000 in purse money. There will be 14 total races spanning two days that comprise the Breeders' Cup. Other races contested those days will be on the card but not part of the Breeders' Cup.
History: 36th edition, inaugurated in 1984. Next year's Breeders' Cup will be November 6-7 at Keeneland.

• Mike Smith will ride Yoshida (Bill Mott) in the Breeders' Cup Classic. Bob Baffert removed Smith from McKinzie following that horse's most recent race and named Joel Rosario his rider. Rosario formerly rode Yoshida. Oh, imagine the potential chatter if Smith attempts to tie or break Jerry Bailey's all-time record for Grade I victories as the Breeders' Cup Classic unfolds.
• Jerry Hollendorfer, who is suspended from Santa Anita, will not be allowed to enter horses in his name at the Breeders' Cup. There is a provision that Hollendorfer, or any trainer could have run horses since it is the Breeders' Cup and not the host track's call. However, the committee supported Santa Anita's suspension.
• Catholic Boy, who won multiple graded stakes, has been retired following a lifetime mark of 13 7-2-0 and over $2,000,000 in earnings.
• Shifting rider assignments for tomorrow include:
  • David Cohen will be at Woodbine.
  • Mike Smith, Drayden van Dyke and John Velazquez (who was there today) will be at Keeneland.
  • Javier Castellano, Irad Ortiz, Jr. and Jose Ortiz will return to New York and ride at Belmont.
• Dylan Davis is scheduled to ride the entire card at Belmont. He has mounts in all 11 races.

Belmont (New York):

• Manny Franco was winless on eight mounts but holds a 6-win lead atop the rider standings.
• Race 4: I am not sure what was ongoing with Mike Luzzi's mount but he was dead last and about 10 lengths behind near the half mile, seemingly without effort, then flew at the end and nearly caught the winner. A better start would have likely had a different outcome.

Laurel (Maryland):

• Race 10: Ashley Castrenze withstood an objection by Trevor McCarthy and won the finale with a good ride though her mount may have veered slightly. Nonetheless, when Ashley Castrenze wins, hurricanes produce soft breezes, dentist visits are pleasant experiences and mosquito bites are ouchless. The one damper: She went in the gate at 7-to-2 and came out at 3-to-2.

Keeneland (Kentucky):

• The Ortiz brothers combined to win just one of 12 with no place finishes.
• Race 4: Joe Rocco, on board a 12-to-1 shot and down four lengths in the stretch, outrode Joel Rosario who was on the lead with the favorite. Not exactly the expected end to that race.
• Race 6: Bayerness (Tyler Gaffalione/Cherie DeVaux) won her maiden race. This was the trainer's sixth lifetime win. The former assistant to Chad Brown won the race in which her mentor also entered.
• Race 9: Lady Prancealot (Joe Bravo/Richard Baltas) was sent off at 10-to-1 and won the Grade 3 $150,000 feature race for 3-year-old fillies. Bravo caught John Velazquez who rode the favorite to a second place finish. That is the second huge win for Bravo in the past few days. Michael and Jules Iavarone own the winner. Michael was the owner of 2008 Kentucky Derby + Preakness Stakes winner Big Brown then stepped aside from T-bred ownership for many years before returning in 2017.

• Race 10: The $.50 Pick 5 paid over $21,000.

Gulfstream Park West (Florida):

• Edgard Zayas rode three winners.
• Paco Lopez went 5 2-0-0. He is 21 9-5-2 since October 13 and that covers three tracks.

Delta Downs (Louisiana):

• Karl Broberg, the winningest trainer in North America this year with 466 victories, added four to his collection with eight starters. He has 127 more wins than his closest challenger Steve Asmussen.

Remington Park (Oklahoma):

• High purses: Eight of the ten races featured purses of $100,000 or more.
• Richard Eramia, who rode the entire card of 10 races, and David Cabrera both had three wins apiece.
• Zapit (Ken Tohill/Timothy Martin) was sent off the longest shot on the board at 94-1 and won the $100,000 Oklahoma Classics Lassie Stakes. The winner paid $190.40/$39.40/$20.60. The 2-year-old filly was coming out of a 4th place finish in her maiden race. The $.50 Pick 4 paid over $10,000. This was the final race on the card.

Santa Anita (California):

• J. Keith Desormeaux trained the winners of the first two races.
• Abel Cedillo/Doug O'Neill combined to win twice.

Belmont (New York):

• Card: A big day for New York breds. Every horse entered was bred in the state. Eight of the 11 races were purses of $100,000 or more.
• Summary/Handle: An entertaining day the oval. Over $12,000,000 bet.
• Jose Ortiz was 5 4-0-0 and won for four different trainers.
• Junior Alvarado had two wins and rode lights out with a 20-to-1 shot finishing second to a prohibitive favorite in the 10th.
• Race 8: The Ortiz boys finished 1-2 in the $250,000 Sleepy Hollow in a thriller. Captain Bombastic (Jose Ortiz/Jeremiah Englehart) won and paid over $18. Awesome name for a horse who is now 2 2-0-0. And you know what else helps...

• Race 7: The Ortiz boys finished 1-2.
• Race 5: Mr. Buff (Junior Alvarado/John Kimmel) won the $300,000 Empire Classic, the biggest purse on the card.

Laurel (Maryland):

• Card: A large day for Maryland breds. Seven of the 12 races were purses of $100,000 or more. An all-Maryland bred day.
• Summary: Laurel stepped in the spotlight and additional people are starting to take notice.
• Race 8: The $2 exacta paid $1,146.80. The $2 tri returned $8,646.60. The $1 super paid over $68,000.
• Race 7: Hello Beautiful (Sheldon Russell/Brittany Russell) romped to victory in a $100,000 race. The married jockey-trainer combination have an affinity for finishing in the money when teamed. Brittany's smile could light up a large metropolitan city following this race. She is 14 5-1-2 at the meet and almost always uses her husband to ride her horses. Good for them! Feel good story of the day.

• Race 6: The $2 Pick 3 was a massive $18,611.80.
• Race 5: The winner paid $137/$43/$19.80. The $2 Pick 5 paid over $200,000. The $2 Pick 4 paid over $10,000. The $2 Pick 3 paid over $5,400. The $2 double paid over $1,100.
• Race 4: The $1 super paid close to $50,000.
• Race 1: Three across the wire won by 59-year-old Chuckie... oops Charles C. Lopez with his lone ride of the day.
• Paco Lopez had a victory on three mounts but also got caught in the stretch while on board a 4-to-5 shot by Sheldon Russell. Lopez is 24 10-6-2 at four tracks since October 13.

Gulfstream (Florida):

• Leonel Reyes had four wins. He is in sync at the former Calder with a meet-leading 16 wins.

Keeneland (Kentucky):

• Race 11: Mitchell Murrill brought home a 23-to-1 shot in the finale. The winners came down from Illinois and had a nice victory. Murrill is from Alabama and played football in years past.
• Race 9: Bell's the One (Corey Lanerie/Neil Pessin) won the Grade 2 $250,000 Raven Run. The 3-year-old filly ended a 4-race losing streak. She began her career with 4 wins and thus has 5 wins in 9 lifetime starts.

• Race 8: Tough Irma (Shaun Bridgmohan/Cipriano Contreras) wired the field at 18-to-1.
• Race 7: Wayne O. (Tyler Gaffalione/Steve Asmussen) won the MSW at 5-to-1. Asmussen finished 1-2.
• Race 5: A good race between the 3 and 10 in which the 3 led, fell behind for a moment and then recovered.
• Race 2: Sophie Doyle picked up the mount and won. The runner up was 72-to-1. The $2 exacta was a remarkable $1,252.80. The tri more than $9,700.
• McLean Robertson had no winners but finished 5 0-1-3 and brought home some nice prices to fill exotics.

Santa Anita (California):

• Flavien Prat won four times with five mounts.

Woodbine (Ontario):

• Race 3: Jean Elizabeth (Eurico Da Silva/Larry Rivelli) won the Grade 3 $125,000. The Illinois-bred won for the 9th time in 15 starts.

Belmont (New York):

• Race 8: Summer Fortune (Junior Alvarado/Jeremiah Englehart) wired the field in a $75,000 MSW. Much anticipation with some of the first time starters including the prohibitive favorite Orsay (Irad Ortiz, Jr./Chad Brown) who was trounced and finished third. The 2-year-old filly was purchased by Larry Best of OXO Holdings (ex-Boston Scientific exec.) for $1.2 million in 2017 and is a daughter to American Pharoah. The winner on the other hand was bought for the comparatively small sum of $200,000.
• Race 9: Xenobia (John Velazquez/Jonathan Thomas) won the Grade 3 $200,000 feature.

• Race 10: An 89-to-1 shot finished second and propped some exotics.

Monmouth (New Jersey):

• Paco Lopez (107 wins) has a 1-win lead over Nik Juarez at the meet which concludes on Sunday the only live racing date remaining on the 2019 schedule.

Laurel (Maryland):

• Track: Racing was off the turf. Whatever bad weather hit the mid-Atlantic seemed to be isolated to Laurel.
• Race 1: The Russells teamed for another victory. Brittany, the trainer, is 15 6-1-2 (40%/60%) at the meet.

Keeneland (Kentucky):

• Race 1: Trainer Kellyn Gorder had his first win since April at Oaklawn. He has just three wins this year and had lost 33 straight. Last year he had 22 wins.
• Race 9: The $1 Pick 6 paid over $72,000.
• Leading rider at the meet: Julien Leparoux with 16 wins. He rides his best at Kentucky tracks.

Gulfstream (Florida):

• Race 1: The winner was sent off the longest shot on the board at 56-to-1 and paid $115.40/$43.40/$16.20. The $.50 tri paid over $2,100.
• Race 2: The $2 double paid $665.40.
• Race 3: The $.50 Pick 3 paid a tremendous $5,700+.

Santa Anita (California):

• Flavien Prat won the first two races which extended his exceptional streak of winning eight times in nine starts covering three days.

Woodbine (Ontario):

• Trainer Kevin Attard and jockey Eurico Da Silva teamed up to win the first three races including the $125,000 Carotene Stakes for Ontario-bred three-year-old fillies. Da Silva went on to win a total of six races from nine mounts on the day. Woodbine’s leading jockey went six-for-six earlier this year on April 28.

The Breeders' Cup fields will be announced Wednesday, October 23 and broadcast live on TVG. As a reminder this year's event, Friday (Nov. 1) will be exclusively for juveniles and Saturday (Nov. 20 for the remainder of the entries.

ARCADIA, Calif. (October 18, 2019) – Pre-entered fields for the 2019 Breeders’ Cup World Championships will be announced live on TVG along with the Breeders’ Cup website, Official Mobile App and YouTube, Twitter and Facebook pages on Wednesday, October 23 at 11:30 a.m. ET.

The 36th Breeders’ Cup World Championships, consisting of 14 races with purses and awards totaling more than $30 million, will be held for a record tenth time at Santa Anita Park on Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2.

The live stream will be hosted by Breeders’ Cup Players’ Show talent Gabby Gaudet and Mike Joyce.

Parx (Pennsylvania):

• Paco Lopez journeyed to Philly and won all three of his mounts. A different day, a different track but similar results. His streak of wins is now four. The past five days, he has been at four tracks in four states and totaled a mark of 22 9-6-2 (41%/77%).

Kentucky Derby via Breeders' Cup:

• Dale Romans has had some noteworthy 2-year-olds in recent years who got much attention as Kentucky Derby hopefuls. Dennis' Moment is his latest but this may be his most impressive in recent years.

A few(maybe even 5-6) years ago some of you may remember I did a Breeders Cup handicap challenge here.
It was a fairly simple scoring procedure.
1. Picking a winner = 1 pt for the win + the final odds. So a 9-2 winner would net the handicapper 1+4.5 for a total of 5.5 points toward their total. A 6-5 winner would net a score of 1+1.2 for a 2.2 total score.
2. The other option which is the one i use with horse racing fans i know personally is to square the #of winners then add that total with the final odds. So correctly picking 4 winners with odds of 7-5, 16-1, 3-1 and 5-2 would net a score of 4x4(winners) = 16 + 1.4 + 16 + 3 + 2.5 for a total of 38.9 points.

A few(maybe even 5-6) years ago some of you may remember I did a Breeders Cup handicap challenge here.
It was a fairly simple scoring procedure.
1. Picking a winner = 1 pt for the win + the final odds. So a 9-2 winner would net the handicapper 1+4.5 for a total of 5.5 points toward their total. A 6-5 winner would net a score of 1+1.2 for a 2.2 total score.
2. The other option which is the one i use with horse racing fans i know personally is to square the #of winners then add that total with the final odds. So correctly picking 4 winners with odds of 7-5, 16-1, 3-1 and 5-2 would net a score of 4x4(winners) = 16 + 1.4 + 16 + 3 + 2.5 for a total of 38.9 points.

If anyone is interested you can message me( I will still post all contestants picks along with running totals in 1 single post here) with your picks and scoring option 1 or 2, or if our good friend MSE doesn't mind a bit of clutter among his most informative posts perhaps we can post them here and thump our chests as our totals mount.

• THURSDAY: Racing for Thursday at Belmont will be ON the turf.

Belmont (New York):

• Card: New York was off the turf today and when that happens the race day can be lackluster.
• Races 7 and 8: Of the 24 horses entered, 16 were scratched. Rapt, ridden by Dylan Davis, came from back of the pack and won the 7th as the longest shot on the board at 5-to-1.
• Javier Castellano/Todd Pletcher combined to win twice.

Gulfstream Park West (Florida):

• Race 8: The $.20 Rainbow Six paid over $14,000 to all winners.
• Race 5: All hail Carlo Vaccarezza! Sent off at 16-to-1, the trainer won for the second time with five starters at the meet. Party at Frank & Dino's in Boca Raton tonight!
• Races 3 and 4: Victor Lebron, who has over 1,100 wins, finished the day a perfect 2 2-0-0.
• Victor Barboza, Jr., who did not enter today, is having a stellar meet. He leads all trainers with seven victories and is 15 7-3-1 (47%/73%). He captured the Gulfstream summer title with 28 wins.
• Paco Lopez won one of three starts, His recent mark at four tracks in four states within the past week is 25 10-6-3 (40%/76%).

Keeneland (Kentucky):

• Card: A good day of racing spread near evenly amongst winners.
• Race 5: One of the best races of the day. Three across the wire. My pick -- McLean Robertson, trainer, went to the lead but was narrowly caught by two horses as each crossed.
• Julien Leparoux leads all riders with 17 victories at the meet.

Belmont (New York):

• Race 4: One of the best races of the day despite the short field. Javier Castellano held off a charging Luis Saez.

Laurel (Maryland):

• Canceled: A water pipe caused the cancellation of today's card. The issue is expected to be resolved in time for tomorrow's card to be held.

Charles Town (West Virginia):

• Race 5: A $124 winner. The $1 super was a massive $78,000.
• Race 6: The $2 double paid $1,167.60.
• Race 7: The $2 Pick 3 paid over $14,000.
• Race 8: The $2 Pick 4 paid a staggering $146,282.60.

Keeneland (Kentucky):

• The crowd: Youthful yet intuitive. A good showing. But Keeneland needs to re-design its simulcast display especially the numbers at the bottom. It is the blight of the entertaining meet.
• Tyler Gaffalione had three wins and hit the board five times on six mounts. He is now tied for second at the meet in wins. He had a successful Kentucky Downs' meet, too.
• Race 9: Solomonic (Tyler Gaffalone/Aaron Shorter) was third at the 1/2 mile but won the race by more than nine lengths with an impressive punishing drive.
• Race 6: Much criticism by some to Brian Hernandez, Jr. for the ride on board the place finisher. I don't know if the jockey is to blame but he seemed to struggle in the key portion of this race.

Hawthorne (Illinois):

• Simulcast: It is worth repeating. I am pleased with the display on the simulcast feed. Easy to read features.

Santa Anita (California):

• Agapito Delgadillo, at the age of 53, was a perfect 3-for-3. He had a hat trick for the first time since 2014.

That is the opinion of many. Have you seen the layout? The numbers at the bottom are scrunched. Up close, the images aren't as difficult but at a distance it is quite a struggle. There is not enough separation between each number and the odds and to players who rely on such numbers it is not convenient. In short fields, it isn't as bad as say a 12-horse races.
