Arizona Coyotes Lounge XXV

Is Roenick still canceled by the woke freaks? He'd be great to get on the broadcast team even if it's just in the studio. I think he still lives here.

I don't know about being "canceled by the woke freaks" but Roenick's a dipshit in general so if he ever got on our broadcast team I'd immediately find somewhere else to consume the product.

JR will never work in television again haha. There is nooooo way he would make it in today’s climate. Too many skeletons in that closet. He says lots of very, very dumb things.

Yeah but he's funny while being super knowledgeable about hockey. People take shit too seriously these days. The tide is starting to turn though. Slowly but it's turning.

Oh no doubt. I just don’t think he has any tact. Biz gets away with stuff that almost no one else would but it’s because of his delivery and just his overall personality. People think he’s dumb but he’s actually intelligent in his approach and he’s the best thing for hockey on TV maybe ever. JR is just a different breed man…he does not think before he speaks stuff just comes out haha.

I could be wrong and have no evidence to prove it, but I think JR would have a few drinks before some of those shows that got him canceled by the woke freaks. I always liked JR dumb comments and all. To hell with the thin skinned crowd. He has his own pod cast with Tim Peel called Snipes and Stripes.

That would be pretty on brand for JR. Hopefully he’s gotten help and has found some balance in his life because he definitely had substance abuse problems.

It'd be on brand if he went into his appearances drunk. I've got a pretty thick skin and I have a somewhat transgressive sense of humor, but there's a difference between George Carlin and Louie CK, y'know?

You might call it "[cancellation] by the woke freaks" - I call it a quickly-vanishing appetite for giving assholes attention.

JR is an original coyote and took horrible injuries for phoenix.

Every time I've heard him talk, he's always seemed more loyal to the Blackhawks, which is another reason for me not to miss him at alumni events.

Not sure if anyone else used to play NHL '94 EA Sports, but it got me into hockey.

Interesting video on the making of NHL '94:

Fun fact - you can download and play NHL '94 on the XBox series if you have Game Pass!

True on JR’s blackhawks love, but the video where he talks about Hatcher breaking his jaw shows coyotes love.

Look, my opinion about JR is just that - an opinion. I know a lot of people love his brashness (although I've found that the brashness like the kind Roenick displayed in his first Coyotes stint tends to curdle with age and retirement into a really sludgy kind of curmudgeon).

If the Coyotes did install him in the broadcast team, I'm sure there'd be a lot of happy fans. I just wouldn't be one of them. Not just because I think Roenick is fundamentally one of those self-promoting me-monster kind of guys who only becomes tolerable when everyone at the party is three sheets to the wind, but also because I remember the Roenick we got in stint #2 - a guy who coasted on his reputation and who eventually ended up as a prime example of "addition by subtraction" when he left for San Jose.

I don't consider it thick skin. I just don't take things personally and I particularly don't care what offends people. I love George Carlin but I don't think Louie CK is funny. Don't give a shit if either hurts someone's feelings. It's real easy to turn the channel and go on with your life. I choose to laugh more and ignore people I don't care about or who annoy me in all aspects of my life including on this board. I just think it's a shame when a small minority cause people to lose their jobs by canceling them but thankfully that is happening less and less.

That's valid. But let's be real here, Roenick didn't get "cancelled" by a "small minority." It was more of a FAFO situation. I mean, if your thing is wearing weird clothes to work, then there might not be anything inherently bad or fireable about it, and hell, it might be entertaining for most people - but if you show up bare-assed with your twig and berries in the wind, then HR's gonna have to act.

Seems to me that "woke cancel culture" is nothing more than a political spin to fabricate anger. Personal responsibility used to be a motto of one of our political parties.

We live in an online culture now with lots of exposure and companies don't want the people working for (aka representing) them to make them look bad publicly and hurt the company. So act stupid, be a total asshole, etc. get fired. Actions have consequences.

Big shocker!
