Hell of a job by BA. Keep the picks coming.

For anyone bagging on the Coyotes as cap dumps and financial enept, Arizona is still paying these guys their salary. Its not dead money. They are paying cash for these deals and picks. Not taking on the Hossa's and Prongers like years past.

Yep. These guys are expected to play. Good job BA for not only adding a roster player to hold us over during the rebuild, but getting a 2nd to help do it. FREE. That's "killing two birds with one stone."

This deal really highlights the utter stupidity of Seattle. They could have agreed to take Gostisbehere for this much more reasonable return then held 30-50% and flipped him to another team. They likely walk away with a couple 2nds or even a decent prospect. Instead, they have a middling prospect in Twarynski and nothing else.

Not going to lie when I saw this trade at first I just saw "Gostisbehere and a 2nd" and I immediately thought this trade was with Seattle and it would have justified the Twarynski pick and was utterly floored when I saw it was AZ on the other end and was very confused how Seattle got beaten to the punch.

It's not just Fletcher, it's all the NHL GMs that were not interesting in him for free.

At some point you have to recognize the guy is a cap dump when the only teams that were willing to take him asked for assets to come with him. The cheapest cost was a 2nd and 7th, it looks like.

Am I missing something?

Fletcher just paid us two draft picks to take him off of their hands. Whether his play justifies it or not is irrelevant. Fact is he was just dumped and therefore IS a cap dump. Deservedly or not that's what happened.

I remember Flyer fans being so high on Ghist, rightfully so after his rookie season. What happened to this guy?

multiple knee injuries.

But honestly, he has not been bad like some think. If you go by analytics, he was our best Dman this year.

He was tied for 7th in the NHL in goal(for D)
He was 3rd in PP goals
He paced for 40 points this year...and was only -2(only Provy at +4 was better)

But one thing that happened, is that the last 2 years, he has gotten his least amount of PP time. He had 4 years of getting between 3:29-4:00 minutes. The last 2 years he has gotten 2:41 and 2:38. Even the Flyers fans who dislike Ghost think he should have been given more time over Provorov, etc...

AZ has had trouble scoring s Ghosts numbers could go down. Or they could use him properly and have a great player gifted to them.

Hmm have to be a reason why they traded him for a loss instead of giving him more time. Big move incoming? This trade could blow up in their faces.

Such a dynamic player his first season or so. He was fun to watch. Hope he regains some semblance of his former self and has a good career. He made some incredible plays.

They want a RHD. Fletch spent all year last year talking about how he was unable to replace Niskanen when he retired.

So he traded for Ellis. But to do so, he had to give up Myers...a RHD. So we still have not added a RHD...we have upgraded. The "add" is still to come.

Provy Ellis
Sanheim ????
York Braun
Hagg

That is what is expected to be the opening lineup. We have been linked to Jones, Risto, Larsson and Hamilton so far this offseason. To add any of them, we need cap space. Right now, we could possibly add a Savard at 4 million and still have enough to re-sign Sanheim, Hart and get a backup goalie. And as you can see, at RHD only Ellis is signed for multiple years as Braun has 1 year left. SO they are looking for a RHD with term...or signing him to term....so they don't need to try and find another top 4 RHD again next year.

But expect the Flyers to do their best to move Voracek or JVR to free up more space to try and land a RHD...and possibly a depth C.

And if they get Hamilton, for example, they will view it as Ghost+2nd+7th for Hamilton.

You know, if the Yotes would stop f***ing around and being dramatic and just leave the OEL and Garland thing alone they'd have a decent team lined up for this year

That’s great but there wasn’t a GM in the league who agreed. Not one.
At this moment. As the cap is flat, new team is in the league, many trades happening and GMs aren't in the phase of finetuning rosters by adding PP and overtime specialist who isn't 100% top pair fit. Fletcher sold when the market was the worst for him... Would be kind of acceptable if there was something bombastic announced right after he got cap to land a big name. But I don't see Landeskog or someone for who it'd be worth it to chase cap desperately is going to be a Flyer today.

Adding Savard would round out that group nicely. Much improved over last yr IMO. Trading larger contract without taking salary or retaining back is easier said than done right now.

Maybe he read some of the trade proposals here years ago (ie. Ghost for William Nylander; Ghost for Nylander + Marner, etc.) and it all went to his head. Sure glad our inexperienced GM was smarter than that.

There is more cap space available now than there will be till next offseason. The price of moving negative value contracts is only going to get higher.

If Fletcher was going to wait, he would have been waiting till summer 2022.

You betting he goes back to showing potential with a new coach/system?
Yes. Hakstol tried to ruin him and AV is just a drunken moron who wouldn't put him on the PP. I'm glad Ghost is free of those idiots. Good luck to him.

We'll see in the coming weeks, but I have a feeling a lot of teams will avoid dealing with Seattle as a silent "f*** you" for their ridiculous prices. At least they'll opt to deal with other teams first.
