Bottom line, they'll be one of the odds on favorites again next year, and every year.

And vegas will agree.

That Dom guy from the athletic said the chances of the Leafs losing in the first in every one of the last 5 years was 1.4% so this team's "achievements" are indeed noteworthy!

Bottom line, no matter how much the team embarrasses itself by playing it's worst when it all comes down to one deciding game, you'll be here making a complete fool of yourself by telling everyone how good the team is.

Looking forward to thousands of posts from you between now and our next playoff game telling us what a great team we have, how Dubas is your soulmate and everything he does is pure genius.

:biglaugh::biglaugh:

Minor detail: there is no indication management no longer wants him, or any of the core.
sure they can keep the core and go bargain bin shopping again but by this time next year we'll be talking about a new mgmt team and how they can ship out Johnny PJ's

I don't see us making the playoffs next year barring at least 3 good additions (top 6 forward to replace Hyman, top 9 winger with grit and speed, and a 2nd pairing RHD to replace Holl's overrated ass)

The core is overrated and overpaid

Atlantic Division is stronger than ever with 5 teams that the leafs will be competing with instead of the usual 2

Coaching is bad on the special teams and EVS, with this not being likely to reverse if we keep the same coaches

These players have never once shown the ability to handle adversity and next year will be the toughest/highest pressure one they come across. Expecting them to fold like a cheap tent.

Leafs aren't as young nor durable as they were in 2017-2019 with important guys like Brodie/Muzzin/JT all being potential injury concerns this year. Losing some of these guys for a long period of time kills the team as we don;t have to much depth

Disappointed, but not shocked. They put together a management team and core that reflected the sentiments of the board, not the fans. Not really surprised that it's been more than 54 years since we won the Cup with those know nothing suits pulling the strings. But hey, they get to bring in the grandkids to hang with Auston & Mitch.

Won't matter. He'll still have the same leverage. Got married here, bought a house here, had kids here, his wife got a job here, etc. MLSE set him up with the perfect retirement plan. The rest of the core will probably get the same thing if they re-sign here.

i guess your right , with 2 small children to take care of there's no way they can move and lose her paycheck ,

will there ever be a turning point with this franchise where the fans actually start to turn their backs and tune out, stop buying tickets, stop buying merchandise, etc etc

..or does the status quo remain the same as it has for the last 50 years and every game continues to sell out and all the hats and sweaters keep flying off the shelves as they always have?

you'd think in this day and age of "social" media that the turning point would have already happened. That the Leafs are no longer selling out home games and a lot of their merch remains on the shelves with no buyers.

This years was the biggest "choke"of them all, and I honestly feel ill to my stomach any time I see the faces of their core guys... I see nothing but entitled and spoiled kids, it's hard to look at them now

maybe one day the fans begin to turn their backs?

we'll see but the problem is the guy they'd love to trade has a nmc and has little or probably negative value
I think Tavares is at least a ppg player if given a bigger role on another team. He’s a first line center being utilized as a 2C, which hurts his production. Keefe needs to run two first lines and not a first and a second. Matthews’ line and Tavares’ line should each be playing 20+ minutes a night.

I think Marner is the odd man out here. Great player but no space for his cap hit on this team. Matthews can get a setup man for a far cheaper AAV.

No patience when its comes to this fan base, teams like Washington, Tampa and San Jose, Anaheim, Nashville try for years with the same core and hope you can win the cup and sometimes you don't, you don't trade proven talent for mystery boxes and lesser talent, You try to build around that talent. After 5 years, you guys are done with the current core lmfao.

Then what blows me away is people think the first two years of making the playoffs with the current core we stood a chance when our Defense core was:

2017 captials: Zaitzev, Rielly, Polak, Marincin, Hainsy, Gardnier <Really think thats a winning d-core?
2018 boston: Dermott / Gardiner / Hainsey / Zaitzev / Rielly / Muzzin < Better, still had Haisey/Gardiner / Zaitzev.

So with a legit good roster, we have had 3 years of trying to legit win the cup and we are ready to call it quits.

More disappointed the 3 rookies (Shanahan/Dubas/Keefe) are back than the big 3 contracts.

I wouldn't want Dubas making that trade anyway.

This!

I want a management overhaul with NHL experience.

Experienced President (Shanahan never held any role like that before)
Experience GM (dubas is a rookie and a very bad GM; will go down as one of the worst GMs in history)
Experience Coach (Keefe is a rookie and got outcoached twice alrady in the playoffs)

Once new experienced team is assembled; I'd like them to make the move with the core. Ideally Marner is dealt. And if Matthews isn't re-signing here then he gets dealt too

I think that this year, especially the playoffs, was awful to watch for everyone involved.

I also think cooler heads should prevail, and we'll see what this team looks like next year.

What magical trade actually makes sense for the long term?

Long term?

They seem to be in win now mode. How else would you explain all the TDL moves?

Washington didn't have the same core when they won. No Semin or Green.

San Jose and Nashville haven't won a cup and we even took on their losers in Marleau/Thornton. Following their path is just depressing if the goal is to win a cup.

Tampa's core made the finals in its second year together and lost to the Blackhawks dynasty roster. Anyone would back them at that point. If the Leafs had done that, this thread wouldn't even be up.

In comparison, Toronto has five 1st round/play-in losses in a row.

Let's assume you are right and this core was young and had a bad defensive group during those first few series. Why did they fail to make the playoffs by losing to Columbus and then choked again this season? Shouldn't they be getting better?

This group is heading in the wrong direction with a flat cap, Atlantic division opponents, and a likely depleted roster because of the expensive core.

We have another one here... I'm sorry but you don't win the Cup by winning one series, which is what we are legit trying to do here. Stop pretending we lost in SCF game 7. We are getting out of the first round by rear-naked choke.

btw if anything your talent proved to be useless in the playoffs...

Tell me how many excuses you need to make for losing the first round, to start believing it was all bad luck and we are trying to legit win the cup ? or is there some lesser Cup for getting out of the first round we all so excited for?
