Am I the only one who feels that the latest moves plus sticking with Reimer/Scrivens (and not getting Luongo) is a sign that mgmt is okay with "tanking" this season for MacKinnon? I don't mean to criticize the moves, I'd actually stick with Scrivens/Reimer now instead of trading for Luongo and I too probably would've waived Connolly/traded Lombardi and probably cut Reilly for more jnr time even if he looked ready.

I don't know if it'll work because even though others are doubting, I think assuming a healthy and recovered Reimer, this is a better Leafs team than the past several years but we'll know based on the first few roster moves made by mgmt. They might finally be taking the right approach. I think they're in a good position, expectations aren't high especially with a shortened season so even if they miss the playoffs they might as well make the best of it and if they make the playoffs even if it's a 1st round loss then it'll still be seen as progress....almost a win win situations. Here's to hoping they don't manage to get 9th-12th.

EDIT: Btw I should clarify before someone mentions it, I mean tanking as in the GM sense of not really pushing for moves to make your team a playoff team for this season. I don't mean that they're telling the players not to try or something.

No, we are just doing whats best for the team. It's not like Lombardi and Connolly added that much to the team. And not trading for Luongo doesn't mean we are tanking. It just means the price is too high for a team that was 13th in the East last year.

This.

I wish "tanking" was one of the censored words around these parts.

Are we.....******!?

We were tanking when lazy plugs like Connolly took up roster spots.

When Burke said that Leafs players weren't going to be given a free ride and that roster spots weren't guaranteed I think it backfired on him. He signed all these cruddy guys via FA to fight for spots and they wound up being the suckiest players on the team leaving the young guys, the guys who would otherwise be putting their all into games, with the Marlies.

I don't think that's fair to say.. It's pretty evident last year Kadri and to an extent Frattin weren't ready. Forcing them to play minutes in the NHL wouldn't be fair. It worked in the way it should've and they were stop gaps.

No the players will do their best and I expect to see effort every game. This is make or break for most of them as there are only three signed beyond next year. Do we have the horses to win more than we'll lose? Nope!

Oh well, the future is looking brighter though.

I thought Kadri was ready to play a bit more tbh but Frattin's finishing just wasn't there. He had so many chances that he couldn't finish though good sign that at least he can get involved in the play.

Tbh I think Lombardi now a bit more established here would've helped and not the reverse plus I wouldn't be surprised if Connolly ends up needing a call-up however I'd assume the kids are on a much longer leash this time.

why do i get the feeling the leafs are going to do a lot better than ppl are predicting ?

Maybe it will be the only year there isn't pressure on the team as a whole. That being said I'd think there will be alot of pressure on individuals like Kadri, Bozak.

I don't think the team is tanking. They might tank, but it would be more incidental than purposeful. I think that Nonis is trying to finally discern what he has on this team. The question regarding the goaltending, for good or bad, will be answered by the end of this season. The same can be said for Tyler Bozak, Nazem Kadri, Mike Komisarek, Nikolai Kulemin, Cody Franson, and even more. The pundits and experts say the leafs will not do well this season, and they might be right. I think some players will emerge from their doldrums and others will repeat the performance of last season, while still others descend into mediocrity. The bottom line is that there are so many question marks with this team that Nonis is looking at this half season as an investigator. Come the off season, he will address what needs he feels he can accordingly.

First, you're presupposing that there will be no more moves. Second, you're assuming that they would draft first which is not at all guaranteed because of the lottery. So how can they be tanking for MacKinnon when there is no guarantee they will be in a position to draft him?

**** no

dont get me wrong
given the situation where mid season and the Leafs aren't really finding their game
the thought will cross Nonis' mind

just cause you dont over pay for Luongo
doesn't mean you're tanking...

i got belief in Nonis

Preseason, we are talking about tanking. Most fans are ok not making trades that might make us better immediately, but have a long-term cost. Most pundits rank as near the bottom of the league. Most of our own fans rank us near the bottom of the league. We are already salivating at what draft pick we might get.

Surely this means we will make the playoffs. ;)

I truely believe that we really don't want to pass up on the talent in this upcoming draft, some potential franchise players to be had.

All in all, Iv waited 3 months for hockey to start, I can wait another 2/3 for it to finish and go into the off season with.. Potential top pick, Getz/Perry free agents and to see where our head is out pertaining to our goalie situation.

also wanna add that i love the new lines and additions to the team
i think overall it can be an effective solid group

with Randy in the mist, coaching can finally be solid
not to take anything away from Wilson's success in the start of the season

and yeah Reimer is hopefully back
Kool Aid too
addition to Komorov

if the 2nd line is rejuvenated from 10-11
game on ****ers

I think the plan is to make moves that make sense rather than doing it for the sake of doing it. Nonis has been open about trading for upgrades if the opportunity presents itself but he said that he's not going to make move that help the team temporarily and then handicap the team in the future.
