I didn't say that. Just giving some context.

Sure, but there's a difference between getting outshot by 1 and getting outshot over 2 to 1.

If you keep a team at 21 shots while shooting 47 - you'll win many more than you lose.

Besides the 2nd and the last five minutes of the third the Leafs didn't outplay the Canucks.

Sure despite when the Leafs outplayed the Canucks, they didn't outplay the Canucks.

Context, again, it depends where those shots are coming from. And, yes, there is a difference.

starting to wonder if keefe's worst mistake is to not trust his core 4 to play more responsibly?

that they can hang back, prevetn all goals and snipe more than running gunningthroughout their shifts?

straw grasping really. I don't really recognize much Keefe systems at play, in off or def zones.

The undisciplined penalties were murder. The penalties - some would have been avoided with structure. Some were seriously selfish play.

I really don’t think the coach is the problem. More player buy in and more player depth are needed.

On either 32 thoughts or hockey day in Canada Elliot Freedman was commenting that the more he thought about the Nylander signing, the more he thinks it was long term.

Basically knowing this year is a write off, and Nylander will be a piece to build around as they do a mini reset in the next 2 years. And that don’t expect them to go all in for the play offs.

Elliott is just now realizing a max length deal is long term?

Haven't you heard? As of a week or so ago Martin Jones had the best sv% in the NHL. That it was a tiny sample size and he'd almost exclusively played bad teams wasn't relevant. He only passed through waivers at the start of the season due to the leafs jedi mind tricks, not because he's been terrible for years.
This happens every year with Jones - he puts up a decent stretch where he gets good results and people fall over themselves to praise him and say he's turned a corner, and he ends the season with a pitiful save percentage and despised by his teams fan base because he's so obviously not an NHL goaltender and inevitably collapses.

This is the sixth year of Martin Jones being a pitiful shell of a player. He does not belong in this league and hasn't since the twenty-teens.

Honestly, Demko hasn't been great outside of more recent stretches. I hear people giving him Vezina talk, and I'm just completely baffled by that. Up until a couple of weeks ago, he hasn't even been that much better than his backup.
He was number one in GSAA all year until a couple games ago. He's number 2 now. He had a horrible 2nd period today but made more than enough saves to take it home. Let in 2 softies and still won 6-4.

As for tonight's game, the Leafs lost to a better team, not sure if there needs to be any hand wringing or huge takeaways. Sure they've won 1 out of 6 but this is not a team they match up well against. Better goalie better D better forward depth better coached better special teams.

This thread belongs in the Leafs Forum.

Oh man - I’d say the opposite.

This thread was started by a leafs fan and has taken on a life of its own.

No longer is it for discussing if, lol, the leafs are, lol, “cup contenders” - so funny.

No, it’s become more than that - it’s a funnel for all the posters looking to dump on the leafs for whatever reason. You certainly can move this thread in the leafs forum - it would be Trojan Horse - you move it into the leafs forum and thousands of the enemy come running out.

You also can’t end it without potentially worse consequences.

It’s the same reason police leave a block or two in cities for prostitution and drug users. At least they’re contained - if they go and bust them up - they scatter throughout the city and cause more problems elsewhere.

when the leafs fall out of a playoff spot in the next week or 2, this thread may be the only thing keeping hfboards from total chaos.

Leafs fans are funny talking about deserve to win o meter vs the canucks , how many years do you guys need to realise goaltenders are also part of the team lol

Agreed

I never understood the argument of “yeh but if it wasn’t for your goalie being better or standing on his head we would have won”.

Goalies are perhaps the most critical position on a hockey team, so if a team drafts poorly or doesn’t prioritize finding a quality goalie you get what you get. It’s like saying, “yeh if it wasn’t for your centre who scores 50-60 goals you wouldn’t be as good”…….yeh no kidding. If a team spends a disproportionate amount of their cap space on too few players of course they’re likely going to be weak in other positions. Thank god for the cap system, forces good teams to think, prioritize and plan……those who don’t suffer.
