Are the NJ Devils already collapsing?

Penguins lost 7 straight and are still right there and competitive.

Devils are ridiculously younger than them as well. Let them learn how to survive rough patches and see how they respond then.

This isn’t enough of a rough patch to say that they are collapsing.

As always, the truth is somewhere in the middle. Good team with flashes of being great. They'll make the playoffs and grow a lot this year, but they aren't SC contenders by any means.
This is absolutely correct. Most NJ fans didn't see us winning the Cup this year.

The vast majority of us will be really happy with making thee playoffs. Winning 1 or 2 rounds would be wonderful but would also be a bonus. We're still the youngest team in the league.

They had the easiest schedule in the league to start, and one of the most difficult left. So probably somewhere in the middle.

Their fans were a little arrogant to start the season. They will likely be fine though and make the playoffs.
We weren't arrogant. This board is a cesspool and Devils fans had to come here to see countless threads made by fans of other teams saying the Devils stink and they aren't as good as their record blah blah blah. So then we end up coming off as arrogant trying to say our first place team in the midst of a 13 game winning streak isn't so bad.

Maybe. Maybe not. However, if there is a team that is "primed" for a collapse, its them. Unsustainable start, I doubt they finish near the top of the table when all is said and done.

Don't most teams in the East have harder schedules left because the West isn't as good and the east teams are playing each other more?

When I look at SOS remaining.

1) MTL
2) FLA
3) NJ
4) NYR
5) OTT
6) NYI
7) DET
8) CAR
9) TBL
10) BUF

Most Devils fans would have told you before the season they would be happy being in the hunt for a wild card spot. Start of the season took everyone by surprise and may have raised expectations higher than they should be. First real adversity for this group and it will be interesting to see how they respond. Schedule looks daunting heading into January but I do believe they will bounce back.

The offense is drying up slightly.

Bratt has 2 goals in 11 games.
Tatar 1 goal in 7 games.
Hischier 0 assists in 6 games.

^^^^^^^^^^
That's been the top line for a good stretch so they kind of dried up.

Sharangovich 0 goals in 7 games.
Haula 1 goal in 30 games.
Hamilton 1 goal in 11 games.
McLeod 1 goal in 12 games.

Like tonight, they had no business losing this game. Carter Hart was playing like a boss from Dark Souls and won the game for the Flyers. Devils just couldn't finish their chances. This team also has no idea how to capitalize on an odd man rush. They skate around like they are the Harlem Globetrotters and forgot how to actually score.

The good news is that they are still playing well. They outplayed Dallas and Philly and lost both games. If they keep playing like this, then this was just a bad week or two and they will be fine. Once they start getting outshot, out-chanced, and letting in terrible goals on the regular, then we can all panic.

It's a classic over correction. During the winning streak just about every thread started about the Devils was from fans of other teams. Then more fans of other teams came in to talk about how the team stinks and we all have to show up and defend them making us look cocky and arrogant. It was a chore.

Nah. Sometimes when teams start doing really well, they think 'This is easy, we don't have to try as hard' and bad habits develop. Bad habits are easier to develop than good habits. They just need time for the good habits to re-develop.

I'm curious as to how the subsequent invasions of other, unrelated threads by Devils fans making snarky comments about Gaudreau and the Jackets doing not so well enters into this narrative.

Not much different than what I posted

Eastern conf. teams have harder schedules left because they aren't playing the west as much.

That's what happens when a team is horrible for a decade. They had it built inside for so long it exploded at the first sign of some minor success.

The saying "act like you been there" need not apply. Because they haven't been there.
