Are the Jets for real or are they going to crash and burn?

Why not just enjoy it? If my Sabres win 14 out of 15 I’d be the happiest fan on earth!
Happy was an understatement, I’m still really happy but what I mean is they’ll still be a thought in the back of my head about how they’ll do in the playoffs regardless of how many games they win in the regular season.

Hellebyuck IMO plays too much, and he's on pace for 66 this year.

Maybe get him in the low 50s to try and get the best of him in the playoffs. I mean, if you're really good, then shaving 10-15 starts should not get you out of the playoff race, particularly with this start.

They are riding him like a horse year after year.
Yes i completely agree, and Eric Comrie has looked solid so there’s no reason not to. Also everyone should watch the interview with Comrie on the Jets Instagram, he seems like an awesome guy.

Probably neither? Like they're probably not going to continue to shoot 14.5% as a team or score on 42% of their PP opportunities, and Helle, as great as he is, probably won't have a save percentage of .934 across the full season. They're not going to win 94% of their games this season.

But that can be true and the Jets can still be a very good team. They can slow down without crashing and burning.

I'm not even a Leafs fan but you have to admit it's pretty funny that the Jets are 0-fer against Toronto ever since Scheif's "nothing better than beating the Leafs" comment from a few years back.

They're certainly on a heater this year though, far exceeding even the most optimistic Jets' fans expectations I'm sure. Will see how the rest of the season plays out and whether or not they can maintain this massive cushion atop the Central for the next sixty games.

Even if they don't this has been a amazing ride and this record is going to be very tough to beat.

I’m just here to enjoy the salt. It’s weird, as a Jets fans we usually just get pity.

Everyone here claiming the regular season means nothing are either bitter haters or just don’t like hockey. Why even bother watching or following? Sorry to break it to Ovi, beating Grezky’s record for goals is meaningless because it happened in the regular season, might as well retire now. LMAO!

I love it all.

I just watched the Jets for the first time this season, as they beat up the Rangers at MSG last night. They are just a complete team in every facet of the game. Their power play is lethal (fun fact, it was #1 PP (Jets) vs #1 PK (Rangers) last night), and their breakout is so clean.

This team is for real!
I think that's the key word, team. I can honestly say that every Jet is playing well right now and they are playing as a team not as individuals .

They are a great team. That super high end talent outside of goalie, is yet to prove itself though, so they need to show up in the playoffs or some other Midwest team will bury them in round one again.

No one expects the team to keep winning at this pace, but it's been fun as a fan. Hope the team can keep banking points and then be in a good playoff position near the end of the season and load manage.

It's also hilarious to see all the mental gymnastics to try to hand wave away the start, or pretend the Jets are the only team that has had recent playoff failures.

I gotta watch more Jets, because they seem to be doing this shit with a pretty special lineup.

Don’t you need a 1C? 2C? 1D? 2D?

They got Marky Vowels at 1C, definitely always considered a top center, and what’s his Namestikov at 2C. Or is that party Perfetti, the young stud no one speaks of? At 1D we have that dude from the Smiths who cries and doesn’t eat meat, he’s underrated, Morrison or something, and friggin Neal Pionk had 3 apples tonight. I don’t have a joke there, his name is crazy as is.

Point is- this is not a lineup you would think would burn villages, and it really doesn’t fit the mold of what you supposedly need outside the obviously stellar goalie. So what gives? Serious question, I assume they’re just 4 lines of speed and competence playing a good system together, but I’d like some insight. How are they this consistent with that roster, what are other teams missing?
I'll do bullet points rather than a long drawn out paragraph
- Core has been together a long time. Most are home grown and grew up in the NHL together. Together experienced lots of ups and downs.
- Team became fractured, locker room issues, inmates running the asylum so to speak. No accountability, poor leadership from Wheeler. Paul Maurice quits.
- Bowness is brought in to fix the culture and establish a much better team defensive system and more offense from the D. Wheeler has the C removed and eventually bought out. Players who don't want to be in Winnipeg are moved -Dubios return was another masterclass move by Chevy.
- Schiefele and Helly re-signed despite mainstream media claiming they want to move on and hinting at a rebuild. Lowry named C, everyone in the room now had a voice.
- Bowness continues to instill a great team defensive structure, although special teams were extremely poor. Had no answers to AVs strategic changes that were made to exploit the Jets weaknesses in their game.
- Arniel given the reigns - Team defensive structure remains the same, although allowing the Fwd's to be more aggressive. Saw the same thing in Dallas once Bowness left there, their offence sky rocketed.
- New assistant coaches brought in with a massive overhaul to our special teams. Much more aggressive, more modern, more fast puck movement rather than stagnated set plays that are easy to defend. I think this is where we're seeing the biggest improvement which is translating to more success.
- Core is older now, they are bought in and we're seeing this. I'd use the example of Ovi and the Caps figuring out that they need to buy in and play defense as well the year they won the cup.
- Chevy said in an interview the other day that they realized they needed more speed. Monahan and Toffoli really hampered that last year. Top 6 is solid, Namestikov is holding his own at 2C. Arguably the best 3rd line in the league, solid 4th line. Production up and down the line up. Helly the best goalie in the league, and the weakness of our D core is widely exagerated. One of the best #1 D man in the league in Morrissey. Pionk is having a great season. Samberg was clearly ready for Dillions spot in the top 4. Miller is showing he should have played more. And even though he's been injured, I feel a lot of people are going to find out soon enough how good Heinola really is.

The real driver behind the success is the culture Chevy & TNSE has instilled. Draft, develop, and treat people right. This is a city & team likely on most players no trade list and also just as likely not a high choice in FA. This means you have a group that wants to be together and play together, and an organization that is patient, loyal, and wants their employees to feel valued. This is a recipe for success in this market. It is also why after Paul Maurice said right after the Panthers won the cup that he wanted to see Winnipeg win and then he doubled down in later interviews and said it wasn't just good for hockey, it was good for pro sport. Why? Because the organization has fostered a culture that truly cares and gives a shit about their employees. When you get that and a great systems approach from Arniel you have what you currently have. Is it is sustainable? No, of course not. But is this team actually very, very good? There is no doubt whatsoever.
