Are the Jets for real or are they going to crash and burn?

Pretty reasonable prediction to make when their schedule looks like this going forward..

Hardly a prediction. Obviously a team isn't going to keep up a .933 winning percentage.

Only on a sports fan forum can people talk on the one hand in a most scientific way, citing all sorts of advanced hockey analytics in order to explain why things happen, and then turn around and confidently state why Winnipeg won't be successful because:
  1. They weren't successful before derp derp derp; and
  2. They're in Canada.
They very well might not be successful at the end of the season, but you do know how stupid these so-called "reasons" make you sound, right?

Yeah they've only beat teams below them in the standings so far :sarcasm:
They have only played four games against teams currently ranked in the top three of their divisions and all were played at Home. They won three of them, losing to the Leafs.
They must be the only team in the League this year that hasn't had to play three games in four nights or even a back to back.
This is the definition of a weak schedule.
Let's see how they do over their next four games.

Wow! Only a .750 win percentage against the top teams! They do stink!

Don’t worry. The media will still focus on Matthews’ boo-boo.

Calgary was near the top when we played them , Columbus had a good record at the time same with Tampa . After we F them up they go down hill . We have played 15 games so far and only 2 teams have played 16 so there goes argument .

I dont put much stock in their man handling the wings last week, but the Wings have had a pretty rough schedule to start the season and have played some very good teams. Ive watched all Wings games this season and, so far, the Jets have been the best team I've seen.

Can they keep it up? Dont know, but hope so, they're a fun team to watch and it would be nice seeing them have a great season.

They will likely come back down to earth a bit. Currently riding a 107.4 PDO.

DISCLAIMER:
Saying they will come back down to earth a bit is not saying they are a trash team and will be crap, it is simply saying the save percentage or shooting percentage or both will likely come down a bit. Saying this does not mean that all teams eventually end up at 100 PDO. Good teams shoot better and have a better save percentage and generally end the season with a PDO above 100. But they generally don't perform for a full season so high above the average. For example, the 2022-2023 Bruins who set the single season record for wins ended the season with a 103. Winnipeg is a good team and I expect they will easily make the playoffs, but their current PDO is likely unsustainable.

As a jets fan it’s nice to see but I want them to start losing a few so that they don’t win the presidents trophy. Either way I won’t be happy until they win a couple of playoff series.

Hellebyuck IMO plays too much, and he's on pace for 66 this year.

Maybe get him in the low 50s to try and get the best of him in the playoffs. I mean, if you're really good, then shaving 10-15 starts should not get you out of the playoff race, particularly with this start.

They are riding him like a horse year after year.

Winnipeg historically has been a dissapointment when it comes to playoff hockey. They are a good team with really no eyesore contracts, some good players in a contract year which is an ingredient to playoff success. Let’s just say, I’ll believe it when I see it. But this year could be their year…Winnipeg vs Florida final? Paul Maurice vs his old team, that would make for a compelling storyline

They won't "crash and burn", since they're a pretty good team, but they will certainly come back down to earth. There is no way that a team like that should be dominating to this extent.

Is it really that much? The last two generations of goaltenders (i.e. Brodeur, Hasek, Belfour, Luongo, Lundqvist) would play 70+ games without issue. Last year, he only played 60 games, which shouldn't be too much for a Vezina-winner. And it shouldn't be an excuse for back-to-back sub-890 post-seasons.
